50 is way too young to go. Condolences to his family. I for one will be listening to the classic “It’s Dark and He’ll is Hott” this weekend in commemoration.
X gon' give it to ya (what?)
Fuck waiting for you to get it on your own, X gon' deliver to ya (uh)
Knock knock, open up the door, it's real
With the non-stop, pop-pop of stainless steel
One of the last legit rappers before the industry turned into the auto-tuned clown show it has been the last decade or so.
You can’t even compare today’s rappers to DMX, Nas, JayZ, 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Notorious BIG, Ice Cube, early Eminem.
A little off topic, but if you want that late 90s-early 00s feel, try Benny the Butcher and the Griselda rappers; Run the Jewelz arguably has a somewhat old school feel; and Busta put out a good album last year.

But again, RIP X.
Thanks Mike, I’ll have to check out those recommendations. I can’t believe I forgot to put Wu-Tang in my last post lol. Can’t forget the Wu.
may you continue to swim in women in the afterlife.
DMX is the very first rapper I was introduced to that suck with me. Still remember my best friend at the time lending me his head phones on a field trip during the bus ride so I can hear It’s Dark and He’ll is Hot. Believe I was 12 or so.

Me too. Really didn’t like rap at all until I was introduced to him at Bobby Hurleys now defunct basketball camp in upstate NY. Quite the experience with the open bunking and It’s dark and hell is hot blasting 24/7.
Sidenote - what a shithole camp that was and pretty much just an excuse to get his kids enrolling into St Pats to play over the summer. Last year I was there there was a full riot between the St Pats kids and the counselors who came from the Bing last year I was there. Started with a St Pats kid shoving a pool cue up some counselers ass playing pool that degenerated into a full scale riot and stolen golf carts galore. Fun times, was like a knockoff mad max that day.
Funny how music stirs up memories , haven’t thought about that in years.
Is actually underrated in my opinion. I think it's better than some Nas stuff that routinely gets higher acclaim. Right up there with Ready To Die for me in terms of essential 90s hip hop albums.
Loved his lyrics and aggressive approach in the late 90s, early 00s. I was a big fan and remember my friends and I blasting his naughty music in 1998, it had to be.
Brings back memories. I couldn't wait for ... And Then There Was X at the end of 1999 to come out. I played the fuck out of that CD on the bus rides to and from school.
Then he released The Great Depression and lol that CD was... depressingly bad. 2003 or so he did the year of the Dog album? Pretty good. Once 2006 or so rolled around, I stopped giving a shit about rap.
The music just became way too redunant. Like everything, it had its time and place.

Illmatic and It Was Written are better albums than It’s Dark and Hell is Hot IMO. But It’s Dark is better than I Am and infinitely better than Nastradamus. But I am biased, as Nas is my favorite rapper ever.
Maybe it's just because of overexposure from every single one of my friends (and everyone else in high school) being obsessed with Biggie but eh, I just never got into him.
Same with Sublime and Nirvana. I thought they were OK. If I never heard a Sublime song again ever in my life, I wouldn't be sad about it.
I guess being dead really does make you cooler, lol.

Same here and I think I Am is underrated. “Nas is Like” is one of the best rap songs of all time, IMO.
For all the talk of "authenticity" in hip-hop, he was one where there was never any doubt.

I just read that. Awful. I was a huge fan of his back in the day. This is a sad one.
RIP
