Possibly to get ahead of NYG for one of the Bama WR's.

Report: #Eagles exploring move back into the top 10
If they make the move, the player I think they trade up for is Jaylen Waddle. |

Speculation from Philly that Howie may try to move ahead of the Giants to get Waddle... |
Seems like Philly is playing franchise mode in Madden or something... Weren't they just at 6? What the hell are they thinking? I just really hope they don't steal our guy... this draft is beginning to feel like 2016 a little... I'd spend 11+76 to move up for one of Sewell/Slater/Smith/Waddle. One of those guys on offense and an Edge guy at 42 will help this team greatly right now in year 1 and beyond.
I'd hate for them to get Smith.
Chances are good the Top rookie WR won't be selected by Philly

Versatility is key: #Oregon LT Penei Sewell, the Draft’s consensus top OT, has been training at right tackle as well as left tackle (which he played in college). Sewell is preparing for the possibility that someone with an entrenched LT drafts him & puts him at RT for a year.
You can say the same thing about pick 20...
There isn't 10 blue chip players in this draft...
I'd like us to get one, particularly when I want to evaluate if Daniel Jones is truly our franchise Quarterback...
Don't settle for anyone other than Chase, Pitts, Smith, Waddle, Sewell or Slater. If we gotta go up to 7, 8 or 9 to guarantee that, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
In principle I agree. But the only draft pick we don’t have is a 5th rounder. We don’t have a 7th but we have two 6th rounders instead. If they think Chase/Waddle/Smith are going to be one of DG’s “gold jacket guys” then you trade up. Depending on the number of spots they would have to move up you could conceivably trade #11 this year and maybe a second rounder in 2022 to get it done.
I just hope they don't go full on Draft Day Costner and get a lot more out of this than they should.
Trading up makes no sense in this draft. There isnt much difference is the level of the top 8-9 position players. Look at all of the mock drafts they are all over the place in the top 15. the only thing that is pretty sure is the top 3 picks are going to be QBs. Let the draft come to us and take the best available. None of these players are gold jacket types, they all have question marks.
The guy I want is Slater, he will help our OL and provide depth across it. WRs can be found throughout the draft. The Edge guys all have some issues. I think Slater is the surest pick if he is there and fills a need and is good value.
Like others have said, if the Eagles want to spend valuable picks because they've fallen in love with a certain player, let them.
Waddle is great, but Philly seems a bit of a mess right now and one pretty disgruntled bunch.
Not to suggest the Giants should do anything stupid. But in terms of incremental impact to our roster, short-term and long-term, I think these three would bring the biggest bang for our buck.
I also think the red chip talent goes down sharply soon thereafter...
If Waddle goes top 10 (I could see a trade with Carolina or with Detroit) that means someone else we want is coming to 11.
I think 4 QB's go 1-4. Cincy at 5 is going Chase, Pitts or Sewell but, with all three there they could drop down a few (if Denver, Detroit or Carolina decide to move up for Mac Jones). Assume Chase goes here to team with Burrow for now.
Miami- goes Pitts or Smith at this spot or again, with talent available they could drop down a few). I think it is Pitts.
Detroit- they could go Smith but doesn't like the choice for new coach Dan Campbell's first draft. I think they go Parsons.
Carolina- Mac Jones could be the guy here BUT, they picked up Darnold's option and I think they believe they can win with him. They just lost Samuel and I think Smith or Waddle could go here but so could Surtain. For now I will say Waddle goes here.
Denver could trade here but I think they take Mac Jones.
Dallas- with Surtain there they go Surtain (but, a trade with a team wanting a WR is possible)
That brings us to the Gmen with Sewell, Slater and Smith on the Board. If someone above takes Sewell instead that leaves Waddle and Smith sitting here.
If it fell that way then Sewell would have to be considered but Smith would most likely be the choice.
If Waddle goes top 10 (I could see a trade with Carolina or with Detroit) that means someone else we want is coming to 11.
Well, actually it may not mean that at all. Unless of course you know specifically who the players are that the Giants want the most. And the boards of all the teams ahead of us of course.
If you do, would you mind sharing it?

Well- I think it is pretty obvious we go into a draft (picking 11) with at least 11 guys we would want in RD 1.. That seems to make mathmatical sense. Assuming the QB's are not one of the 11 that brings us to 7 or 6 of our TOP 11 could be picked before our spot.
Waddle may be of interest but the point is he isn't consistently projected in the top 10. Assuming he does go then teams who currently are projected for other players would see that player drop (so someone else in our overall top 11 is dropping to us). Seems pretty obvious.
We want 5 QB's in the top 10 and if anyone else like Darisaw, Barimore, Moehring, Bateman, Horn and Surtain go in top 10 then more obvious needs and interest players fall to our pick.
Again, for all we know Paye is our top choice in Rd 1. My point is if Waddle is a target for someone else then that means someone else in our 1st round pick rankings is sliding down.
Never tarde up out of fear- see Bears and their move for Trubisky.
And just because Waddle may not be in a lot of top 10 draft projections and mocks, doesn't mean much at all. It only matters what the 10 teams ahead of us (sans any trades) have.
I disagree, they certainly signed enough players this offseason in FA to merit trading up. If there is someone they really want, I hope they go get em.
If the list of blue-chip prospects is that self-evident, why would any of the teams in front of DAL and NYG trade down?
The reality is probably much more complicated. 32 teams have 32 different boards. Some likely have Parsons and a CB or two in their top non-QB tier. Or Vera-Tucker. Or Darrisaw. Or Paye. Or somebody we aren't discussing at all.
Above all, we have no idea what the Giants' board looks like. You have your six favorites, great. Your list means as much as any other fan's.
Trading up might get the Giants the guy they want. So might sitting still. Or trading down.

