mentioned a blood clot issue with Smith. Perhaps the reason he’s slipping?
He has a history of blood clots in his lungs (had it twice), but apparently he's 100% healthy (played every game the last two years) and there doesn't seem to be any indication that it'll be a future problem.
Then again, I'm not a doctor

Levi Onwuzurike, with an all-timer of a quote: "I like fucking people up. I like to get off the line and just put my helmet or my hands on an offensive lineman and fuck up an offensive scheme, pretty much. I like pushing 'em back 2, 3 yards and just making 'em feel like shit."

Yeah, it is. He had to sit out some of his sophomore year (IIRC), but I believe he made it his mission to be around the team and at least practice. He's an exceptional kid, who Pruitt loves.
is undoubtedly slipping because of his blood clots. Ian Rapoport reported on the NFL Network that Cox recently had shoulder surgery.
I'd like to see "Trader Dave" trade down again and get at least one more pick. There is some real talent left on the board, and we have poor depth at a number of positions.

Even though Smith had these lung clot issues, he still played last year and started every game. He's a baller on and off the field and he could compete for a starting job here on Day 1.
And can we do what we did yesterday with regard to spoiling picks????
Post the link to the tweet, not the actual tweet. For those who want to have the pick spoiled, they can click the link. For those (like me) who don't want the pick to be spoiled, we simply just don't click the link.

True, but not having a 7th rounder gives you extra time to recruit potential UDFAs
I'd actually rather use the 6th to trade up for players in the 4th or 5th. Why draft a bunch of guys today who get cut at the end of camp v. getting one or two targeted guys early who'll make the roster and then focus on the UDFAs?

RE: Smith is absolutely worth the risk at this point
often draft lesser known players from smaller schools on day three, but I wonder if that's going to happen this year because of the pandemic. I assume that the pandemic curtailed the ability to scout players from smaller schools. Teams may therefore be more inclined to draft players from well known schools, and try and sign those from smaller schools as UDFAs.

tweeted “will never forget” last night as if to say he’s gonna make some teams regret passing up on him. Looks like he has a pre existing lung condition. And he chose to play in 2020. Go get this guy.

Giants take Elerson Smith, an edge rusher from Northern Iowa. He was first-team All-American in 2019 but opted out of spring season in 2020. Dane Brugler says some scouts are intrigued with him as a tight end. #Giants
The two remaining picks have to be Offense IMO....
That is an exciting pick. This was one of the guys I was hoping the Giants could somehow nab, for some reason I thought he was projected to go higher. His pro day was unbelievable. Great pick.
The 6-foot-7 and 270-pound Smith ran a 4.71 40-yard dash minutes after he wowed the group with a 41.5 inch vertical leap and a 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump.
Still don't understand how a guy with those dimensions can jump like that..unreal.

Those scouts should be fired! The guy had 14 sacks in 2019.

UNI’s Elerson Smith jumped 41.5″ vert, 127″ broad at his Pro Day, and benched 225 lbs 26 times with 33 1/4″ arms That vertical may be in the 99th percentile, broad 93rd for EDGE, that’s some freaky lower body explosiveness He also ran a 4.69 at 6’6 1/2″ weighing 262 pounds!
Smith added 63 tackles and 21.5 tackles for loss on the year, marking one of the best single-season performances in UNI history. He also contributed 14 quarterback hits, 4 pass breakups and 2 blocked kicks on special teams. Smith drastically improved on his sophomore season as he had 19 total tackles and 7.5 sacks for the year.

With his vertical and wingspan, they could certainly see him as a red zone weapon. Double dip!
next year we'll have free agency and a high first round pick – maybe two high ones – to shore it up, again. If the O-line is adequate or better, then we'll have a good season.

If our OL ends up being a weak spot again, and the only guy we wind up adding was Fulton, then we suck at this...
The domestic violence arrest made him irresistible.
If Rico is right about Parsons (Giants had a really harsh description of his issues), combine that with Joseph's issues, then they are taking some chances.
Again, you have to factor in the improvement in the first-year players. Solder also now returns as depth. Fulton was a starter with the Texans.
You either believe in the Giants ability to select the linemen they did last year and develop them or you don't. And if you don't, then why would you want to add more offensive linemen? You wouldn't have confidence in their development either.

Most rookie oline struggle in a normal year. If our line was full of seasoned vets and still stunk ,I would be very worried. There is a very good chance at least 4 of the 5 starters will be 2nd year players(at least second year at their position). The chances are they will get better maybe even much much better both as individual players and as a collective unit.
I like the way it looks like the Giants are staying true to their draft board not forcing picks for need.
Offensive Tackle Josh Ball landed at Butler Comm. College after being removed from FSU after being found responsible for dating violence by a school judicial panel.

makes me believe that's how he talks describes dropping a deuce. "Nah, no, don't stop the clock, I gotta get to the locker room. Gotta drop a mondo duuuuke"
celebrating in the Jets' war room looks contrived.
They don't want to look like the Eagles did yesterday.
I missed that. What happened?
Howie Roseman high-fiving everyone in room and when he got to the Senior Scout, the Scout looked passed and wouldn't shake his hand. I think that's when we jumped them to take the CB.

