Sy'56's 2021 NFL Rookie Evaluations Organized

robbieballs2003 : 4/26/2021 8:59 am
First off, a huge thank you, again, to Sy'56 for his contributions and permission for this spreadsheet/webpage.

I have taken all of his information that he has posted to BBI and combined it all into a spreadsheet/webpage.

I have created tabs for:

-Grading Scale: Sy's grading scale with a link to Ourlads

-Rows (Grade): Lists all players in a grid/row based on position/grade to help get a better understanding of where the strength lies in this draft. This also totals up the number of players with 1st round grades, 2nd round grades, etc. Players will be crossed out in real-time (hopefully).

-Rows (Team): Lists all players in a grid/row based on position/team to help get a better understanding of how teams are distributing their picks. This is also a great way to compare and analyze the players drafted from one team to another, particularly within the same division.

-Teams Summary: This organizes all the picks in the draft by each team just based on the round the players were drafted.

-Best Remaining: A list of the top-rated players available during the draft by grade with Sy's evaluations.

-Best Remaining (No Notes): This is the same as the Best Remaining tab but minus the evaluations for a quicker, easier glance at the players.

-Drafted: A list of all players that were drafted by pick (ascending)

-Latest Picks: A list of all players drafted by pick (descending)

-All: A list of all players with Sy's evaluations (drafted players will have a strikethrough)

-All (No Notes): The same as the All tab minus the evaluations for a quicker, easier glance at the players. (drafted players will have a strikethrough)

-Pro-Day Results: This is an imported list of players from Pro-Football Reference that lists players' names, positions, schools, heights, weights, 40 times, verticals, number of bench presses, broad jumps, 3-cone times, and shuttle times.

-There are tabs per position group: All positions will have all players that were graded (drafted players will have a strikethrough)

-There are tabs per team: This will list all players drafted by that particular team

My goal is to be updating this while the draft is going on to keep this in real-time. I know for a fact that I cannot update this on Saturday as I will be unavailable all day.

I hope this gets pinned during the draft. I wanted to give everybody a heads up and also help check for any errors prior to the draft. Any constructive criticism or suggestions are welcome. One suggestion last year was to have multiple grades from multiple resources. I appreciate that and think it would be cool but this spreadsheet is already complicated enough. That isn't the purpose of this spreadsheet. I look at this spreadsheet as a way to help follow the draft to give quick feedback for draft picks, while also having a decent understanding of what players are left. It isn't perfect. It doesn't have every pick in the draft. However, I respect the work that Sy does and I am thankful for what he provides to this site and NYG fans.

CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR:

1. I "published" the spreadsheet on Google. There was a problem last year during the draft with people not being able to get access. Google Sheets limits the number of people on the spreadsheet to 100 people. I tried publishing it last year but not all the tabs showed up last year so I decided against that. This year when I published it all the "tabs" show up at the top of the webpage.

Just some notes with this. I tried bringing this up on my phone (android) and you really have to put it in desktop mode to make it easier to operate. Also, when it is on my phone the number of tabs stops at TEN(nesse). I don't know why. However, on my laptop, I have no issues. I have not tried an iPhone nor iPad. Maybe someone can give me feedback on that.

2. I added a few more tabs. Some of those were the ones with (No Notes) just to make it an easier guide to see all the players or what players still remain.

3. On the Rows (Grade) tab, last year I waited until all the players were drafted in a box (row and position) before crossing out the whole box. After the draft was over I figured out a better way. Each pick as it is entered will be crossed off on this sheet to make it accurate and up to date.

4. Since this is a webpage it says it is updated every 5 minutes. I have no idea how true/accurate this is. You may have to hit refresh on the page to make sure it is as up-to-date as possible. But when you click on the link or refresh the page it takes like 10 seconds to load the page.

P.S.

1. I had to rearrange the order of some of the tabs to get some "page breaks" so that you can view all the tabs on the web page.

2. I will definitely need someone to help on Saturday. I am posting this today as I am extremely busy and I am hoping to look back at this when I can to contact someone to help. Thanks for all that offer.

Thank you and enjoy.

didn't notice until seeing it in this format but there looks to be a lack of 2nd round grades this year. Is that normal? Only 3 less players than last year but interesting nonetheless.
Thanks Robbie

Do we have anything like this from the past years? even if its not as organized as this, it would be useful.

Thanks

This is a great job

Thank you very much. I like to have a hard copy of the top ranked players without comments. So, I copied all the 80 and above ranked players into Excel, widened the Last name and school columns, shortened other columns, shrunk the rows into a single line, made a wide Team column, then printed it on a single landscape page using fit onto 1 page.

Your hard work made it a very easy job to convert to what I wanted.
Thank you

maybe this will help people understand more how teams look at players and they dont necessarily rank them 1-50 like the draft pundits do.
This is fantastic, thanks

It's basically a Sy Database

I am so thankful to Robbieballs for this. It adds nice value to the whole draft experience.

On the issue of too many users during last draft; would making multiple copies of the file help? Publish them at unique URLs.

I know this doesn't solve the issue of real time updates during the draft (team selections), but not everyone needs that necessarily. Some will use it as a reference guide.
Thanks for the kind words everybody.
I still need a volunteer for Saturday.

The issue is where does it end? How many people wanted on last year? 200? 300? I feel the web based one that I am doing this year solves these issues. And having multiple sheets would require more work.

It is a good question. I don't have that answer. Hopefully Sy can answer that.
This is great...

Great work

And it points out the baselessness of the argument that Paye is not worth the 11 pick. He basically has the same grade as a lot of the players people are touting at 11.
Awesome stuff, as always, Robbie...

Question: What is the difference between 'Rows/Grade' and 'Rows/Team'? Asking the question a different way, how can you know/anticipate the draft rows for any/all teams?

The Rows/Teams tab puts all the players drafted by that particular team into the rows (grades) based on Sy's rating. Check out the 2020 link to check it out.
Oh, sorry, that isn't what it is.
robbieballs2003 : 4/28/2021 10:00 am : link
It just groups them by position based on teams. I find it useful to see what areas teams have targeted and where they could go based off of needs. It is also nice to see how a team does overall in certain areas compared to the other teams within the division.

That's awesome. It is cool during the draft as well. Thursday and Friday I'll be on pick for pick. I can't do Saturday though. I'm still hoping someone volunteers to help out for Saturday.
Thank you!
