NFT: Car Alarm going off randomly?

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 4/10/2021 10:39 pm
So this is a new one - I made a few short car trips today, I have a 2018 Acura RDX. After the last short trip I locked the car and 5-10 minutes later the alarm sounds. It's not the panic button. Go in the car, start it, shut it, alarm is finished. Another 10-15 minutes later the alarm sounds again.

I lock the car and don't arm the alarm, but the running lights go on 20 min later. This happens a couple of times even after opening the hood/tailgate and closing it. I do some searching and am hearing it could be the hood latch sensor, door sensor or a low battery. Acura assistance was not helpful, basically saying drive the car it may reset.

I've turned off the auto lights but will be checking tonight to see if the interior lights are on. Anyone have experience with this before?
Something similar happened to me

I had an old Toyota with an after-market automatic car starter. Something got jacked up with the wiring when they installed it...

My alarm started going off randomly after the battery died and I had to jump it. Afterward, it would go off while I was parked, driving down the highway, etc. I sold the car not long after but if I recall correctly, I resolved the problem by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. May not be a similar situation but maybe this will help.. Best of luck to you, it's annoying as hell I know
In addition to what

water_boy said, check your battery terminals. These modern computer controlled cars are very susceptible to voltage fluctuations. Look for corrosion on the terminals and see if they are tight to the posts.

Good Luck. Electrical problems are annoying.
A few things to check before going to the dealership

Key remote battery as well the main battery sometimes even if the vehicle doesn’t recognize the low power it can send the system into a haywire.

Disconnect the main battery to reset the system you may lose presets on the radio but it will help the system reboot itself.

And look to see if there is a recall on the issue that you may not have been advised on.

Good luck technology can be a pain in the ass sometimes.
Problem

I had this problem with my 2006 Civic that took me years to figure out.

The alarm kept going off randomly, and we took it to the dealer, they replaced all the sensors on the doors. I got so desperate that I even pulled the fuse to the horn so it wouldn't wake the neighborhood up at 3am. That blew up in my face when later that week, my battery was dead cause I hadn't realized that the headlights also went off with the alarm.

It ended up being the hood latch sensor. I unplugged it and boom, problem solved. It took the realization that the alarm got worse when the temperatures would have wild swings, to finally find the right area of the internet to search.

Good luck.

Thanks, this is what I'm hearing is the most common cause of the problem.
Thanks to all, a couple common things have come up

I do think my wife's keyfob is dead, which may be causing issues. But overall this seems to be a common issue with Hondas/Acuras related to the hood latch sensor getting all crudded up & temperature changes. I will call the dealer (car is still under warranty) and see what happens.
