Daniel Jeremiah Mock Draft 3.0

JB_in_DC : 4/6/2021 11:19 am
DJ posted his third Mock of the season this morning. Jeremiah is probably as connected and knowledgeable as anyone who does mocks, so always interesting to see what he's thinking teams are going to do.

Notable here is that he's got all 5 QBs going in the top ten, Smith, Waddle and Surtain falling out of the top ten, and Kwity Paye going to the Cowboys at 10. I think this is the highest I've seen Paye or EDGE, so interesting if this is driven by what he's hearing from NFL brain trusts.

Giants get their pick of the Bama threesome - something I think the fanbase and team brass would love - and select DeVonta Smith.

I think Smith checks many boxes and is both a safe and exciting pick

That said it seems the strength of the draft is WR and very good WR will be around in round 2 and maybe even round 3.

We need a front 7 defender that has some speed. Just my opinion. Unfortunately Phillips and Parsons are the best front 7 guys IMO. One has injury issues and one character concerns.

Paye doesn't seem like a scheme fit to me for NYG so even if they like him he seems more of traditional DE not an OLB/Edge guy. He seems like he would be 4/3 fit so the Cowboys make sense there.

Cowboys passing on Surtain?
GFAN52 : 4/6/2021 11:26 am : link
I don't think so. And Sewell after Slater is interesting not sure I'm buying that. I have been saying the Panthers will go OL since they got Darnold, so I agree with that part.
Not surprised about Mac Jones at all.

Seems like a tremendous fit for what Shanahan does. Trading up to 3 guarantees they get him and when you have a conviction on QB you take them.

9-5 in 2018, 3-9 in 2019, 7-2 in 2020 (10th ranked)
Another one of those Giant Catastrophe's

You know what,I'm taking Surtain. Let Judge figure it out. He can bring in another defensive consultant if he wants.
Still prefer to to trade....

Feel the Bama WR are over rated.

The best WR in draft will not be from Alabama, imo

They were in the championship game for the Big Ten, so yes. That said, Slater didn't even play.

not sure he's there but if so, NYG won't waste any time

Bold prediction considering an LSU receiver is the highest rated to begin with

That is correct. It will be Kyle Pitts from Florida.
I would love that

Honestly, I feel like the WR are the only people with value at #11 (assuming Sewei/Pitts/Chase are gone).

If you simply have to have a defensive player, then, unless it's Parsons (who is off our board, apparently), we should try like hell to get near or at the twenties.

Parsons is a conundrum: Rico says no, Go Deep seems to say ER, as opines Colin in team building for long term, and it is seductive to think Giants could round out the D with an ER and arguably a BPA. JJ's PSU connections should be in position to confirm or dismiss the off-field issues. Hugely important. Want nothing to do with Phillips even if he is BPA: you can't fix or ignore head trauma history.

What if BPA on Giants' board is Surtain and he's sitting there? Gulp, another conundrum.

WR and OL have to be addressed: supposedly deep drafts for both, fingers crossed.
Watching Smith I'm convinced he will be a star

Waddle and Chase may have the flashier skillset but Smith has outproduced every Bama receiver in the last three years. If Smith drops out of the top 10 it will be because everyone "over thought" his measurables - his on tape performances are better than any WR in several years.
Kwity Paye
RAIN : 4/6/2021 1:58 pm : link
has really grown on me. From everything i've read and seen on tape... he fits the bill for pass rush. I think if he can stand up and do some coverage things, he would fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's our edge guy, or the cowboys.

Looks good to me. Smith is the dude I want if he's there.

Chase and Pitts are both gone in this mock when #11 comes around. Outside of those two, who do you have rated higher than Smith / Waddle? Curious.

I was skeptical during the season because of these messurables. Sy thinks he can gain weight, I look at his frame and not so sure. Regardless, with the way the game is played now and his ability to not take direct hits, I fully support drafting him at 11 if Pitts isn’t there. In fact if it’s not Pitts, Smith, Chase, or Penei falls, I’m fully onboard with a trade down. Not in love with Waddle and I’d be curious what he looked like on a worse offense. Smith is getting open anywhere he plays, but Waddle was able to get favorable matchups in a stacked offense and would use his speed to capitalize.

csb : 4/6/2021 3:12 pm : link
I agree with your point - I'm less concerned about his frame as today's NFL protects WR's from any "defenseless" shot. This should allow people like Smith to avoid "dislocated sternum" type injuries like Ike Hilliard and hopefully lead to better durability
I’ll say it
UGADawgs7 : 4/7/2021 10:30 am : link
Even though it’s been said about his size. It’s very worrisome. If Waddle foot checks out, I would draft Waddle. He’s the closest to Tyreek and if Shep ends up getting another concussion(hope he does not), Waddle fills in and they just have a better Slot WR who can also play outside. Smith needs a minimum of like 20 lbs gained both upper and lower body to be around 185 at 6’1.
