Who are we taking at 11 (let’s assume we stay at 11)?

eric2425ny : 4/13/2021 10:03 pm
We’re just over two weeks away from the draft, we’ve seen countless mocks from experts and BBI members (including myself).

Two questions. Who do you want the Giants to take and who do you think they will take?

Who do I want? Smith/Waddle
Who will they take?: Slater
Who do I want?
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 4/13/2021 10:07 pm : link
Penei Sewell or Kyle Pitts.

Who will they takes? Jaylen Waddle
I’ll try
Saos1n : 4/13/2021 10:12 pm : link
Who I want at 11
Waddle
Parsons

Who they take
Ojulari
I guess, I made my bed with the best defender in draft
George from PA : 4/13/2021 10:17 pm : link
Micah Parsons
But a trade down....is still preferred

Ha ha, most likely.
Sewell, Parsons
Chip : 4/13/2021 10:28 pm : link
Smith Slater. I would be happy with any of them but would rate them in that order. Its to early at 11 to pick little people.
Got to be one of the Bama WRs
BillT : 4/13/2021 10:33 pm : link
Don’t see the edge guys as good values at 11. Don’t see a OL at 11 with our needs and the value that will still be there in the 2nd. CB makes no sense at all.
I think one of these 4 players
Rjanyg : 4/13/2021 10:39 pm : link
Smith, Parsons, Paye or Ojulari. I like all 4 but prefer Parsons.
I’ll Play
Trainmaster : 4/13/2021 11:11 pm : link
Who I want to be available, but likely won’t be: Sewell

Who I want to be available, and likely will be: Surtain

Who I think will be available and who the Giants will take: Waddle

This is the Giants right?
Bill L : 4/13/2021 11:25 pm : link
So I want to be available: Smith, Waddle, Parson. Who will be available: None of those. Then there is Ojulari. What they’ll do...not trade down and overdraft him at 11.

We lead the league in dashed hopes.

giantstock : 4/14/2021 12:54 am : link

Who do I want them to take - but won't be available?: Sewell, Pitts

Who do I want them to take that might be available but Giants will in no way take?: Slater

Who do I think they will take? Kwity Paye.

Who do I think Giants love that is probably higher on their board than Paye - that might be available that I want Giants to take rather than Paye? Smith.

I wouldn't be so certain none of those 3 will be available. I really feel that 5 QBs are going off the board in the top 10 (at least 4). I also think Chase is most likely the 1st WR off the board. Pitts, Sewell, Surtain I think also aren't getting out of the top 10. If all that is true it would mean at least 1 or 2 of the names you mentioned (Smith, Waddle, Parsons) will be available at #11. Also a very strong possibility Slater goes in the top 10. I doubt all 3 of them will be available, but I certainly think 1 or 2 of them being available is likely.
Randomly going to post this here, here's my mock draft:
Leg of Theismann : 4/14/2021 2:02 am : link
#11 -- Devonta Smith, WR (most gifted player in the draft IMO)

#42 -- Wyatt Davis, RG (plug-and-play starting RG to replace Zeitler

#76 -- Brady Christensen, OT (can't hurt to have another swing OT to develop and have for depth)

#116 -- Deyo Odeyingbo, EDGE (I'm biased because I'm a Vandy alum but seriously this guy is one of the more versatile/dynamic defenders in the draft. Also Giants are partial to guys with hard-to-pronounce names.)

#196 -- Shakur Brown, CB (slot corner, can't have enough guys who can cover in today's NFL

#201 -- Patrick Johnson, EDGE (BPA here and even though we already took Odeyingbo earlier can't have enough guys who can rush the passer, especially on this current Giants team)

Wildcard: I would also just like to say: if somehow Trey Sermon is still on the board when the Giants pick in the 4th round, I wouldn't put it past DG to grab him. I think he's gonna be a terrific RB, he serves as a good backup and a guy who will push Barkley, and if he somehow emerges as a solid RB it gives us a good problem with the Barkley decision... I wouldn't put it past DG to be considering this possibility w/ Barkley in his 4th year of his contract. Very few 4th rounders turn out to be starters anyway but if you can steal a solid starting RB who can do it all like Sermon in the 4th round that really could in no way be a bad pick.
Also
Leg of Theismann : 4/14/2021 2:05 am : link
I already misspelled Dayo's name-- which means the Giants have to draft him now. As soon as a player's name is misspelled on BBI he was born to be a Giant lol
Not one vote for Phillips?

Find the videoo...Terrifying hybrid of the Watt brothers.
Then look at his pro day.
Now remember that this is a position of enormous impact, maybe right after the quarterback.
I think it's fair to move away because of his medical history, but he's got to be in the conversation. He is that good.
And when you evaluate the injuries, note that he played last year, Chase, waddle, and Slater did not.
If healthy, no one, and it's not close, could improve this team as much as jaelan Phillips.
As compelling as that is, I am a fan who emphasizes "safe" with high pics. But I'd be doing my due diligence and meeting with neurosurgeons to review his medical history.

