Hey gang!
4pm game today, don't forget.
Mets Lineup"
Nimmo CF
Lindor SS
Conforto RF
Alonso 1B
Smith LF
Villar 2B
McCann C
Guillorme 3B
Peterson P
McNeil gets a rest -- guess it's a combo of his tough early start (though he's hit balls hard) and also tries to give the sinkerballer his best IF defense.
Mets face Phillies Ace, Aaron NOLa (6.2 IP 2 ER 6 K 6 H 1 BB) in first start
Phils go with:
McCutcheon LF
Hoskins 1B
Harper LF
Realmuto C
Bohm 3B
Gregorius SS
Segura 2B
Hasley CF
Nola P
Didn't like Rojas' in-game work last year but was all about giving him a mulligan due to odd circumstances all around.
But this team is too good to have a crummy manager.
If they are underperforming in June, I hope they ax him and bring in a veteran as a stop gap. I know it's early for this talk, but I'm just not a fan of anything he's done so far for this team.
Yeah,
I really don't think this guy has anywhere near the credibility to be pulling this stuff. Hope he's toast if the team underperforms.
Don't like the manager at all.
I think it is a trend throughout MLB. Mookie Betts has benched twice in the first 7 games for the Dodgers.
-Rosenthal might be done for the year. Big loss for the A's.
Rojas needs to stop overthinking these lineups, there is a core 8 that should be starting 90% of the games
Hopefully Guillorme can continue what he did last year, but I hate seeing Villar in there. I suspect you're right about infield defense being the reason for the Villar + Guillorme infield.
Phillies have their normal starters in, their A+ lineup.
Guillorme is 1-4 against Nola career. Villar carries a .214 BA against him with 3 hits in 14 ABs, with 3 BBs and a .333 OBP.
McNeil is 6-22 (.273 BA) with a .385 OBP and .839 OPS and a HR against Nola in his career.
In his career Nola is 8-2 vs the Mets in 16 starts, with Mets holding a .653 OPS against him.
Hopefully the bats can get to Nola early.

Notes via Luis Rojas:
* Davis' left hand is "swelled up." He is due for more X-rays this afternoon.
* McNeil is fine. The Mets wanted to get Villar a start.
* Rojas "can't wait" to play a home game in front of fans for the first time in a year and a half tomorrow.
I hate it, though.
I hate it, though.
Well yeah, we all hope it works out, doesn't make the thought process any better.
I think they wanted to force the Phillies to face a lefty rather than three straight righties.
Nido is a traditional backup C and Almora will probably be used mostly for late inning defense.... But the other three are going to get forced into games..
No timetable. He's getting additional x-rays but hasn't because of the swelling.

I know x rays were negative but did they say how long Davis is expected to be out, if at all?

Thanks!

Also wondering why Walker isn't getting the start today. If anyone knows, can you fill me in?
I think they wanted to force the Phillies to face a lefty rather than three straight righties.
The decision was made prior to the season starting and having the first 3 games postponed. They wanted to split up the two lefties (Peterson and Lucchesi) because they felt they were too similar and it decreases the chances that both will appear in the same series.
You are a jinx

No-hitter watch going on in Chicago. Woodruff 6 no-hit innings. Only 56 pitches so he looks like he has it in the tank to go all 9.

haha. Huge on Happ this year, predicting a big-time season.
Team has to hang in there until Carrasco and Noah come back. Today’s game is a schedule loss (our AAAA guy vs a legit ace) but losing a “schedule win” (DeGrom vs their AAAA guy) is what we can’t afford.
I think Walker fares better (probably), but with a leaky bullpen and minus 40% of the starting rotation Mets have to hope to stay in contention until Carrasco, Syndergaard and Lugo return.
And then hope all 3 are healthy and their usual selves.
Some people underestimate that.

Peterson has nine swinging strikes on that slider through two innings -- more than he had in all but one start last season. The fastball command has been the issue this afternoon.
At least they got Nola’s pitch count up.
Agreed, three games in and I have no confidence in the manager.
Maybe would've been nice to have McNeil in those spots, ya think?
Sorry but this guy isn’t the guy.
From Baron Twitter.
Michael Conforto is having a real pisser of a series. He has left 8 runners on-base himself today for a total of 13 in this series. #Mets
Pitched a 1-hitter though.

Not panicking yet but what's the point of putting together a juggernaut lineup if you're not going to put them all together in the lineup?
And you're right, it's the first 3 games, get your A+ lineup out there.
Plenty of time for those to change course but once again you don’t usually see all of your concerns this early and so thoroughly.
Guys are clearly rusty after a 10 day layoff. Ive seen plenty of good signs. The lineup is perking up. Villar, Pillar, and LG have all looked pretty good off the bench. deGrom and Stroman pitched like 1 and 2 starters. Peterson got roughed up in the first but showed some resiliency bouncing back until the 5th. Luchessi looked good in relief.
Not a great series but its going to take weeks before things start balancing out and we get a real feel for this team.
I also feel the pen will get shuffled over a few times. Hunter, Vizcaino, and Drew Smith could all find themselves up soon and of course Lugo its returning as well. We haven't even seen Diaz yet....

Normally I'd agree, but the manager is acting like it's the dead of august and we are on a 9 game road trip on the west coast

What is an appropriate reaction that wouldn't be overreacting?
Also, there is no "we" people act however they want and IDGAF what you think is an appropriate reaction.

Losing is fine
Losing because you rested a starter, one of your best hitters, in game 3 of the year for no apparent reason, is allowed to be questioned.
he's also batting Conforto in the middle of the lineup and he's appeared to be pretty ice cold when he's got better alternatives (McNeil is both the better hitter historically and making better contact...when given the chance to play).
he's overmanaging and needs to keep things simple. team's play better when the manager is doing what's right and equitable (as opposed to rewarding players with unearned playing time).
I am also a Sandy fan, and some criticism is due his way for the BP and defense. Also possibly the coaching staff if things don't improve. Ron Darling called out the Realmuto first pitch homer off Barnes yesterday that essentially ended the game. You can't have a coaching staff getting outclassed by an announcer and expect it to not happen with the team in the other dugout.
