Every year Locked On Draft has beat reporters pick for their teams. The assignment is to pick who they think the team should select. They do two teams a day. The first ten went like this:
1. Jax - Lawrence
2. NYJ - Wilson
3. SFO - Fields
4. Atl - Lance
5. Cin - Chase
6. Mia - Pitts
7. Det - Waddle
8. Car - Sewell
9. Den - Owusu-Koramoah
10. Dal - Surtain
And with Devonta Smith and Parsons still on the board Pat Traina takes...
Rashawn Slater
I actually think I agree with her. I am not as high on Smith as many on here, who by the way was selected next by the Eagles reporter. I mean I think he's great but not blue chip. I like the idea of fixing this damn line once and for all.
The next few picks went like this by the way.
11. NYG - Slater
12. Phi - Smith
13. SD - Darrisaw
14. Min - Paye

eg, I'd be surprised if Slater is graded above Smith.
There no possible way Slater is graded above Smith. Smith had one the best seasons in CFB history at WR, he got BETTER after Waddle went down against the best corners in the SEC. He played big, in big games. He could be number 1 on a few teams boards. He had a more dominant 2020 season at WR than Lawrence had at QB.
There is nobody who has Smith number one overall. Are you listening to what beat reporters are saying? Most have him as the third WR, never mind overall player. I think you are blinded by his college production and Heisman. A lot of these college stand outs fail. remember Archie Griffin? Charles White? Peter Warrick? Charles Rogers?
Better, productive prospects have been busts. There is a reason most think Smith will be there for the Giants.

Most? I prefer Waddle to Smith but I am not an expert nor in the majority many are concerned with Waddle's ankle. . The only knock on Smith is his weight and I am not bothered by that at all. He played against corners that will be drafted in the first round, they knew the ball was going to Smith in BIG games and Smith DOMINATED them anyway. His play is beautiful, he is an artist on the field. Football Silk. Marvin Harrison.
I wouldn't complain if they pick Smith. It will be exciting to watch and anticipate. I think I prefer Waddle and Slater, but I won't bitch about adding Smith or Parsons.
Then work on the OL, get another corner and an edge rusher, and worry about RB and more depth on both lines on day 3.
Unless the Giants get a "King's Ransom" in a trade down and still get a clear top 10 player, a big group will be unhappy.
And there's no doubt he'll have the whole thing clocked with Saban, Holmon Wiggins and David Balou. If he's there at 11, you take him.

That is a lot of muscle for someone his size. People have a limit they can add muscle. I think people over estimate how much muscle pro players can add especially in a very intense program like Alabama. Now strength is a different story.

on virtually anything Traina has to say about pretty much everything. That said, there's a real possibility that Smith benefits from a pro S&C regimen, nutrition program and complete lifestyle change from being a college student. Another 5-10 pounds would do him a lot of good without compromising the ability to use his athleticism. Plus, according to pretty much everyone, he's a very hard worker so the character question - something big on Judge's list - has the needle pointing up.

I mean, he's 6'1" so his frame can take a bit more bulk. Not a ton - but 7-8 pounds right in the middle - would make some difference and not compromise what he's good at. A pro S&C team will put him right where he needs to be.
Clearly. Though the blocking thing is going to be a work in process thing at the next level.
But putting him in motion and clearing out one side of the field with as many defenders he can take with him will be helpful if Barkley can regain his generational speed...
Assuming the Giants are ok with Parson's character issues, this really isn't even close ...
You know Eli will be in the hall of fame right
He's from Bama, that's as close to pro as it gets
The current starting guards are Shane Lemieux and Will Hernandez. And the presumptive starting RT is a 2nd year late third round pick out of uconn who is unproven. The OL needs good players

Gettleman has pretty much said Peart is the presumptive starter at RT which I for one am happy with. I sure like Solder as a swing with a year off.
I do believe they will grab a OG. If Gates goes down, Lemieux maybe shifts to C, and hopefully we'll still be good at that spot. Even Gates could play either Guard or RT in a pinch. A 2nd or 3rd round OG could really give them options. But I don't want Slayer with any of Smith, Waddle, or Parsons still on the board, and I believe it's a near certainty one of them will be.
I would've taken Donald and said so at the time.
I think if either Smith or Pitts is still on the board at #11, that's the pick. Though I doubt either is.
If not, I've got a sneaking feeling it might be Kwity Paye. Talent meets need with explosive potential to be a game changer, while still having a high floor.

Parsons IS The Shiny Object... I think it's real Gold

Why would we be okay with not even the idea of competition at RT?
What did Peart do last year that suggests he should just be handed the job?
Not to mention that wrt Slater it's moot since he can't even play his college position in the nfl.
The way some of you guys are talking about him you would swear he's Bobby Wagner.