A clip of their war room came out yesterday following their 3rd rd pick (DT Milton Williams). Howie Roseman was giving everyone fist bumps and their senior scout, Tom Donahoe, looked less than enthused and led to an awkward exchange. While he clearly wasnt psyched about the pick there was speculation that it had something to do with the Giants taking Robinson.
Slater at 13, Samuel at 47, TE, WR, Edge and other needs later as value presents itself. I could have done it if it hadn’t been for those meddling Giants taking Slater at 11.
LAC might have jumped the gun on McKitty, but he’s the developmental TE I took too - albeit much later.
This whole fist bump thing in the draft room is cringy to me.
A friend of mine is pretty close with a the Philly beat writers.
According to them, the people in the Philly FO think he is a bit of a worm. The "football guys" in the FO see him as purely analytics guy always trying to outsmart people. They say it is a pretty toxic atmosphere.

Maybe its been discussed but a bunch of credible people had a 3rd round grade on Trey Smith. His medical must've taken him cemetery off team's board. What have I missed? I dont remember any off field issues.

He played at Alabama and played well. He carried the weight, there is this thing called losing weight. People can actually lose weight. He already proved he can play at 350 for Saban. I think I believe Saban then a draft expert.
There is a blood test that can show you are a high risk for blood clots
I know because I am Factor V Leiden, I am sure he is positive. Once you develop blood clots in your lungs, which is typical for the disease you must be on blood thinners for life. The other place the blood clots develop is in the legs. Maybe a hard hit could cause it. That would scare off teams.

IIRC we had another player on the Giants that developed blood clots and he couldn’t play.
I like Shakur Brown too, and don't count out Deonte Brown simply because of the Alabama connection (that's the same reason I'm thinking Moses is a strong possibility-- I could see the Giants really liking Moses).
Can I just say that I miss Pete Rozelle or Paul Tagliabue and doing this thing in Radio City Music Hall (?) with the fans on the floor and only NFL personnel on stage?
No bands, no homage to cartoon superheroes, no fans sitting in recliners in weird costumes. They have completely destroyed what was an awesome few days for hardcore NFL fans.
I’m barely hanging in with watching and if it wasn’t for BBI and my crazy love for our Gmen, I’d have tuned out by now.
And before you say, old man get off my lawn, I’m only 42 next month.
probably pick two guys nobody here has ever heard of, which is fine. This is the point in the draft when the scouts are banging the table for their guy.

I think he's been Sy's highest remaining day 3 guy since... the start of day 3 (rating = 79 I believe?). Literally. Amazing he made it through rounds 4 and 5 and 6 so far unpicked.

I was at my parents yesterday night watching. My dad, a lifelong giants fan, goes, “Was that a security breach? Did they let some fkn drunk fan on stage?”
I just laughed. I know who Machine Gun Kelly is cause I have some high school friends who are teachers, but uhh yeah. The NFL is killing the longterm hardcore fan with this.

He has blood clot issues. I guess it’s scaring most teams off. I’m assuming he’s not even on the giants board at all if they took Brightwell over him. He would’ve lasted until their next pick.

Damn that’s a shame. Hopefully we bring him in as an UDFA
When you have a propensity for blood clots you go on anticoagulation meds. That means your blood doesn't clot easily. The result is you bruise easily (imagine that when you are being pounded on daily in the NFL in practice and games), and if you get cut and bleed it becomes difficult to stop. And if you get a blood clot, particularly in the lungs, or one that travels to your heart, you can die.
Giants may have used the 6th round picks to get their players that they would have prioritized as undrafted free agents and wanted to make sure they would be there.

OL. I like that the Giants stuck to their board and didn't force a pick. Brightwell and Williams have some skills we can develop and were the highest rated players.

Tbh, his explanations and grades turn me off. They’re all based on where he picked a player in his mock draft rather than some evaluative process. I mean I guess the mock is an evaluative but there’s no real analysis provided other than “I had this guy in the third round when I did my mock do’s A+”
DG said they had their eyes on guys in Rds 2 and 3, but they were gone by our pick (likely Dickerson or Jenkins in 2). They just felt that the OL guys available at the time of their picks were not as good as the guys they took. 7 picks in the first 4 rounds next year - we'll almost certainly be going OL in 2022.

I feel like the Giants rarely get players like that if they dropped significantly. There's probably a reason the Giants haven't drafted him yet.

