NFT: Old(er) TV shows, you watching any that you never watched?

Jim in Forest Hills : 4/8/2021 12:13 pm
I just started watching Columbo, I'm pretty hooked so far, I've started recording them. The 70's were so different than today its fun to look through that lens. The show starts off with the crime and you watch Columbo piece it together. The show is 1.5 to 2 hrs long! Columbo is on Sundays on ME TV. If you are a fan of the show, holler at me!

ANy other older shows you have started watching or would recommend? Enjoy all types of programming.

Got me hooked on Combat! A couple years ago.
My dad loved that show.

A bunch of hippie kids solving crimes from the 1960's. I don't know if you can find it.
Columbo is the shit
UConn4523 : 4/8/2021 12:20 pm : link
I have my DVR asset for it. If you haven’t seen it yet be on the look out for the episode “Troubled Waters”. There’s a murder on a cruise ship during Columbos vacation. It’s my favorite episode.
Colombo is really good

I still enjoy the old reruns when I come across them.
I take in Taxi reruns

Every chance I get. But I did watch them as a kid...
I probably saw a couple of seasons

as a kid, but I'm watching the Burns and Allen Show now. Still great. We had named our last dog Gracie
I was surprised how much I liked Combat
Sneakers O'toole : 4/8/2021 12:23 pm : link
I thought it would be hokey. It's good.
In the mornings...

I'm watching Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C and Hogan's Heroes. VERY hokey stuff, but mindless and funny.

Also watching Three Stooges. Some of their stuff is SO inappropriate by today's standards, but hilarious.

Binged a couple of years ago on Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Loved it. Darren McGavin was great.

Love that show... McGavin is fantastic in his role.
Speaking of that time period

The Incredible Hulk and Three's Company were great.
I'm not watching it

But I've just been impressed by "The Carol Burnett Show" whenever I watch a skit or two. It's definitely a dated show considering it's from the 70s, I wouldn't call it overly funny by today's standards. But you can see why people loved it back in the day and why it's considered one of the best sketch shows ever.

I went off the grid. I only subscribe to Netflix but have a stick with Roku and Roku has it. I don't think it is a show you can power watch. I'll get through the 1st season, take a break for awhile and then move on to the next.
Off topic and thanks for these recs..

Just saw Vince Vaughn on an old episode of 21 Jump Street! I loved 21 Jump st when I was a kid but man it's terrible. Terrible acting, plot, all of it.

Also, just found out that DeNiro was supposed to be Josh in "Big" instead of Tom Hanks. What does that movie look like..
A Little Bit older

It was so good when it aired back in the day! So true too, McGavin was such an underrated actor and his role in the Night Stalker was so enjoyable. Really brings back memories.
Night stalker always great

So few episodes though
“ horror in the heights is great”
Not old shows but shows that were popular that I didn’t watch
The Americans Enjoyed it a lot
Finally started mad men. Thru series 1, slow but I enjoy it. Wife literally can’t watch because they are way to condescending to females. She isn’t a snowflake at all but after watching it I get her point.
But I am sure the show will evolve in that respect as it goes thru the 1960s
Remember Colombo, gonna look for it again

Been watching seasons 3 and 4 recently and really enjoying.
I often listen to Classic Radio...
BamaBlue : 4/8/2021 12:45 pm : link
Sirius-XM has a classic radio channel (148). It's amazing how clever and funny the stuff from the golden age of radio is. Shows like Johnny Dollar, Fort Laramie, Gunsmoke, Jack Benny, Fibber McGee and Molly, the Whisperer, Suspense, etc. are great.

Ron from Ninerland : 4/8/2021 12:48 pm : link
Its one of the few shows from that era that I've always enjoyed watching long after it was syndicated. I've started watching it again as a result of the Wandavision effect.

In some ways it was ahead of its time. In the first seven episodes of Season 1 from Nineteen Sixty whatever they've already dealt with sexual harassment and child abuse.
I really like Colombo, a feed back I ordered the box set

A couple of shows I have binged rewatched with my kids and we all enjoyed was Monk, and Burn Notice.

But I still like all the old classics, especially westerns like Bonaza, Maverick, etc
Not exactly old,but am up to Season 6 of Arrow
TheMick7 : 4/8/2021 1:46 pm : link
Finished The Flash & moved on to Arrow!
Columbia is great.
oghwga : 4/8/2021 4:40 pm : link
Not as much a fan of the later seasons but the first few were classic. HBO Max has The Larry Sanders Show which is still great.

M*A*S*H is still fun and the old Carson shows are on some oldies channel.

Fun to rewatch what was once must see viewing.

for whatever reason I missed it when it was on prime time.

Arthur Spooner >>>> Frank Costanza. Stiller is hilarious in that role - similar to a Frank Costanza role, but much more funny.

show is actually pretty funny

When I was younger I liked Taxi simply because my cousin (really my grandmother's cousin) is Judd Hirsch. I never met him, but my mother did. I only met his parents several times. But, as I got older and understood the episodes, I really loved it. I still think Jim is the best character in TV history.
Recently watched two seasons of
