This exercise is intended to identify the players on the 90 man roster who are locks or very likely to make the final 53, and thereby identify how many spots are available for rookies, udfas, and additional free agents. I'll do Offense tomorrow.
Defensive Backs (8): Bradberry, Jackson, Holmes, Peppers, Ryan, McKinley, Love, Yiadom
Linebackers/Edge: (8): Martinez, Crowder, Ragland, Carter, Ximenes, Anderson, Coughlin, Brown
Defensive Linemen: (6): Williams, Lawrence, Shelton, Johnson, Hill, Odenigbo
Total: (22) If we expect 25 defensive players on the 53, that leaves 3 spots up for grabs.
I expect at least one edge rusher early in the draft, with another couple of early picks used on receivers and/or OL. So that begs the question: if BPA aligns, would you invest a late round pick on a developmental player at another defensive position, or roll with what we have, and use those picks on offense?
BTW: Some players I didn't include above that could possibly compete for a spot include Brunson, McIntosh, Speaks, Lalos, Beal, Q Wilson.
What do you think?
We are well stocked at Safety but I shudder to think what happens if one of our high priced corners go down and Yiadom is our best backup
What do you mean? He’s listed as a cornerback.

Agreed, I’d like to see the Giants draft Benjamin St. Juste, Kelvin Joseph, Asante Samuel Jr. Eric Stokes, or Tyson Campbell in round 3 or 4.
That's the most deep and complete I've seen our D roster, in a long time.
Add an Edge in 1st or 2nd and we just might have an old fashioned kick ass Giant defense.

Thanks Dr. D.
It may not be star studded but we haven’t had this much defensive depth in a while. Ragland, Anderson, Speaks and Wilson were all second rounders getting fresh starts to revive their careers, seem more likely to stick than a sixth rounder or UDFA.
My guess is that at most we see defensive picks at Edge (early) and CB (4th) in first four rounds.
Previous high picks with something to prove. These are the kinda guys I like filling out the bottom of the roster.
They might be versatile with him. He can rush inside and out.
In the scheme, he should be listed as the rush end on four down lineman and at LOLB in 3-4 situations.
I hope that Quincy Wilson and Sam Beal are on the final roster. We need at least one of them to develop. I love can play CB that helps to alleviate the need & maybe Hartage can help at CB as well as FS if he can stick.
I don't know that Carter will be healthy. I don't see Cam Brown, Carter Coughlin, or Niko Lalos making the team as edge guys at OLB. If we count Ximines, Anderson, and Odenigbo there's not much room there considering we will likely draft a guy within the first 3 rounds.

I’d be shocked if Coughlin and Cam Brown don’t make the team. They both showed a lot of promise last year. I think Carter gets cut or IR’d. And it wouldn’t shock me to see Coughlin and Cam Brown pass Ximines on the depth chart.
Side note: Gettleman never gets enough credit and when I look over the defensive roster I feel that the man gets shit on far too often around here. He's doing a great job. This defense is full of former day one or day two picks; In fact our final roster of 25 could have only a handful of guys, Love, Holmes, & Martinez as 4th rounders and Odenigbo as a former 7, McIntosh was a 5, Crowder, Coughlin & Brown were all day three choices.
5 former 1st round picks, 7 former 2nd round picks, and 6 former 3rd round picks. 18 out of a final 25 if they all make it; that's a good collection of talent. We really do need to draft offense and go with what we have on defense.

100% agree with you. I’d like to see Smith/Waddle round 1 and Guard round 2. We need to score some points to compete. Defense is fine as is in my opinion. The Jackson selection solidified the CB2 spot.

Active/inactive ("53-Man") list: The active/inactive list remains at 53 players for the regular season and playoffs. However, a team can increase its roster to 54 or 55 players only by using the standard elevation addendum (explained below) to bring one or two practice squad players to the active/inactive list.
Standard elevation addendum: Now included in all practice squad contracts, the standard elevation addendum allows teams to move a player from the practice squad to the active/inactive list for one week and then back to the practice squad without subjecting him to waivers. Under this addendum, a player reverts back to his team's practice squad on the first business day after the game in which he is elevated. These players receive the applicable minimum salary for a player with his number of credited seasons (prorated for one week of regular season pay or the applicable postseason amount). This clause can be used by a team for a maximum of two regular-season or postseason games per player per season. If the team elevates a player for a third time and the team wishes to move him back to the practice squad, it has to waive or terminate his player contract. If a player is released or clears waivers (whichever is applicable) and he signs a practice squad contract with a new team, he is once again eligible to be elevated for the aforementioned maximum of two games.
However, I do not see any references to a 17 game schedule here. So, who knows.

The big variable, of course, will be injuries. The OP's list of 22 names is fine, for now. The Mike Tyson Rule applies here: Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face.
I currently have:
DL (7): Williams, Lawrence, Shelton, Hill, Johnson, McIntosh, Speaks
OLB (4): Odenibgo, Day 1/2 Draft Choice, Carter, Brown
ILB (4): Martinez, Anderson, Ragland, Crowder
CB: (5): Bradberry, Jackson, Holmes, Day 2/3 Draft Choice, McCourty
S: (4): Peppers, McKinny, Ryan, Love
If they don't sign McCourty, Yiadom probably sticks. I guess there is an outside chance Beal is the 5th corner if something lights a fire under his ass. Flip a coin between Carter and Ximines, between Brown and Coughlin.
I’m not quite sure how McIntosh is still on the team, since he didn’t play a down for the whole of 2020 and was presumably healthy. If Judge likes him enough to keep him why didn’t he play?
Good point above about how guaranteed money may effect roster decisions. I think we were smart to pick up a few bargain veterans on one year deals due to the depressed cap market, and they're more valuable this year than more youth to develop.
Also, to come back from IR during the season I believe the player has to first make the initial 53 man roster. If they are PUPed I believe they cannot practice during the preseason, so I'm hoping all of our rehabbing players can start the season on the 53. Especially Barkley, Carter and Ximenes.

DG addressed ILB, CB, NT and backup Edge in FA. I expect us to address one of these positions on Day 2 or 3.
But the screaming open wound on our roster is OLB/Edge, which DG tried to address by wooing Leonardo Floyd to NY last month, but failed.
I expect us to address this in the First Round on April 29.
