No, not at all. Voit happened to get injured, otherwise he would have never made the team. In fact, in spring training, when his opt out date approached, he was told he could seek out other teams- until the injury news broke.
They didn’t have a better option at the end of March, and that was that. He was literally a throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks guy. They didn’t like what they saw, but didn’t have a more experienced option- and Ford had a bad spring.
Cost the Yanks nothing to bring him in or to lose him.
Why was it a "heckuva miscalculation"? Bruce was about to be cut in spring training and he was kept when Voit got hurt. He was likely to be cut after Voit got back. They took a chance Bruce might have had something left but he doesn't.

We continue to pass on more reliable vets while keeping guys like Bruce. Gittens was mashing and he has nothing more to prove. Ditto Ford.
They shouldn't have brought him back because every game matters.

No question Bruce is done and the move didn't work. But you are kidding yourself if you think the Yanks are going to turn over major
ABs to guys like: Ford, Tauchman and Giddens. They are minor leaguers and bench players. Yanks wanted roll the dice and go with a vet who might deliver. Bruce in his prime was 3 times the hitter than each of them are now. He's just a long way from his prime.

Boy am I glad you are NOT the Yanks GM.
To repeat a point you conveniently ignored- Ford has a TERRIBLE spring. Add in that Ford's 2019 appears more likely to be a Kevin Maas type of fluke rather than norm, and he's emergency use only.
Gittens DID have a very good spring training with the bat- no question. He also is NOT on the 40 man roster and has yet to see a single AAA AB. However, he is NOT a good defensive 1B. The Yanks have enough defensive issues as it is- let's not add to them.
Let's also revisit that 40 man roster issue. With Voit only weeks if not less away, using one of Gittens 3 option years for a short stint would hurt his future chances- as he still has development to complete. In would also mean that he would be required to stick with the Yanks after ST 2024 with no ability to send back to the minors without losing him.
A GM who makes panic moves like that that damages roster flexibility won't be the GM when those costs come around. You have to have one eye on the now and another on the future. This team isn't build for "one and done" but for long term competitiveness. Fans who get themselves worked up into a panicked later 15 games into 1 62 season are missing big and small picture sight.
Of shit Cashman with you, he built the worst possible fucking team you could have built when with the right moves after Girardi got them to upset the aIndians with the eight moves they were set. He cares only for Home Runs, screw contact, screw defense, the two elements vital to winning in tge post season, he has gone with the worst shortstop and worst catcher the Yankees have ever had other then a guy who was here temporarily. He saw how horrible they were and still went with them, he puts Gardner back into the starting lineup and ruins Tachman, a player that when ge was healthy and playing his game was a huge reason why they were winning, gets rid of Didi, another player who was vital to the success, Tanaka, another player vital to their success. Plays a DH who can't even stay on the field 25 million a year, after being shackled with Arod at the end of his career and with Ellsbury. The worst free agent signing in the history of baseball. He isnemployed only because the owner could give two shuts about the team. When the Mets steal the town off the Yanks, the person responsible is Cashman. Glad he fucked Girardi and stole the team off him? Keep listening to Met fan Boomer Esiasan about how great Cashman is.
I met him once at a bar in Chicago. A friend I was with-big Mets fan-recognized him & approached him as we were leaving. Brief interaction, but he seemed like a good dude.

LOL. Still at it, huh? Do you cut and paste a version of this every fucking week?

Now, I think they bring back Wade.

Plus Ford had a good 2019. Bruce hasn't done much in the last few seasons.
It was a really, really stupid decision to carry Bruce over Ford.
