While Julian Edelman showed up on the NFL transaction wire today as having his contract terminated by the Patriots, the expectation is that it is a technicality as part of a retirement, per
@MikeReiss

If Edelman does in fact want to play in 2021 (and can get healthy) gotta wonder if Judge/@Giants could be in the mix for him. Odds are TB though right?

Why? I want that guy nowhere this team. He can go fondle women elsewhere.
I might be wrong, but is Edelman the one who, in BB's Football Life, replaced Welker as a PR in a preseason game & prompted BB to ask Welker if he knew who was Wally Pipp was? Welker said something to the effect of 'He can have it', referring to the PR job & BB sarcastically responded 'Way to compete.' Haha. Classic BB.
I’m of the opinion that what the patriots accomplished was so unprecedented and unusual that you almost have to put in players other than Brady and Gronk (on offense). Edelman is a 3 time champion and SB MVP and is 2nd all time in playoff receiving yards. He has over 600 regular season catches as well. And however you want to quantify “big plays” he has them in spades.
There’s no “ah ha” stat I can point to and I wouldn’t die on this hill. I just think we should consider abnormal careers for the HoF, strictly going by compiles numbers only holds so much weight especially with all the big rule changes the last decade.
1) No way the Giants should even consider it. What they don't need is another small, slot receiver, especially not one with a questionable knee.
2) Sorry. He had a nice career, but he is not a HOF by any measure.
I'm not saying I buy the pitch, but JE's post-season production is very strong when blended with his regular season production.
The ultimate problem is he didn't score a lot of TDs. But he always seemed to make key catches to keep drives alive.
No doubt. He was a very good player who came up big in big games. If he were a couple of years younger and/or had no knee concerns, I'd say jump at him. But, then again, he probably wouldn't be available.

Wholly unlikable player.
Get not wanting him for Giants now, but calling him an "unlikable player"?
3 time Super Bowl winner and Super Bowl MVP.
He was as clutch a receiver as they come.
Yeah, I'm sure Brady hated him.
RE: He's proof that a receiver doesn't have to be big or fast to be
or fast he is. He could catch the ball and move the chains. The guy would be an asset to any team when healthy. I don't understand how people can look at physical traits instead of looking at production.
and made Pro Bowls and All-Pro teams, he's definitely more HOF worthy than Edelman.
But that being said, I always felt like Edelman was actually a better player than Welker because he had an element of toughness to his game that Welker didn't imo. He also played at a much higher level in the playoffs, his playoff numbers are legitimately dominant.
I just found this on Twitter and thought some might enjoy it.
he was an okay player. He wasn't close to Welker though. Edelman put up pedestrian numbers even talent around him was lacking and he was the primary target. The fact that he dropped so many passes aided in that. His hands were an issue his whole career. I will say he did shine in the playoffs at least for 2 years, but HoF? no way imo

He was a pain in the @$$ to play against...always the best compliment opposing teams' fans can play to a player.

Brady of course was a big part of their success, but Welker, then Edelman. Talk about production

Think of all the good ones the Giants have had over the years...I believe only Toomer made it to that age.

Of course, but he was in the conversation for top slot WR for at least years running.
especially for a college QB from Kent State taken in the 7th round. Talk about value in a late pick.

Wholly unlikable player.
I made my case for him last year. I think he gets in.

Schefter says he's a HOF. Not sure about that...

Tough call. I think Welker is more deserving, imv, unless both eventually make it

Edelman was the classic overachiever!
Bruschi was like that on the defensive side of the ball.

@Edelman11
All I needed was an opportunity. Thanks for everything coach.
Happy Birthday BB.
