He balled out in that playoff game in 2012 vs. the Saints. I was in GB for our playoff game the next day at this brewery not far from the stadium. It was packed with NYG and GB fans all cheering for SF because no one wanted to have to play the. Saints the next week.
as the top pick in the draft, but still a nice career for a very good human being.
Always a reminder that where you go has a huge part in how you will end up. If he swapped teams with Rodgers, he very likely would have been a franchise QB. Had all the physical tools, and didn't play like a game manager his first few years.

But yes, salt of the earth to the highest level.
"where you go..." Oh yes. Mahomes is the best case for this. Walked onto a 13-3 team, inherited from... Alex Smith.
Tom Brady's career started a similar way. So did Romo, Prescott, Roethlisberger, a number of others. I'm sure the examples are numerous. The Jets (and Browns) have been the opposite of this- constantly throwing top-pick QBs onto miserable, bereft teams.
career. Overcome lots of obstacles with the Niners and then coming back from that gruesome injury. Also, like many of these NFL players dedicated his money and time to great charitable causes. Wish him the best and I hope he stays in the game in some capacity.
I am now on a cane, 15 months after surviving septic shock, had last rites, coma, amputation of #2 left toe , and 4 months bed rest with ensuing atrophy, foot drop, tendon and hamstring tightening. All from stepping on a sharp stone at the beach and incurring a bacterial infection. Now walking with a cane. All throughout, Alex was a shining light for me. God bless him.

+1. He had a good career, is one of the greatest comeback stories in the history of sports, and had dedicated a lot of his time and money to charitable causes. Best wishes Alex.
Thanks for the kind words. While not having the resources that Alex had, his 2 hr fight gave me hope. Said to myself, if that guy can do it, so will I. When in the midst of it, not achieving goals looks like a dismal future. Alex Smith won't stop, he will find a new game to compete in. What a inspiration he could be as a college coach.
Seeing him play was probably terrifying for his family.

I'm sure he can still be connected to Football somehow if he wants to.

Knowing the type of person he is, no matter what he endeavors, it will be done with class and integrity.
Top shelf human being who can say he did the next to impossible by returning from such a catastrophic injury and actually playing an NFL game.
We need more Alex Smith’s walking around this earth, that’s for sure. Best of luck in his next chapter!
Wow. Sorry to hear, but glad you made it, Joe.
