#1 thing I took away from this. Also, he feels like a guy who will push the narrative he hears from Giants execs/scouts. If that’s the case, it backs up the Giants liking Kwity Paye a lot.

He’s such an interesting athlete. I’m trying to convince myself more and more every day that he’d be a great pick. There’s definitely a lot to like about him. But will it translate into A/A+ impact, I’m not sure. I think he still has a ways to go rushing the passer from the edge.

I simply feel like Phillips is better than Ojulari. I know the injury history but I feel like the difference in their ceiling is pretty big. Ojulari could be a nice piece, Phillips could be our version of the Bosas. It’s worth the risk imo.
He’s definitely not a fan of Gregory Rousseau

He may be pushing a narrative...

However, he was clear at the end that drafting any of them at 11 is too rich. He would wait until the 2nd or even the 3rd.

Phillips is the best pure edge in the class, but has the injury flag. Kwity Paye is more a hybrid on where you can play him on situation and his floor is very high because of what you know he gives against the run, getting around the edge, and making a huge jump in his pass rush moves from 19 to 20. That last part I like a lot. I think there's a good chance he hits his ceiling due to the way he takes to coaching and can focus on his pass rush moves from the outside.

I like Ojulari and think he can make a difference right away, but he's limited and really should be talked about late first early second, but getting hyped because the edge class is all over the place.

We’re mostly on the same page.

I’m a little less high on Paye’s edge psss rushing potential but I do see the overall ceiling there. He truly stands out when you watch him play.

Ojulari over Phillips would be a mistake imo

A couple of things to think about in regards to Ojulari:

1: he played really well in the SEC. went against some of the best competition in the country
2: He is a scheme fit. Plays in a 2 or 3 point stance naturally. Can drop into flat. He is the type of player the Giants were hoping Carter and Ximines would be. Bendy, quick and relentless
3: He was the only freshmen team captain in UGA history
4: he has good size but it’s he arm length that makes him like a larger player. 34” arms for a 6’2.5” 250 lbs OLB is kind of rare.
5: Giants LB coach used to coach at UGA. They know a lot about him
6: he had been healthy for his college career
7: Chris Petitt attended UGA pro day.

So, while none of this guarantees he is the target even in a trade down, it makes more sense than most think.
My concern w edge
WillVAB : 4/20/2021 10:05 pm : link
Is that I can see a run on edge players from around 20 until the Giants are on the clock in round 2. If that happens then they’ll have to kick the can down the road until 22 and roll the dice with the collection of JAGs currently on the roster. Not ideal imv.

Trading down or taking an edge at 11 is the best option even if it may be a “reach” at 11. There’s a handful of really intriguing edge guys in this class and they’re going to continue to be in edge hell if they don’t bite the bullet and take a chance in the draft.
For the same reasons Edge’s are a risk at 11

Many other teams may feel the same later on in the first round as well. Maybe they also go with safer picks at OL, WR ans DBs. And maybe we won’t have to trade up as far to get one.
I think Paye fits what Judge/Graham like to do.
