watching the Giants Cowboys game last year where the announcers were gushing about what a great comeback story he was. He didnt come back from an injury, he came back from something like 8 separate arrests! Fuck the Cowboys
gushing over him is that Jay Glazer worked with him in his "comeback". That seems a tad biased in reporting and very much glossed over just how badly he was running his life. Some people change habits but very few change their core being!

That was sickening. Collinsworth not only praised Smith, but did it several times during the night. I think Al Michaels actually said some horseshit like "Smith's had some troubles that we won't detail, but it is good to see the comeback story playing out tonight".

...but every year Jones gives very generously to The Salvation Army. I honestly think he does this to 1.) be a good person, 2.) help people in need, and 3.) reap the benefits of good press stemming from his generosity.
I cannot escape the thought that if my theories are correct, he wants to have the same effects on wayward players. Aldon Smith, Randy Gregory, even Jaylen Smith (injury) and probably several others.
It’s not for me to say what his motives are. I will choose to believe they are benign in nature. Taking a risk on multi-million dollar athletes again and again is remarkable, actually. But they are almost always high-risk / high reward scenarios, and that is a tough road to hoe.

Great Point. I remember that bullshit the NFL was shoveling down our throats.

Yup. It was nauseating.
That said, he is a Hall of Fame-type talent. Even missing all that time, he was still a great pass rusher. One of the best I've ever seen.

This Bothered me too. You can’t come up with any other story lines or shit to talk about instead you have to pump this guy up? Announcers can be really stupid sometimes.
He’s got a long history of trouble, so this is hardly surprising. But like the other have mentioned, shame on the NFL and its guys in the broadcast booth for trying to paper over his troubles. I like a come back as much as the next guy but I remember thinking that there were some flags around the Smith story they were all pushing. Anyway, hopefully he gets his act together finally before he causes some more lasting harm.
RE: As a Giant fan we cannot like Jerrah or DAL...

He wants to win. Idiots can usually be signed cheaply.
Everyone in the NFL can play at a high level, even the guys who just don't make it play at a high level. Character, work ethic, etc., is a big differentiator. This is why teams don't just look at talent, unlike fans.
fuck guys, did you guys actually read the article?

LT and Dave Meggett would like a word. If anything, Aldon Smith demonstrates that character doesn’t mean anything if you have enough talent. I like the idea that character matters. In my experience? It’s a consolation prize.
Dude looked like he was on the path to Canton @ the start of his career. What a waste of talent.
He was absolutely.
As good as any edge rusher the last decade plus. That sack/fumble recovery he had on Russell Wilson to start the 2013 NFC Championship Game was one of the very best defensive plays I've ever seen in my life. LT-esque.
Add Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy to the list. It’s not as though Jerry Jones takes these guys under his wing and leads them to enlightenment, sobriety, or salvation. For the most part, he picks them up off the scrap heap and dumps them there after a year or two of football. Low risk, high reward is the theory, though most of the bets don’t pay off.
The TE (Zach Miller, I think) released Smith, giving him a free run at Wilson, who rolled toward Smith and then fumbled trying to switch hands.
A signature LT play would involve beating the left tackle, steamrolling the running back and stripping the QB from the blindside. Oh, and the rollout would be in the other direction, so Taylor would have to sprint forty yards before a violent collision that ended the quarterback’s career. Then he would have sent two hookers and some coke to the opposite sideline as a conciliatory gesture.
a leader.

That was some absolute horseshit.

Talented and Troubled. Sorry for all involved.

I honestly dont care either way but you guys really need to educate yourself before stating your opinion.

At least that’s how I remember it. Good times.
