“I would not count out the Giants drafting an offensive lineman (at No. 11),” Kiper said. “You’ve gotta fix that spot or Daniel Jones is going to have no chance, even though you’ve got some receivers now with (Kenny) Golladay coming in, you could add Jaylen Waddle, you could add a lineman, could add a linebacker like Micah Parsons. They have some needs they have to address in this draft, it’s doing to be interesting to see how they attack it To that end, Kiper said the Giants “would have to think about” drafting Northwestern offensive lineman Rashawn Slater at No. 11 regardless of who else is in the board in the 2021 NFL Draft. “Slater’s a heckuva player,” Kiper said. “He can play left tackle, right tackle or guard, so he can wear a lot of hats on that offensive line … if Slater’s there he would be really interesting.” |
First thing I thought to. Essentially they are going to be drafting a football player, surprised he didn't throw punter in there.
that's music to my ears...i guess we will throw Parsons in there too based on Peppers nugget today. Reasonable to think that Smith, Waddle, Parsons, Paye are the top 4
I am among those who believe that another solid OLine starter is more likely to improve our O than another WR or TE (with the possible exception of Pitts, who will be long gone by the time we pick). I also fear a repeat of last season's struggles on O if the OLine doesn't improve.
I am hoping it's WR or Edge. Look at drafting for the OL in rounds 2 or 3.

Plus Surtain.
Got it.
Same. Add Pitts to that but he won't be there anyway. And PArsons is edge ;)

If he’s an edge, why hasn’t he been marketed as an edge? Everything I’ve read up on him (including Sy’s guide) he’s listed as a linebacker like Martinez.
Got it.
Eric. Not just need to but have to. Imagine the Giants actually having to think about football players. Will wonders never cease.
We have an enormous number of questions at various positions. I think we have answers to many of them. (I love Peart and Lemieux. I think Slayton will bounce back from his sophomore slump the way Toomer did...etc.). But the front office has to be terrified to get this draft wrong. And we only have 6 picks so every miss is magnified. And it isn't enough to get guys who can play special teams. We got a boatload of them last year.
That said I agree 56, well this was nothing I do watch him when I catch him on TV. I suppose he’s just too much a part of the 80s for me to completely ignore him.
Got it.
Ha ha, more expert analysis from our friends at ESPN.

It's likely Fields and Lance are at 11 and somebody makes us an offer to prevent Philly from grabbing them at 12.

Are worth the reach at 11. Slater won’t make it to 11. I’m banking on it’s either WR Or Parsons

I think it is highly unlikely either Lance or Fields will be there at 11. Perhaps Mac Jones will be there.
As much as he would be my favorite pick - I don't think the Giants will take him. As a result, it comes down to Smith (and maybe Waddle) or possibly Surtain. I don't expect Pitts, Chase, or Sewell to be available. So it's bets if someone takes Slater, increasing the Giants chances of getting Smith.

By 11 anyway.

I meant to say As a result, it comes down to Smith (and maybe Waddle) or possibly Surtain instead of the Edge which I prefer they don't get with the 11th pick.

I forget the GM, but that GM who told Kiper off during a mid '90s draft was classic.

Bill Tobin ...
I think we are going edge... I could get happy with Paye or or Ojulari even LB Parsons
I think I want Waddle
Edge at 11 would piss me off. There’s zero chance the best player available will be an edge.

Jon is basically saying OL (aside from a near miraculous Sewell drop) won't make the grade for the Giants here. If you look at their history they rarely if ever took a guy to play OG round 1.

And it would be a mistake to pass on Slater for an edge.
New info or never say never?
I would think we would go Edge over any OL not named Sewell. Personally I would p take Slater , Jenkins or even AVT over the Edge in this draft but I doubt that's how NYG is thinking. But a WR like Smith making 11 should undoubtedly change the dynamic.
I don't personally believe an EDGE will be the BPA at 11 because the number of QBs going in the top 10 will push back higher graded prospects. However, this is team-building. It's not as simple as "draft BPA". There's an equation; BPA, need, p.v., analytical data, medicals, character are all key factors in that equation. Some hold more weight than others depending on the team.. That's how draft boards are built.
Only 12 more days, let's see what other info gets out.
They pay him for this?