God, I hope not. Is it just me or are the Giants always lining up to draft someone who has zero chance at being drafted ahead of their pick? That's the definition of reaching for need. And why we're on the subject, isn't our need for a pass rusher? Excuse me for the lack of excitement for Paye and his whopping 6 sacks. But hey, the guy with 15 sacks who was the consensus top edge rusher when he walked off the field didn't set the world on fire in his 2 minutes in shorts at his pro day. Good grief.
I provided my strategy

Giants weren't expecting A Jackson to shake free during
chick310 : 4/14/2021 9:59 am : link
free agency. Once A Jackson did they jumped on him and it now allows them to be more flexible on adding anything further with the Secondary in the draft.

It would be surprising for them to address it again at #11.

Uber, I think it's clear they've been plugging in the best available at positions of need, including their QB and LT.

college stats really don't tell you much, but in the last full season for Michigan, Paye had 50 tackles, 12.5 for loss and 6.5 sacks, and that was basically his first full year of college football.

Michigan played 4 games in 2020.

Agree 100%. Paye would be a good pick at somewhere between 16-20 but not at 11. He is not a top 15 guy in terms of BPA.

Nobody exactly knows anything. But given the choice, I'm putting my money on the guy who did it at a high level in college over the guy who didn't. GR has the elite length, motor, and hit home nearly 3x the rate in their respective full seasons. That's where I'm putting my money.

most of Rousseau's stats came from the inside, not outside edge, and i don't think he's nearly the athlete that Paye is
Rousseau
ryanmkeane : 4/14/2021 10:16 am : link
...i just don't see the ability to get home in the NFL. he is an average athlete and has average power. his best trait is that he's long and has a good motor, but i don't see any explosiveness with him
...
ryanmkeane : 4/14/2021 10:17 am : link
Phillips and Paye will be much better pros than Rousseau IMO
As I posted on a different thread, I have seen Paye (and Rousseau)
Bill L : 4/14/2021 10:20 am : link
mocked all over the place, including down to the middle of round 2. Take away the QBS and we are selecting one of the top 6 guys in the draft. I gotta believe that a top 6 player is not going to be one where there is no consensus as to where he should be drafted. With all these edge guys, I think you're talking about a group of people that you can pick form with a blindfold one and pretty much end up with the same player. We *have* to be able to do better at the spot we are picking, or, if we *have* to pick an edge, we should be able to get even a nominal extra pick for moving down to where these guys should be clustered.

Since when is rushing the QB from the inside easier? It's not. It's harder. We are talking 3x the results. That's hard to dismiss. Rousseau was a highly productive pass rusher because he has elite length and motor. That probably doesn;t translate into your definition of athlete but when you're wearing pads and actually have someone opposite you, it sure as hell matters.
By the way
UberAlias : 4/14/2021 10:31 am : link
A decent number of Peye's sacks from inside too. Are we dismissing those too? I hope not. He doesn't have an abundance to spare.
Hopefully Paye

ryanmkeane : 4/14/2021 10:45 am : link
My point is that Paye wasn’t really used a whole lot as a straight up pass rusher from the edge. That’s why you don’t see crazy stats with him. Much like Gary, they used him to sit the edge and yes he did play inside too.

Rousseau feels very similar to Taco Charlton in that he had good college stats but very little athleticism for the position. People felt that just because he had the measurables he would be successful, as it turns out he had 1 pass rush move and was really stiff. That seems like Rousseau to me. Just a difference of opinion.
My preference is Waddle
Jim in Forest Hills : 4/14/2021 10:47 am : link

Paye is a ridiculous athlete
ryanmkeane : 4/14/2021 10:49 am : link
for his size. You coach him up and he gets a few more moves, he can be a dominant player. I don’t see that with Rousseau because there’s no baseline athleticism for him to work with. He’s going to get shut down instantly by good OTs.

Rousseau might have the highest upside of any defender in the draft. He had incredible length he knows how to use. He also close and finishes when he sees the QB.

I would take either of those. Unlike the two people the other two posters are arguing about, both Smith and Waddle have both measurable and a record of production. Not an either or (or just potential)
IMO Waddle

I’m all in on Waddle... he would help take our Offense to the next level....legit scary WR.... would bring Tyreke Hill type impact to our offense... imagine DC’s game planning for offense?

My first two picks would be Waddle and Wyatt Davis in the 2nd... we’re gonna have to be a bit lucky for both to drop to our respective spots, but it’s not a crazy idea either...after that...Elerson Smith in the 3rd, and the other picks will be icing on the cake.
