NFT: Great italian restaurants in either Morris/Monmouth cty NJ?

NJBlueTuna : 4/27/2021 8:14 pm
The best pasta thread has me thinking of whether there are any gem Italian restaurants in either Monmouth or Morris counties NJ? And what is there best dish?

I am not talking Olive Garden, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Last time I was in NJ...I hit up Vic's in Bradley Beach & Federici's in Freehold. Great pizza. Can't speak to the rest of the food unfortunately.

Resevoir Tavern Boonton
Forte Randolph

The Pasta Shop in Denville

Yelp included it in their "Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021", which covers the entire country. For good reason, excellent food and the owner is a class act. Only drawback, small place and can be hard to get a table.
Jimmy’s in Asbury Park

Also Brando’s in Asbury Park as well.

I have been to reservoir tavern and thought it was ok. There pizza is supposedly famous but wasn’t impressed

Pasta Shop I had heard amazing things about (including takeout) but haven’t made my way there yet.

I like the pizza but not a large...its too messy. I find the bar pie or a medium pie is much better then the large.

Agree on Vic’s in Bradley Beach. My son lives there and we go there quite a bit. Good Italian for sure.

It is very good. We get food from there about twice a month. Lol
Portofino's in Morristown
GruningsOnTheHill : 4/27/2021 10:22 pm : link
I haven't been there in 30 years, though I see it still gets good reviews online. Bruno was the original owner, and he made the best meat sauce I've ever had--it had a touch of fennel.
Birravino in Red Bank
regulator : 4/27/2021 10:37 pm : link
it's not a traditional "red sauce" joint, definitely not at all old school, but very good (real) Italian in a more casual, bar-oriented setting. High quality ingredients, many imported from Italy, and as good an Italian wine list as anywhere in the state. The owner, Vic Rallo, is the real deal... also a Giants fan and runs a nice tailgate at the stadium.

His other place, Undici in Rumson, is excellent as well but I prefer the vibe at Birravino. A matter of preference as the food at Undici is outstanding.

A few other picks in Monmouth:

- Trama's Trattoria, Long Branch
- Brando's, Asbury Park
- Anjelica's, Sea Bright (BYOB)

ate there last month after my Uncle's funeral. Very good, nice staff.

Sergio's...there is a half hour wait typically to get a sandwich, but worth the wait. They have grab and go meals, cheeses and sliced meats, and cater also. Everything I have ever had there is top notch.
