Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge are prepared to go LB, CB or OL, too, until the Heisman Trophy winner falls into their laps. John Mara wants to put fans back in the stands. This pick does that.
Haven’t the Giants sold out every game for the last 150 years or so?
I hate Pat Leonard more than anyone in all of the media, and there arent many that I like.
But in this case, I think what Pat Leonard means, is that Mara wants to get Giant fans back in the seats.
Is the majority of that stadium sold out? Absolutely, but take it from someone who hasnt missed a home game since the new stadium was built. In the last 5 years i would say that the crowds are only about 50 to 75% Giant fans depending on who we are playing. And on top of that I'm getting sick and tired of watching opposing fans celebrate in the Meadowlands.
So while I think Pat Leonard is a dick, i think he means that Mara wants Giant fans getting excited to go to Giant games.

post the top 10. Site cannot be viewed from England
1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Urban Meyer took this job because he was inheriting this pick and player.
2. JETS: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
Sam Darnold’s trade to Carolina solidifies GM Joe Douglas’ plans at two.
3. San Francisco 49ers (via Dolphins): Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
I don’t buy that Kyle Shanahan will retain Jimmy Garoppolo. He traded up to draft a reigning national champion that he believes can start this year.
4. TRADE: Denver Broncos (from Falcons): Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
New GM George Paton charges up the board from No. 9 for a dynamic young talent that Denver hopes can be their answer to the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.
5. Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
QB Joe Burrow gets his wish and reunites with his explosive former Tigers wideout.
6. Miami Dolphins (via Eagles): Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
GM Chris Grier traded back into the Top 10 for a playmaker like this.
7. Detroit Lions: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
Sewell is the best offensive lineman in this draft and will bite off knee caps if that’s what new coach Dan Campbell asks.
8. Carolina Panthers: Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
The trade for Sam Darnold rules out a QB. Matt Rhule gets a well-rounded stud at a premier position of need.
9. TRADE: Atlanta Falcons (from Broncos): Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
New GM Terry Fontenot trades back from No. 4 to acquire more assets to rebuild a barren roster. His reward is the most complete player remaining on the board.
10. Dallas Cowboys: Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Dallas gets important insurance and versatility up front to reinforce Dak Prescott’s protection.
Surtain to me is a prototype cover 3 corner who, to me, didn’t prove much in college as far as man v man coverage. Horn was unreal and everyone is sleeping on him.
Flipped the TV last night and stumbled into ESPN Mock run by Tannebaum. If you think this is bad his was off the wall. He had Carolina drafting a QB at 8 even after trading 3 picks for Darnold. Also had Giants passing on Pitts to take Ojulari at 11. Pitts went to Eagles at 12.

No wonder this guy is out of work.
Not just that Carolina traded picks (a 2 and a 4 next year isn't crazy expensive, IMO) but that Carolina agreed to Darnold's 5th year option (which is fully guaranteed, BTW).
They won't draft a QB if they are on the hook for $19 million for Darnold next year.
...Then again, I can think of at least one team that drafted a QB in the top 10 while still paying a veteran QB over $20 million...

Normally, I’d feel the same way about that $20 million. But I was ok with that being “sbsorbed” by Mara as a huge thank you for two unbelievable playoffs and SB wins..That’s how I saw it
Which position do you think is more likely to get passed over at the top of the draft because teams think they can get a guy at that position later in the draft?
I've been saying this to all my friends, i think they could have stayed where they are and he would have fallen to them
This was told by nostradamus in the Daniel Jones pick, too. Fact is, you have a QB you want, you make sure you grab him before no one else does. I don't put it past the Falcons, Broncos or Panthers nabbing him. I bet CAR don't trade for Darnold til they saw SF traded up.
RE: RE: SF drafting Jones at 3 would be an epic mistake.

Nonsense. Carolina is not interested in Mac Jones. Their beat reporters have said this. The rumor is that Carolina only likes Lawrence and Wilson from this draft.
LOL. Leonard is such an asshole.
Sorry, but you’re so right, he was the best, imv

agreed
The seats may be sold, but people certainly aren't packing into Metlife in december to watch trash football.

Watching the regular season, I thought no way in hell the Giants would have any shot at landing this guy.
If they get him at 11......wow. Extremely fortunate.

None of us really know, and honestly I'm tired of talking about it. It's pointless.

For sure... sign me up, I'll be doing backflips if this happens

The timing of the trade is purely coincidental.
while they sell out, if fans stay home they don't spend $$ on concessions
What an idiot. Its like as if he never heard of COVID19 and thinks our draft pick has anything to do with putting fans back in the stands...
You can't see Pat Leonard's crap in England?
I need to move to England.
