1. In the past 6 years, Clemson has made it to the Final Four in every year- and actually winning the National Championship in both 2016 and 2018. That's a pretty amazing stat.
Yet when it comes to the 2021 draft, the Tigers have another and far less stunning statistic-not a single player on the defensive side of the ball will be drafted this year.
2. As Giants fans, we are getting more and more clues as to what Judge/Graham want in their Defense. The most recent clue-the Giants interviewed with Auburn safety/hybrid Jamien Sherwood.
Sherwood has played for the Tigers since his freshman year, but had his best season in 2020, with 75 tackles, a sack, 3 tackles for losses, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 pass deflections. What's interesting about Sherwood is his size-6' 1 3/4" and 216 pounds and with 34 inch arms from his Pro Day measurements. Auburn used Sherwood in multiple positions last year and his versatility has apparently caught the Giants eye. Sherwood is a likely Day Three pick.
3. The Giants have also interviewed Arizona State WR Frank Darby. Darby is a local kid, playing for Lincoln in Jersey City. Darby best season was in 2018, as he shared the field with top receivers N’Keal Harry and Brandon Aiyuk. Darby's 2020 season didn't match up with his success in '18 or '19 and his star has fallen somewhat. Darby is another Day Three prospect.
Antonio Pierce is at Ariz State so another good connection.
Thanks for the nuggets
