at a Giants bar in DC for this game. The place exploded after the kick with everyone running out into the street screaming and shouting. Everyone outside must have wondered what the hell was going on.
I jumped so high when the kick went through that I hit my head on a low-hanging light fixture and cut myself! Ha.
For a realistic shot at a field goal. Nowadays, get inside the 45. The NFL has really changed. Also, Parcells running off the field and leaving the Cardinals coach hanging? Not good.
Thing. Commentary on the games was so much better back then. Two people just talking about the game and exactly whats going on, none of this stand up comedy crap or blowhard ex players with obvious rooting bias.
with my family from visiting family in NJ and we were listening to this on the radio and my dad went haywire when the kick was good and my mom was getting mad that he was so excited and stirring up my brother and I. It was a loud car ride back lol. Ah memories.
I remember doing the time calculations in my mind at about where you started the video, thinking that is was doable. Maybe even feeling some misplaced confidence.
I agree with the criticism of Parcells for running off the field. Did he later stop to shake hands with Joe Bugle?

I was about the same age. We were with a church group picking apples & I was pissed to miss the game. We'd just gotten back to the church when someone told us the Giants had one and all the kids went nuts. Great times!!
BTW everyone should take note of our o-line play during that clip. Pretty damned different then recent memories.
That's Jumbo. He didn't play in the game, he was out with a broken leg. Eric Moore started at LT and nearly got Simms killed when he was high-lowed on a hit in the 1st half which knocked him out and brought in Hoss.
That tackle by Guyton on that QB misdirection on third down was huge. So many of the Giants took the bait on the fake and it looked like Rosenbach had a lot of real estate to run into.
That was awesome! Thanks for posting. Matt Bahr was huge for the Giants that year! This game shows how important a solid Vet back up QB could be. Hoss was all that, although a few of those throws on the last drive were an adventure.
I loved that team. I was in college at the time and we all thought we were going to get drafted to fight in the gulf war. Jeff Hostetler doesn't get enough credit for what he accomplished that season. Nothing made me happier than seeing sulky Tuna that happy running off the field. No bullshit icing the kicker time outs to worry about back then either.
Compared to what we've had here over the years Eric Moore looked good at LT. He was a rare athlete and I can see why Young chose him over Michael Irvin & Keith Jackson considering that those two were known to be big assholes. Unfortunately Moore was quite a big asshole himself. But the line was well coached and played as a unit. The help in pass protection by Kratch & Oates with his quickness was picture perfect.
The late Stacy Robinson was given every opportunity in the world by Bill Parcells. We would read int eh papers every training camp of how Robinson was just devastating to the corners because he would flash moves off the line of scrimmage that left them in the dust. He had a sturdy frame and he could fly. We drafted him in the 2nd round for good reason. Unfortunately he never panned out and probably had as many dropped passes as he did catches when all was said and done.
When that defense wanted to shut someone down and get the ball back they imposed their will the greater percentage of the time.
Stacy Robinson was just like Evan Engram, except with Engram the bust is a mid level first round pick instead of a 2nd. Both guys have more memorable drops than they do memorable catches.
I hope EE turns it around but Robinson never did. That was his 6th year in the league we just watched and also like EE he missed a lot of time with various nagging injuries. Players like this usually never turn it around. Best to get what we can get and move on.
was such a tough SOB. Thanks Eric for sharing this. Good stuff.
Yeah, that was great, thanks for posting it Eric. Agree about Hoss - been watching the Giants for something like 60 years now and I don't remember another player like him - a good all-around football player who could play QB. He played special teams well and played WR in a pinch.
and a great memory to see Stephen Baker the Touchdown Maker

Looks like Jumbo Elliott.
Man, Riesenberg, Brian Williams, William Roberts, Bob Kratch...we took so much for granted in those days...a functional and sometimes dominant OL

Michael Irvin and Thurmon Thomas were there for the taking... I know hindsight and all but wow.
Other then Moore and Elliot, that draft was also an utter disaster!

Sheldon White was horrible at CB but at least we got QB-Mike Perez
