What ifs and draft impact for this year

Giantimistic : 4/14/2021 10:36 am
Here are 5 what ifs that could happen:

What if Barkley is healthy and has a big year receiving and running.

What is Daniel Jones does make the jump, reduces turnovers, and is putting pressure on the defense by passing and running.

What if the defense takes another jump, and our secondary is the strength that it has the potential to be.

What if the online is at least average and gives enough protection for Barkley and Jones.

What if on the receiving front, Kyle Rudolph makes TE a threat for us and he delivers as a redzone target and Golladay earns his contract.. (What if Engram learns to catch--just kidding, that one may be too big of a jump)

If those 5 what ifs happen, I expect us to be very much in play to go to the playoffs. So knowing that the chance of a draft pick making a significant impact as a rookie after rounds one and two greatly decreases (there are ofcourse exceptions). I do believe that building through the draft is usually about future years, but you can have rookies, especially in the 1st 2 rounds make a difference. I also get it go BPA, however, assume BPA lines up with what you want.

That all being said what draft picks in round one and two could make us a real difficult opponent for other teams this year. We cannot have everything. I see it as 2 picks to make a major difference this year.

Does a high online pick take us from an average online to a above average oline that makes all our offensive players better and gives us depth that can handle injuries.

What if we go WR and Online in one and 2, do we become an offense team that is going to keep Defense Coordinators up late.

What if we double down and go two oline.

Do we become a top 5 defense, if we go defense and get that pass rusher.

What say you. What drafted positions, if we hit on the right players, make us a threat to make a run?
We’d be strong contenders

Waddle or Smith

if Smith doesn't drop. WRs have been coming into the league and making an immediate impact.

I do agree that WRs make immediate impact, even 2nd round ones can as rookies. For impact sake, I would want a 1 or 2 WR. That makes our wrs potentially a top 5 unit.

WR-OL-Edge/OLB

Are the 3 spots that rookies can make a difference and immediate up-grade....

A trade down adding another 2nd RD draft pick....can secure 3 players.

We get hung up with the big splash at 11....but the 2nd RD is stocked with talent..... especially at OL and WR.
Lots of what ifs

but the chances that they all happen are unlikely.

The impact that would help us the most are IOL and ER but its not likely that those 2 will line up with BPA at the time we pick. Slater is the guy if we go OL at 11, he has the versatility to play inside or out. A WR will not have as big an impact if our OL is still a mess.

ER in round 2 may work but I dont see any of them making a major impact. A coverage LB would be nice.

All of the things you want to happen on O can only hapen with an improved OL. If Hernandez is a starter at either Guard it will still be a major issue. He is what he is at this point in my opinion. We are counting on 3 2nd year players to make a jump from sub par rookie seasons. Its a big ask. My hope is that we get a vet from a cut after the draft to shore up the inside.

Well said, and like I’ve been saying for months now is that the O line is the KEY to if the team can get on the plus side of the win colum. What DJ, Barkley, and all the WR you want to add, or have added all hinges on the O line somehow getting better.

I think I have been moving in this direction as well. Even if our oline is good, adding another piece that can start or compete for a starting job might make this biggest impact. Then add another WR in round 2. If our offense is putting up points, and our secondary is planning tough, we can get sacks without and edge.
