To wind up not getting waived. He's done nothing while he was on the roster, and gave up a golden opportunity to be a starter. I'm not questioning his right to skip the year, that's a personal choice, but every one has lapped him now. He's a forgotten man.
that's surprising - he looked pretty good before getting hurt

I would be very surprised if Beal were cut or waived this season.

Based on? Yr 1 he gets hurt and misses the season. Yr 2 shows flashes at best , but in an overly complex D. Yr 3 opts out of a fresh start, new coach, and chance to take The starting role. I’d be surprised if he makes it,
I get the thoughts of why he is a long shot, but the last time we saw him on the field, albeit with a new HC, he had really come on in the Final 4 Games. If they are bringing back Solder in a reserve role, why punish Beal for opting out? Has more talent than Yiadom

I think the view there is that Solder is a special case because of his son's cancer: he gets a pass for opting out, and maybe even for some of his previous awful play.
While I agree with you that Beal should start with a clean slate, the analogy to Nate Solder doesn't really hold up.
Considering the number of top prospects in the Draft who - for one reason or another - played little or not at all in 2020, it seems a little weird to write off Beal if they still think he has second-third round talent. 2020 was a unique year, and I'm not sure much can be inferred from the way each person responded. (I'm assuming Sam Beal didn't go around coughing on chemo patients.) If the staff has simply concluded that he sucks or doesn't fit the system, that's a different matter.
Is there any benefit to holding on to him now if they don’t want him back? The only thing that comes to mind is that he was a Gettleman pick and maybe they don’t want to add to the Baker fiasco. On the other hand, I thought Beal had some potential. Plus, the opt out year would give his shoulder and whatever else a chance to heal.

I would think they are ready to extend Beal. He should be as fresh as a daisy having not played football in the past three years or so...
Dude every time I hear Lewis's name I think of that song.
good point
Same here! More evidence that getting old sucks as I easily get names mixed up.
I wondered what could have possible gone wrong...

I read this as ‘Giants waive Logan Ryan’ at first - mini heart attack!

...me too. Holy shneikies
And I think cutting Beal actually costs more against the cap (with promotion of 52nd highest salary) than keeping him on the roster.
