Former New York Giants general manager George Young will be one of nine figures inducted posthumously into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on the weekend of the NFL draft. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will celebrate the careers and contributions of nine men – members of either the Centennial Class of 2020 or the Class of 2021 – during a 90-minute special that will air Saturday, May 1 on NFL Network and Tuesday, May 4 on ESPN2. Those to be honored posthumously during “Hall of Famer Forever: Enshrinement Special” are Centennial Class of 2020 members Bobby Dillon, Winston Hill, Alex Karras, Steve Sabol, Duke Slater, Mac Speedie, Ed Sprinkle and George Young, as well as Bill Nunn from the Class of 2021. |
That said, GOOD! The HOF got this one right ....finally!

I am of the belief that once someone is deceased, many people/organizations no longer prioritize their accomplishments. Kind of a "....well, he's already dead so it won't be an issue to make him wait a little longer"
attitude.
They added 20 to the Hall for 2020, but never had an induction ceremony for them due to COVID. With the 2021 class they are up to 28 people to be inducted.
By doing the dead ones with the draft they get their moment in the sun and reduce the number of speeches on HoF weekend to 19, which is still way too many, but better than 28.

why this weekend and not the normal August 7-8 with the other inductees?

I wish the Hall would get more selective about who gets in, like baseball. Do you really think there are 5-8 future Hall of Fame players in the draft every single year? Once Eli gets in they should become much more selective.
Much deserved Mr. Young. Congratulations.
RIP.
He had a bad few years but he has an amazing run. How many GMs are perfect? Only the very lucky few.
Mixed? Dude turned around a listless franchise. We should all get our knees each night & thank God Rozelle gifted him to us. That & the Maras infighting...
He was instrumental in making them relevant again. But his stubbornness never allowed him to figure out free agency, kept Belichick from becoming Giants coach, and stood in the way of Parcells return.
Not sure he belongs in Hall, but congratulations to family.
