Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin (and James Harden) are all OUT tonight against the 76ers, according to the Nets' injury report.
Kyrie Irving is not listed on the injury report and could play against the Sixers. |
What an embarrassment for the league. If the stars don’t care about the regular season, why should I as a fan? The NFL gets so much shit for being greedy, but there is no bigger slap in the face than this in any major league. This was a marquee game I was actually looking forward to, I’ll watch baseball instead.

against Embiid in the playoffs.
The guy isn’t even hurt... rest? The guy hasn’t played since Saturday
I just don’t get it
I have to say though, on this specific topic, I truly respect Lebron's approach. Similar to MJ, his mindset is basically: "this might be some fan's only chance to see me play, or some parent paid a lot of money to take their kid to see me play, if I'm healthy and available why wouldn't I play." And that's why Lebron misses so few games. Once he leaves, I don't know who is carrying that torch in that sense.
I will say now that there are barely any fans in the stands, it probably means less to the few guys who still think like Lebron, but even if there were fans in the stands I bet Durant/Harden/Irving would be taking this same approach (the "who gives a fuck about the fans" approach). It's really disappointing. I'm all for players holding out to get paid as much as they possibly can, but the fans are the whole reason they're playing the sport they love and making millions-- it's kinda fucked up to say "who cares" as though the fans are just an extraneous piece of the equation.
I'd be fucking pissed if I paid good $ to see this game and this happened, though.
But it’s been a joke since it decided to let LeBron James call all the shots.
The playoffs are going to be really fun this year if everyone is healthy. It's a shame what happened to Jamal Murray, the Nuggets were looking like a legitimate contender after the Gordon addition. Hopefully we have no more unfortunate injuries like that.
Irving...that I will agree with. He is a clown & should retire if he doesn't want to play.
Because people love basketball?
Yes. I would much rather watch a 9 hour baseball game.

Have you ever been critical of the NBA? You think this is a good look? I notice you like to get your digs in at the NFL a lot, but this doesn’t bother you?

Playoffs should be good. But, why should I care about the regular season if the players don’t?
I agree it doesn't look good but context.
I agree it doesn't look good but context.
It’s a marquee game in the east. Both these teams are tied for first in the conference. Different times I suppose.
And I’m not saying the playoffs will be bad, I think the conference finals will be fantastic. As a fan though, hard for me to value the regular season though.
I think most people commenting were former NBA fans, I know I was and I’d love to be one day again. But not with this shit. These guys aren’t worth what they make and fans deserve a hell of a lot better this.
This is also a reflection of sports these days as a whole. The win a championship at all costs mentality actually isn’t all that enjoyable to be honest.
I agree it doesn't look good but context.
Yeah because they needed Durant to play 27 minutes last night against the freakin Timberwolves? The Nets would have won that game with you and I getting those minutes. It’s a bad look that they decide to sit him during a nationally televised game against the team they are competing with for the 1 seed. Tons of people have been looking forward to this game. You and the teams may not give a damn but I guarantee you that ESPN and YES do, and they help pay the bills along with the fans that are getting screwed.
Brooklyn is going to struggle in the playoffs.
New coach who has never coached in the playoffs.
They don't play defense and it will take a minute to get in sync when everyone is in the lineup.
Lakers are in trouble from a seeding perspective if they don't get healthy soon.
Would love to see them in a play-in situation.
before the season ends and you want to rest some starters to not risk injury.
But, this is basketball !! - why are the benching them anyway? From Russo's rant (lol) - it does not sound like they are hurt?
The playoffs don't start for another month.

Sorry - I missed Joemoney's post before I posted.

Sean. Harden is injured. Aldridge is sick. KD is coming back from calf injury. Griffin is workload.

So you'd have this game as KD's first game back? Huh?
Not since the 80's and the 90's .....
How many guys on the roster 10? 12? Did they sign any free agents? 7 guys not playing leaves how many left?

What are you talking about? Durant played Saturday as well.

