I have no idea what to make of Trey Lance, and frankly neither does anyone. The guy has barely played. The prospect of another Patrick Mahomes is enough for teams to make that leap though with regards to Lance. A lot of rumors have WFT being very high on Lance. That, coupled with this tweet from Rapaport - maybe they could pull off a trade to get him.

The #Dolphins have already made two moves in the NFL Draft and they may not be done yet: Sources say they’ve received calls from teams looking to trade up to No. 6 and it is something they’re considering. Lot of things in play, but Miami could be at it again. |
I’m indifferent as a Giant fan, chances are Lance is middle of the road at best. It’ll be interesting to see if WFT can pull it off.
2) Washington has very suspect OL and they will be giving up picks that could have fixed that
And the old regime drafted Haskins. It's an entirely new regime at WFT right now.
If (name of NFC East Rival) gets (Player X) does that make you nervous/upset/worried, etc?
No it doesn't.
I expect all our rivals will get a good pick in RD-1 and so will the Giants.

It's a draft. Everybody gets to pick players. Even if you pick first overall, everybody else gets to pick guys, too.
The WFT might draft a promising QB prospect. So? Why be nervous? It's up to the Giants to draft well and put together a good team. The other teams will do what they do.
So - WTF can do whatever they want in the draft and roll the dice on Lance. We need to get a player that helps the team win with our pick (preferably IMO an offensive lineman).
Trading to 6 would cost a lot, but I've seen plenty of mocks where he makes it to the Pats at 15. So a trade up to 14 wouldn't keep them from building a team around him. Which sadly they already have a pretty good team.

Bad post? Why?
unless they are just working on that contingency just in case
Actually it's not. Lawrence won a NC as a true Frosh along w about a million more reps at a much higher level. Can Lance be a stud? Sure. But worry. Geez. Schedule heat QBs get drafted in are 1. Mahomes is literally the only one on the last 5 years who has he truly special. Not even Watson has shown to be a true top 5 guy.
Can't lose sleep over this one just yet
If i were a GM I would build my offensive line Before drafting my QB and for several reasons. I would want the QB to be effectively immediately while he's on a rookie contract; so he would have to be the final piece not the first. And two, I wouldn't want him to lose confidence and develop loose feet. Three ..injury.
We just saw what a crappy line did to a superbowl winning QB and how it compromised Jones's game.
Fitzpatrick scares me next year. He's been so many places that he should acclimate quickly and i think he's a decent QB. He doesn't occupy immense cap space. Give him help and with that front seven on D. they could be tough.
competition.
2. WFT has been the one team we have consistently owned no matter what they do. Until they start beating our lowly team regularly, I'm not worried. I don't buy into their hype.
Philly might be there too, jury is still out on Jalen Hurts
Dan Snyder buys out minority owners, now owns 100% of WFT - ( New Window )
Let WFT go for it, if it works out, good for them.

And where are we?

The Giants are in QB Hope. It's somewhere between Heaven and Hell and the roads signs are somewhat confusing.
- played one season, and that was over a year ago
- he played 1 game I believe this season
- he played in 1-AA (now FCS)
- his team was dominant against extremely weak talent. Its like a big powerhouse High School program played a school half their size
- not one of his opponents will sniff the NFL
- the only FBS program to offer him was Rutgers (yes that Rutgers)
Who the hell knows if this guy will be good. Yes he has skills. Based on this I would not be using a 1st rd pick on the guy
Lance could be very good, or not. If Washington decides to pay up for that lottery ticket, so be it. The odds will be against him, just as they are against almost every rookie QB. It will be more fun to watch him than a retread like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Case Keenum or Alex Smith (amazing comeback aside).
It would actually be good as that would mean for the next year or two he might struggle while NYG are loading up for playoffs
The difference is Lance's program was a big fish in a small pond and Jones' program was a small fish in a big pond.
The book is still out on Jones. I see Lance as having a similar start.
I'd be willing to see how that went.
Jones came into the League with three solid seasons of experience. Lance played one year, back in 2019. Competition level aside (like struggling against Illinois State in his last game), the biggest question about Lance is his thin resume.
I realize Jones plays faster than his 4.8 from the combine, but he's not a 4.55 guy like Lance. And by most accounts, Lance has a stronger arm, even at this early stage. I doubt you will see many draftniks mentioning Jones as a comp for Lance.
From purely a "what do they show up with" standpoint, they seem to have a similar skillset to me.
End thread.
