Starting a pearls clutching bitching thread about OL

GiantSteps : 10:34 pm
I could roll with everything until the third rd. This is ridiculous. I know the draft isn’t over yet but we are miles away from anyone who could possibly be an upgrade over what we’ve got.
Way more of a need at OL than CB, especially considering how our division rivals are loading up on their d lines and linebackers.

Sorry but I can’t help but feel this was a big time miss in rd 3

Wasting more draft capital on DBs with average speed is a waste of picks. How many picks have we used in DBs in the last 3 years and still have to get starters in FA? At some point, just have to accept you suck at drafting CBs.

Maybe that's true, but fortunately the Giants used their draft capital on a guy with exemplary speed.
I really wanted an OL
jeff57 : 10:41 pm : link
But Robinson is a good player.

Still, those who say not taking an OL the first two days is no better g deal will be in no position to complain if the QB is near the league lead in sacks and there are no holes open for Barkley for another season.

You're catching on...Oline, WR, LB and ER (not that we really draft those), TE...lots of patterns. Maybe it's time for a new GM?

A 6-10 teams needs definite improvement. I don't see a homerun pick anywhere...just more of the same. At least the "one more year" BS ends this year.

Sean O'Hara - undrafted
Rich Seubert - undrafted
David Diehl - 5th round
Kevin Boothe - 6th round

Kareem McKenzie - 3rd round - #79

Chris Snee - early 2nd round pick

Will Beatty - late 2nd round

David Baas - early 2nd round

2 Super Bowls with that group

I'm not really sweating it.

HAHA. You completely missed the point. You are getting annoyed that they didn't draft for the OL because "we suck at drafting DBs". We have sucked at drafting OL for years but that didn't stop us last year and thank god it didn't.
Notable that Sy projected edge and DB

We all saw the reports we really liked Vera-Tucker in round 1, but just bc the draft didn’t fall that way doesn’t mean we should force a need pick

Using one outlier where their 2 best OL got hurt before the game like happened to KC in the Super Bowl doesn’t prove your point.

Am I the only one who thought the guys we drafted last year really started to gel the 2nd half of the season? We drafted Thomas, Peart and Lemieux and all 3 were coming together. And we have depth and starting solutions at the other interior spots. IMO the 3 picks so far were at bigger positions of need.

I know we are all conditioned to think our line is awful but it isn’t. It’s young and ascending.
Hey Eric
GiantSteps : 10:56 pm : link
I truly hope you’re right, but most of our o line picks over the past few years never showed that improvement you speak of. Yes, I’m optimistic about Sale and our overall coaching staff (mostly), but I think CB was deep enough for this year.
Can’t say I feel the same about our o line. I think Thomas and Gates will advance. Optimistic and hopeful for Peart. Hernandez is a ??? and has not advanced, and while I hope it works out for Lemieux...sure, ok. And who’s behind all those guys?

It’s true. They are in the process of developing and improving. Plus, they invested tons in teachers to amp and accelerate that development. Every action they’ve taken suggests that, if a really good player was there they would take him, but otherwise they’re okay with what they have enough to stay with their board.

So you want to draft more young offensive linemen who . you don't think will improve here? That doesn't make sense. You either believe in the coaches or you don't.

Nate Solder is the back-up tackle. Fulton, Lemieux, or Hernandez will be the back-up guard. Harrison is the back-up center. I have a depth chart. You can look at it.

They will add another OL in this draft at some point too. They will only activate 7 OL's at most on gameday.

It doesn’t matter why KC’s line sucked in the SB, but the fact that it did injury, or not. The line sucked, and so did the team, and the Giants are nowhere the talant KC is.

This can't be overstated.....esp with players like Thomas and Peart.

It's reasonable to expect both players to improve with experience/age, particularly in their second year.

Look at your posts. Which is it? They like who they have or it was some bullshit value play?

This organization has been notoriously bad at scouting and drafting OL since Accorsi left. They’ve consistently overrated their guys (see Reese’s comments when they passed on Whitworth in FA and Ramcyk in the draft).

This current group is questionable at best and Gates/Hernandez are entering contract years. This is the time to add talent to the trenches and make it a strength.

HUMPTY Dumpty can’t be fixed.
I have faith in the coaches
GiantSteps : 11:06 pm : link
But not sure I have faith in our starting guards or our depth if guys start getting hurt.
What I’m saying is we have had the option of taking OL with decent floors
and passed up on them. I’d say our trade backs in rd 1 and 2 were definitely worth it. No complaints there. But certainly Meinerz or Cleveland could’ve been taken to give Lemieux some competition in 3.
Maybe we get one of those guys tomorrow, but we’re pretty far from the top of the round, where I suspect they’ll go.

Hey it’s not like I *want* the line to stink up the joint.