Whats horrible to me is thinking one of (yet alone both) Devonta Smith or Penei Sewell are going to fall to 11. I really disagree.
If I had to project, just as you are, I'd say only one of Pitts, Chase, Sewell, Smith, Slater and Waddle can make it to 11... and I think it would be Waddle... but thats IF and ONLY IF, at least in my mind, 5 quarterbacks go top 10... which I don't believe has ever happened... EVER.

Obviously I have no idea, we have no idea what the Giants board truly looks like... or anyone else's board for the matter.
And there is never a consensus list of blue chippers. 32 teams aren't ever going to view a group of 5 to 10 players exactly the same.
Maybe Detroit, Carolina and Denver won't trade down, I don't know, maybe they will... I clearly wouldn't but we've established no team all teams aren't going to look at this the same. I'm saying I'd try the trade up, some people are saying "we don't have enough picks" im saying I'd give up 11+76 to go up "if the opportunity presents itself" and if it doesn't then obviously its a no go.
Final thought: If Dallas goes on the clock at #10 with a choice between their favorite CB and their third-choice receiver (fourth, really, if you count Pitts), it's hard to imagine them passing on the cornerbacks. Now, they might trade down, and screw the Giants that way. But I would be surprised if they added Jaylen Waddle to a stacked WR corps, given their choice of Surtain, Horn and Farley.

Totally agree with you on this. We are a KG minor injury away from having crap at receiver again. One more premium level player in that group would make a huge difference on the scoreboard this season and beyond. The reality is Shepard’s contract may exceed his worth next season and Slayton has 2 years left under contract. Drafting another high end receiver on a rookie scale deal where you have the 5th year option makes a ton of sense.
Seems like NYG will not try to move up, even a little to assure Smith. We'll see, there has to be some plan in case one of Sewel/ Smith is there at 8-9.

Agreed. But I think its close to 0% chance they pass on Sewell, Slater or Pitts (who all maybe gone by then, but you never know) for a cornerback at 10.
Pitts
Smith
Chase
Waddle
Sewell
Parsons
Slater
I am happy with any of that. Philly can do what they want.
That is who they are competing with to move up.
sorry but he isnt THAT valuable when you have what we have now at WR. If it was sewell, Id feel a little better as OL is a much greater hole.
If its me, I am staying at 11 and seeing whats there. move back if anything.

What do we have at WR though outside of KG? Shepard plays about 10 games a year and Slayton is and up and down 5th round pick. And Ross is on a one year flier deal and will likely be used as a gadget player. I get this is a deep draft at receiver but if Judge’s Alabama connections suggest Smith or Waddle are special players you make the trade and not look back. If those receivers end up being the next Marvin Harrison or Tyreek Hill in Waddle’s case no one will care that we gave up a second in 2022 and a fourth in 2021 or whatever the cost may be to move up 4 or 5 spots.

I totally agree that people overstate the level of depth at our skill positions at the present, and that we need to come out of the draft with a WR who can contribute right away.
That being said, there is good reason to believe value will match need there in Rd2, and so no reason to do anything rash like moving up from 11.

Yep, that is why I mentioned the short and long term thing.
Besides adding a weapon for Jones now, grabbing another WR allows for the easy release of Shepard after next year to save dollars, a hedge in case Slayton continues to look more like a #3 guy versus a #2 guy, and protection against Golladay becoming more of an expensive headache that was never worth the contract.
Roster planning...
They now have extra picks thanks to the Miami deal , and the move to 7-9 should cost them less than they got from that deal, and even 4 or 5 shouldn’t cost more than a ‘22 third plus what they got from Miami.
And they have no fear to make a bold move.
So why don't we just jettison our first round pick then?
(sarcasm)

Who do you think won that trade?
And just because Waddle may not be in a lot of top 10 draft projections and mocks, doesn't mean much at all. It only matters what the 10 teams ahead of us (sans any trades) have.
Players I would bet the house will go before the Giants pick...plus three quarterbacks:
Ja'Marr Chase, Kyle Pitts, Penei Sewell. Probably could throw Surtain in there as well, because I don't think he gets past Dallas, but I'm just going to stick with those three.
Therefore, with 3 QBs taken and 3 position players taken, there's only 4 more players that will go before the Giants pick, so pick a group of 5 guys. The Giants WILL have a chance to pick from that group.
My group of 5:
Waddle
DeVonta Smith
Parsons
Kwity Paye
Patrick Surtain
I'll throw in Slater because I know that's who a large contingent of BBI wants. I don't think Slater is making it to our pick, I'll say that. I think he's going top 10. And as I said, Surtain as well. But the Giants WILL be able to draft a player out of this group. It's a certainty. Multiple players out of this group will still be on the board. And if a 4th QB goes top 10, we could see up to 3 or maybe even 4 of these guys still on the board.
It's Waddle or Parsons for me. If both are gone, DeVonta Smith. And if he's gone, it will be between Surtain and Slater, I suppose.
And after that, a lot of things can happen so the guessing game starts there.
I do think there is a pretty good chance one or both of Smith and Waddle are available when the Giants pick. And I combine that with what Rico last suggested that they really love those two, Pitts and Surtain, and it sounds like our pick will most likely be an Alabama guy (since Pitts is in the top 6 names).
And that’s where we are about 2 weeks out...