I'm with you on this. It isn't like soccer threads where people who never liked the sport chime in just to say the sport sucks. Most people who are disappointed in the NBA used to be fans, sometimes rabid fans. I'm to the point where I'd rather watch a middle of the road college game than the farce known as the NBA regular season.
I agree it doesn't look good but context.
Exactly. As a Nets fan, I'm happy they are being careful with their stars, especially KD.
This also wasn't supposed to be a back-to-back situation. I bet KD would have played both had the Minn game not been postponed a day.
Forget man. You’ll continue ball washing the NBA until the end of time. No sense trying to explain to you why people think the product has MAJOR issues anymore.
Just fucking cancel the regular season and let these clowns make $40 Million/per to have a tournament and crown a “champion”. After all, that’s all that matters.
KD only came back a few days ago from a hamstring in his return season from an achilles and was playing into the 4Q yesterday in a blowout vs. Minny.
LMA and Griffin got bought out by their old teams a few weeks ago. Nobody bought a ticket because they were excited to see them come off the bench vs. Philly.
Kyrie is Kyrie but the rest is just unfortunate luck.
And re: "load management" every team is doing it. Even teams not in the championship picture like Indy, Tor, and Cle. It is what it is this year with all the condensed scheduling.

Regardless, why are you having someone with a history of lower body injuries playing back to back? I get why KD is sitting tonight. Nets are title or bust. You want him playing when it matters most. Nets eventually probably need the Big 3 to play significant time in regular season to mesh before playoffs.

I like basketball being played @ it's highest level so yes, I will continue to keep 'ball washing the NBA'. Don't you post on Knicks threads so sorta confused about your hatred for the league? Whatever man.

Stop making sense! The Kyrie thing is a joke though. He should just retire if he doesn't want to play.
Let’s put this another way, can the league do better?
Let’s put this another way, can the league do better?
The NBA? Yes. I hate the time management thing. I would love if the league did something about it, but-as it stands-teams are going to utilize it. I too long for the days of a Jordan playing 82 games, but it's a different era/league is doing nothing to penalize healthy guys sitting.
I remember watching MJ to the Max & him saying he gave 100% each game because there was someone in the stands who never saw him play live before & would never again. I miss that type of spirit.
Let’s put this another way, can the league do better?
100%. All the leagues can do better. The NBA seems to have a higher of % of fans threatening to quit all the time because times have changed.

Harden has been injured for 2 weeks and already came back too soon and got reinjured once.

It's definitely bizarre but as someone who was bummed the Nets swapped Dlo for him at the time I get why they do it because I can't believe how good he is when he plays. He is just a different guy. Almost like Ricky Williams.

That’s the point!!!!! I WANT to watch good basketball. I’ve been looking forward to tonight. Get to flip between the Knicks/Pelicans and Nets/Sixers. Now it’s the Knicks only. That’s what people on this thread keep trying to say. Most of us have been NBA fans for a long time. But it’s becoming harder and harder to give a damn. You seem kind of young so you probably have no idea where we are coming from. Or just want to call us old and “get off my lawn” types. I don’t care what you want to call us, honestly.
In that span you had:
Magic-Bird rivalry
Bad Boys Pistons
The greatest player of All-Time and Bulls Dynasties
The Dream Team
Stockton and Malone
Eastern Conference Bulls/Knicks/Heat/Pacers/Magic rivalries
Dominant Era for Bigs Dream/Shaq/Ewing/Zo/Robinson/Smith/Mutombo
Enforcers like Oakley, Davis Brothers, PJ Brown
NBA on NBC and it’s theme music
I could go on and on but really it’s so obvious. The biggest thing missing these days is toughness and competition. These players are all soft. They play soft and they shy away from competition. I’m willing to give LeBron credit because he does pretty much show up every night if not injured, but he is forever the poster boy of ring chasing in your prime rather than waiting until you’re washed up. I used to think Durant was a competitor but he’s a bigger clinger on than LeBron. And forget about the league’s politics which is so hypocritical it’s a joke.

I'm 41. I watched 90s basketball. I love basketball. Do I love EVERYTHING going on right now? No. But I am going to watch it.
