DG said something in his presser, which I will paraphrase

plato : 4/27/2021 3:19 pm
be cause I think it s a guide to who the Giants will pick at 11. DG said he tries to get the players his coaches want.

Garret as the O coordinator may very well have a say in who #11 is. As coach at Dallas both as a HC and OC those teams strength was a great offensive line, a large number of very good receivers, and an outstanding rb. To duplicate on the Giants we have an outstanding rb, but could use help on the O line to continue to improve it, could use another great wr, & perhaps TE. So depending on who falls to #11 it will be either WR or O line as I suspect the one outstanding TE will be gone, if not TE will be the choice.

Who has more value an underweight but amazing WR from Alabama or an OL? I don’t know but that decision is the crucial, one for the giants on Thursday. Trade is not impossible but past history says no. My guess is Judge and Garret go for Devonta Smith Alabama WR, multiple skills & amazing WR who has ST skills so he will have an immediate impact in spite being “undersize.”

tiers of players. If the Giants are looking at 11 and see two players with a similar grade, let's say a guard and WR, they will let the player slide that comes from a deeper pool of talent and can usually be had in the latter rounds to begin with. That player is guard.

If it's edge and WR. Same rules likely apply. If there are 10 edge players all with a ranking above 75 or so, and only 5 WRs, they will take the WR early.

It's all about their draft board. The draft doesn't end after pick 11.
I could believe there's something to "We owe it to garrett to give him
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/27/2021 3:23 pm : link
some offensive pieces" after last season. They don't want to be pressed to make a change at OC for underperformance when they know they didn't hand him a great offensive roster.
Is Patrick Graham not a coach

?
Smith and maybe Waddle are the best match of need and value
BillT : 4/27/2021 3:30 pm : link
And there are good valued OL talent going to be available in rounds 2 and 3. The edge guys aren’t generally projected to have as good a value at 11. Maybe in the 2nd but the run on them seems like it’s going to be in the mid 1st. At least that’s the best we can tell which is pretty much guesswork.
Don't you think all GMs consult

with the coaching staff about who they are going to draft? It's not like it's an amazing concept that nobody else has thought of.

Are a bit raw.
Hopefully..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/27/2021 3:44 pm : link
we pick a player who doesn't "walk badly".

That's the key!!
We know Dave's penchant for hog mollies....
MOOPS : 4/27/2021 4:09 pm : link
and we know that Devonta Smith is roughly the equivalent of only half a hog molly.
Does that make it less likely that we draft Smith?

And, they won how many championships?
Kinda piling on

with the ball busting here, but... yeah, seems he could just as well have been talking about Graham as Garrett and the whole premise is not exactly newsy rocket science.
Good thread

I'm not sure Garrett would want Smith.
FStubbs : 4/27/2021 7:56 pm : link
I'd think Garrett would want an offensive lineman.

Thats the plan.
I wonder what coach wanted DG to draft Saquon Barkley

instead of Josh Allen.

The deeper pool is the WR.

It's just that Smith is probably graded higher than Slater.

Let's not over-complicate this.
The dumbest thing this organization
GMen72 : 4/27/2021 10:43 pm : link
can do is listen to Jason Garrett. He gave up his playcalling duties in Dallas to keep his HC gig. Cowgirl fans were thrilled when he was given his walking papers and wanted it to happen years earlier. Garrett was a terrible hire and should have been let go after his QB threw for 12 TDs in 15 games.
