apples when I was hell bent on making my wife pay for "making me" go apple picking with 9 month old twins and my goal was to get her (and the ridiculously overpriced orchard) back by eating at least $1000 worth of apples while picking them.
it did not end well for me.
So, I've been off apples for a while kind of like when you have a bad experience with tequila (though not quite)
Every year vendors at the farmers market have a couple of new varieties I’ve never seen before . Amazing how many Apple varieties there are, especially the heirloom apples
Pink Lady and Ginger Gold, already mentioned, are really good.
No one apple is the best for everything. Sort of like tires.
For eating, you can't beat Strawberry apples. Huge, crisp, sweet, and very filling. One of them makes a great light summer lunch.
For pies, it has to be Northern Spies. Crisp, very tart, and very good at absorbing sugar to bring out the tasty juices, this is the Cadillac of baking apples.
This is probably my second fav.

(in a Barry White voice) Hey baby, whataya say we get in a tub and bob for eachother?
Apple IIe with the Oregon Trail on it. Fond memories of elementary school. As for real apples, no preference
Seconded. Eating one right now
...totally agree. Honeycrisp apples were really good, but their prices became silly...
'Yeah.'
'Well I got her number! How do you like them apples?'
