Best lineup
JB_in_DC : 4/13/2021 3:11 pm : link
of the season so far
yeah, this is the best lineup so far
KDavies : 4/13/2021 3:35 pm : link
don't know why it took Rojas so long for what fans have been clamoring for for a while. Conforto is streaky. He's cold now. Move him down. If he gets hot, you can always move him back.

The Marlins game Saturday it killed them. 1st and 3rd in the first inning. Lindor CS, Conforto K.
..
Named Later : 4/13/2021 3:46 pm : link
That was easy to figure out. It only took him 2 weeks into April, plus a full Spring Training and last year's 60 game sprint.
hmm seems like hitting Dom Smith 3rd was a good idea

news just traded for Nimmo because I think he scores 100 runs, bad news... not in my lineup. Dom Smith needs to play every day. Pillar lol.

As good as Smith has been, if you are facing Kershaw or another elite lefty you might want to bench one of our OF. Also Pillar is useful I guess if we are playing in an AL ballpark and then you can DH Smith or have Smith play 1B so Alonso can DH

Sure. But how many "elite" lefties are there? Is Corbin "elite" Not as if there are many starts against such pitchers.
Dom
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:39 pm : link
is also 2/3 with 2 doubles vs. Corbin
Would
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:46 pm : link
be nice to see them score some more runs. Chase Anderson is not good. Drop a 6-7 spot on these guys.
Walker's pitch count a little high from the strikeouts
Eric on Li : 4/13/2021 4:47 pm : link
but hard to not be excited about how his stuff looks. For a guy making $7.7m he could turn out to be a steal. Stroman makes more than 2x that and so far he looks like the guy with better stuff.

As I said look at Pillar's numbers versus, say, Kershaw and Snell. In a key situation out of the bullpen against someone like Josh Hader or Will Smith I could see it too.
McCann
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:48 pm : link
has been cold to open the season. .176/.263/.176, it's been a whopping 5 games but I have far more concern with him being a poor offensive player than Conforto looking like this all year. Would love for McCann to be the real deal.
How
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:49 pm : link
many starts will the Mets see a Snell or Kershaw? You're talking about extreme outlier situations here. I don't see a single "elite" lefty in the entire division. Rogers looked absurd but that was one start.

his statcast numbers have been ok - 90 percentile hard hit rate / 66 percentile exit velocity - hopefully just bad luck like mcneil.

point is, it's idiotic to sit Dominic Smith against the Matt Moore's of the world because he's lefty. He handles lefties quite well.
Lowrie
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:56 pm : link
1-1 with a walk. Amazing Fred/Jeff/Brodie era wouldn't allow him to get the necessary surgery. Looks like a whole new player for Oakland.

That I agree with. Smith should be starting against 95%+ of the lefties in the league. Pillar is for the handful of starts against the others or you need the bat in a PH role
Guillorme
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 4:58 pm : link
on base again. 6 times on base in limited PT.
good AB by Nimmo but that's the hole in his game that needs work
Eric on Li : 4/13/2021 4:59 pm : link
he swung at a good 2-1 pitch and it was a good 3-2 pitch, but if he can figure out how to waste that pitch and get himself a pitch to drive his game can go up another level. If he can just get his whiffs down a little bit it would make a big difference.

I have zero problem with "Pillar MASHES this lefty, look at the numbers". I have a problem with "this guy is a lefty, time to get Pillar in there". That's what opening day was.

I think you're expecting too much out of Nimmo. His K% was sub 20% last season and has been again so far this year. Pretty rough to both take tons of pitches and strike out less than he does. Only 2 regulars on the team struck out at a lower % than Nimmo last year, McNeil and Cano.

he is just a solid player who won't hurt you too bad with the bat and can play D. If he played every day 2b somewhere I don't think he'd be too far off Wong (except homers).

7 k's through 3. They need to score some runs, the pen is going to come into play... and the pen is not great despite what fangraphs wanted to say. #2 pen in baseball? Uh okay. It will be better when Lugo returns but that looks to be at least 3-4 weeks out.

Maybe. Also im not really expecting it, just think that's an area where he can improve. I think as he gets later into at bats he tries to keep his approach the same as earlier in counts when he should trying to play more of a contact game especially in a situation like that with 2 outs and a hit is a run (and a walk isn't).

If you can get 6 innings from your SP in Game 1 of a DH that sets you up nicely for Game 2 because you only then need 5 innings for it to be similar to getting 6 innings from your SP in a regular game.

If DH ends up happening next year and a spot opens for McNeil in the OF I'd love to see him get a shot playing next to Lindor. That defense up the middle would be fun.

totally looked like Guillorme knocked him off the bag but on replay doesn't seem like anything he could have done differently, Quinn initiated the contact and looked to moving away from the bag on his own.

Video of the play. I assume they said he was off the bag and then tackled but I don't know. I don't have the audio.

Walker
DanMetroMan : 4/13/2021 5:56 pm : link
looked pretty good but ran out of gas. West's strike zone was inconsistent but 80 pitches 43 strikes some of that is on Walker. 2nd start of the year, hard to complain (I'll hold that for the offense and likely the bullpen shortly).
he definitely took guillorme's feet out (unintentionally)
Eric on Li : 4/13/2021 5:56 pm : link
but then continued off the bag with his own momentum even though there was contact. Just a flukey play where I think he just figured with Guillorme falling the way he did there was no way he had caught the ball.
