NFT: Tauchman trade to SF Giants

Victor in CT : 4/28/2021 7:43 am
for journeyman reliever Wandy Veralta. Tyler "no hit" Wade brought up.

not a major move, but I don't like this. I liked Tauchman. Oh well.
Yankees trade Mike Tauchman to Giants for reliever Wandy Peralta - ( New Window )
All about the option

they need pices to go up and down
Your 5th outfielder needs to sent down once in a whole to shuffle Bullpen arms.

And really its been 2 years since he was good and even then it was by surprise.
I liked Tauchman too

but he really has stopped hitting. We have one of those already in Wade and he can play about 6 positions well.
To me..

it is one of those insignificant moves that will move the needle little either way.

A mediocre player for a mediocre reliever.
Tauchman was an easy guy to root for
bigbluehoya : 4/28/2021 8:49 am : link
but it seems clear that the org didn't think much of him. If they didn't find a way to get him into the lineup during this recent stretch of complete ineptitude, it was never going to happen.

Peralta has good stuff and several options left. Good guy to have in the "shuttle" group with Deivi/King/Nelson/Abreu/etc. With the 10-day waiting period before a guy can be called back up, it's nice to have some numbers in that group of guys that are MLB-ready.

I'm not excited to see Tauchman go, but I really don't see a lot to get upset about with this one. This is part of the roster management game that many fans don't fully appreciate.
Once Gardner came back he wasn't needed

and his hitting dropped off to below replacement level.
I don't like the move either.

This is Gardy's last season. Tauchman could have been the 4th OF next year, and he's got all the tools to do it. The only problem is his batting average, but that's a team-wide and MLB-wide problem right now so you can't really penalize him for it.

And who do they plan to use in his place next season? Florial has yet to prove anything, and all their other supposed prime OF prospects are behind him. It's not like they have anyone pushing him. Yeah, they can sign somebody. But will he be as versatile as Tauchman who can play well at all 3 OF spots, hit for some power, and steal bases? Probably not.

Fire Cashman. Fire Boone. Fire Levine. And fire the battalion of metrics clowns behind them. Get some real leadership for this floundering franchise.

Tauchman is the very definition of replaceable. It'll be ok.

God help any franchise that can't find a journeyman outfielder to match the rarefied abilities of Mike Tauchman.
I have

Been saying for awhile, I would have platooned Tauchman and Hicks against righty’s. Tauchman was really never given a chance. I would have liked to see him play like 3 consecutive games so he might get into a groove. Hicks before last night’s game was hitting 104 against righty’s.
