Peloton has a safety key and if you aren't utilizing it, that's strike 1 against the owner. Strike 2 is you shouldn't have your kids playing on the equipment int he first place. That's machines, weights, etc.

but what makes the peloton one different then other treadmills. I always figured a treadmill was something you want to keep your kids and pets away from.
we have the Bike and my 5 year old knows not to climb on it. Its a hard no under any circumstances, she knows she will be in trouble if she does. We also don't have it in an area where she plays (I realize this isn't always an option for people but its still no excuse, IMO).

Nothing. It has a key to lock it when not in use and this is why is there.
That said I did watch the video and the back of the treadmill did seem pretty light so maybe it is different in that sense. Still seems like something that can happen on any treadmill though.

That’s true. The Peleton appears to be particularly dangerous because
1) It sits higher off the ground than is typical, thus providing the clearance from the ground to pull large objects underneath.
2) It lacks a rear bar guard that most other treadmills have which block objects from being pulled underneath.

That was my first thought. There should probably also be some kind of automatic shut off when the machine is on and the belt isn't moving because something is stuck in it.
that they provide, its literally two kids playing on the Tread, which is on, with no parent in sight. How in TF does that fall to the manufacturer? Yeah, don't let your kids play on or near a running treadmill.
Why do you post this on every Peloton thread? People 1. don't want to bike outside 2. biking outside requires a longer time commitment to get a workout 3. biking outside isn't an option for many people based on location 4. biking outside sucks in inclement weather which the majority of the country faces (extreme heat or cold).
The peloton design makes it more likely a kid will get seriously injured than a normal treadmill.
While the easy answer is 'parent better', there are things that companies can do to reduce the likeihood of a child death due to a parental mistake. That's why things like gun locks and fences around pools exist.
Point is Peloton isn't completely blameless here, just like they aren't compltely at fault.
RE: It's a terrible design and now they are paying for it
their treadmill different from others? Just curious. Is it lighter?
On the contrary...it's bigger, stronger, higher off the ground, and has a slat design instead of a rubber belt. It's a serious machine.
But also they are king right now...so people going to go after them. Dish Network suing them right now as well for streaming technology patent infringement.
But can't justify the cost. I won't use it as much as the bike...maybe once a week between November and March.
It looks like a fantastic piece of equipment..but clearly poses a safety risk. But I mean...so do pools right?
There’s really no risk at all if you use the locking mechanism, which anyone with a treadmill should use regardless of brand.
I can’t speak to the treadmill for day to day usage but I have the Bike and it’s a fantastic piece of equipment. My wife and I combine to do about 10 rides per week give or take, more than worth the money for us given how little time we have during the work week.
Really bad parenting here.

"or pets" ... not sure your strike 2 applies

Just a guess, but maybe it was a 3rd kid - friend or sibling.
Want exercise? Get on a real bike and go outside.
Doesn't look like the camera ever moved or re-focused or zoomed in or out. Security camera?
Anybody - even another child would have rushed to help the kid or dropped it (another child) and ran for help.

"Why don't you idiots who like to run indoors on a machine get a real bicycle?" asked the resident expert.
If comes with a hot milf.
