Stay on the east side. Allen and Plano from the north, Richardson itself, or some Dallas neighborhoods along 75 at Lovers Lane, Mockingbird, Lake Highlands etcetc
Parts of Richardson are some of the busiest areas in Dallas. Plano would be closer than Las Colinas. Another area to look at is Addison and the nicer parts of Carrolton. Frisco and McKinney are north of Plano (you want to stay on the West side of HWY 75 if staying in Plano, the further west the better) and much nicer but pricier.
Stay completely away from Garland (to the east of Richardson) it's a rough area
North Dallas around Preston Rd and Hillcrest Rd are both close to Richardson and in the very good Richardson school district. North of Plano is Allen which is a very good place to live off of 75.
