making margaritas? or just going to chill it and do some shots/sip it?
If making margaritas or other mixed drink I'm less inclined to spend on good tequila but if you're chilling it, and hanging out on the deck drinking some shots or even sipping it then absolutely worth the better tequila.
both for mixing and chilled on its own, typically can be had around $25. Will be making my own jalapeño tequila with it for a cinco de Mayo block party next week.
to sip is DJ 1942. But it's expensive and really needs to be savored in moderation.
If you're looking for a cheaper option to sip or on the rocks DJ Blanco is a great choice.
And if you're mixing into something like a margarita or sunrise, just buy any of the Cuervos that fit your cocktail. Don't spend a ton of money on something you're really just using for alcohol content.
Cannot have this discussion without a price point.
I actually used to stock up on Costco tequila for mix shit when I lived on beach. Great value buy for mixed drinks. They say it's 100 agave, but man does it have some terrible taste straight.
are on the cheaper side so I'd imagine that's his pricepoint, around $30. Personally Id rather spend a tad extra for those over Cuervo and decrease my odds at a hangover.
El Jimador Anejo Tequila.
This is my flyfishing buddies favorite tequila he always bring a bottle flyfishing and he puts the bottle on ice and we do shots with lime and salt washed down with Sierra Nevada Pale Ales. It is widely available and gets high ratings on website tequila reviews.
i like it well enough.
you can go to Total Wine and More and find higher priced tequilas.
I'll go with that unless there is a screaming deal on another 100% de agave. Kirkland or anything else 100% de agave is great for mixing. The darker, the more the more "Tequilla" taste.
People say it's over priced and cliched but Patron Silver chilled is still my go to. I find it very smooth and every time someone says "oh that's shit you need to try this..." - the one I try just isn't as smooth as Patron Silver - even if people try and want it to be.
but I do like casamigo blanco (the Clooney one too). it is very affordable and great for sipping/shots.
Jose Cuervo Reserva De La Familia Extra Anejo is a close second.
+1 for Clase Azul Reposado. I had some on Saturday, excellent. I'm not a huge tequila drinker, but I will have to look for JC Reserve now too. Is it around the same price point as Clase Azul?
Blanco for margs or if I'm making a stiff rocks drink with a small splash of club soda and a lime.
Reposado for sipping either up or rocks. sometimes also a very small splash of soda in that as well.
I'm don't consider myself much of a price snob on most of my booze decisions....but tequila is one area where I have found pricetag to be a pretty solid indicator of what you are getting.
sipping or for mixing. If it's for sipping, Don Julio Anejo is my go-to. If you're mixing, Kirkland is fine, or Jose Cuervo, but I wouldn't drink either neat.
I haven't tried Epsolon yet but Olmeca is about the same price. The Repo and Anejo are good enough to sip and not too expensive to mix. El Mayor is another good bargain but it's harder to find.

So, what's your goal?

she likes Clooney's tequila Casamigos
Hmmm, i'm intrigued. Total Wines doesn't look like they stock it near me but i'll be on the lookout for it elsewhere.
Espolon is probably my go to for every day

Really though you should’ve be going for mezcal, that’s where it’s at.