Carter was a great pick, the Devonta Freeman comps are spot on.
Also really liked Moore and AVT. We'll see how the QB turns out but definitely a lot to like about him
Bunch of Edge still available, to include Elerson, Roche and Weaver who incidentally played well at Senior Bowl.
Derrick Barnes, LB from Purdue is interesting
Need RB depth at some point today too. Theres some intriguing ones out there like Stevenson and Gainwell this round.
Guess not.
Makes me want to trade down even more.
Makes me want to trade down even more.
There still plenty of teams in front of us that could use Oline. Hopefully Smith drops, if that’s who we want.
I said that earlier and I know for a fact that Pruitt absolutely loves the kid.
Trey Smith, didn’t practice all the time. Not sure if I’m on board unless they have a plan for him that allows him to practice.
Bingo

Still don't understand how a guy with those dimensions can jump like that..unreal.
By the end of this thread. Smith will be 290 lb
If teams keep going 3 and out, our offense gets the ball more : )
not to be critical, but did you miss our free agency this off season?
no he's the JPP of edge rushers and maybe TEs combined

Giants take Elerson Smith, an edge rusher from Northern Iowa. He was first-team All-American in 2019 but opted out of spring season in 2020. Dane Brugler says some scouts are intrigued with him as a tight end. #Giants

With his vertical and wingspan, they could certainly see him as a red zone weapon. Double dip!
Because it's yet another footnote that the giants like what they have in their offensive line.
they aren't going to keep 8 OLB.
Btw,can we necer have Jesse Armstead on camera saying things ever again? Who's call was that? I thought he was having a stroke.
Agreed. I think those two get cut after training camp and we roll with 6 edge guys: Ojulari, Smith, Odenigbo, Anderson, Coughlin, and Brown.
Who would have expected three of the first 4 picks to be on D?
Who would have expected three of the first 4 picks to be on D?
Would feel much better if we can get Trai Turner in the house.
You must have hated the 1986 draft.
If our OL ends up being a weak spot again, and the only guy we wind up adding was Fulton, then we suck at this...
What about Hernandez?
Robert Jones
Tommy Doyle
Agree with these
If Rico is right about Parsons (Giants had a really harsh description of his issues), combine that with Joseph's issues, then they are taking some chances.
However if the offensive line is good this year It's on both coach Judge and DG.
Good point. Lots of teams passing on him. Giants could take a chance on him in the 6th, I suppose?!
not to mention a early praised UDFA Kyle Murphy who can play guard and center
all while brining back Nate Solder a experienced veteran LT who can come in and be the swing tackle
I feel pretty good about what DG has already put in place here.
Get a rb and maybe another TE and lets go.

I noticed that we did not upgrade our horrendous OL.
You either believe in the Giants ability to select the linemen they did last year and develop them or you don't. And if you don't, then why would you want to add more offensive linemen? You wouldn't have confidence in their development either.
ILB Cam McGrone - Michigan
DL Daviyon Nixon - Iowa
LB Dylan Moses - Alabama
WR Tamorrion Terry - Florida State

Ehh, you got to keep pitching...

I like the way it looks like the Giants are staying true to their draft board not forcing picks for need.

Hutcherson is a true RG, which I'd love to add to this roster, even if it's a developmental prospect.

Howie Roseman traded back in the 3rd netting them a 6th. Giants jumped them to take Robinson.
Apparently the Eagles Director of Player of pro personnel, Tom Donahue, wanted Robinson and was not on board with the move. Check out the video.

LAC might have jumped the gun on McKitty, but he’s the developmental TE I took too - albeit much later.

A friend of mine is pretty close with a the Philly beat writers.
According to them, the people in the Philly FO think he is a bit of a worm. The "football guys" in the FO see him as purely analytics guy always trying to outsmart people. They say it is a pretty toxic atmosphere.

People gave MadPlaid crap, but Jamin Davis was a 1st Rounder
A history of blood clots in his lungs
Similar issue to Lemieux. He didn’t always look like he had the feet in pass protection
Yes.
I know because I am Factor V Leiden, I am sure he is positive. Once you develop blood clots in your lungs, which is typical for the disease you must be on blood thinners for life. The other place the blood clots develop is in the legs. Maybe a hard hit could cause it. That would scare off teams.
That’s what DG would fall a real Hog Mollie!

IIRC we had another player on the Giants that developed blood clots and he couldn’t play.

If we wanted a concert and a party, we’d do that, Rog.
but less than hard-core fans are not going to be watching the draft past round one. all this nonsense just alienates the ones who DO want to watch.

Blood clots
Blood clots.
He has blood clot issues. I guess it’s scaring most teams off. I’m assuming he’s not even on the giants board at all if they took Brightwell over him. He would’ve lasted until their next pick.

dumbasses
When you have a propensity for blood clots you go on anticoagulation meds. That means your blood doesn't clot easily. The result is you bruise easily (imagine that when you are being pounded on daily in the NFL in practice and games), and if you get cut and bleed it becomes difficult to stop. And if you get a blood clot, particularly in the lungs, or one that travels to your heart, you can die.

Good looking RB. He’ll be e developmental guy I assume. He did lead Wildcats in rushing last year and was an All Conf Honorable selection.

Tbh, his explanations and grades turn me off. They’re all based on where he picked a player in his mock draft rather than some evaluative process. I mean I guess the mock is an evaluative but there’s no real analysis provided other than “I had this guy in the third round when I did my mock do’s A+”
We'll be signing at least a few oline guys after the draft is over as free agents
This is such a dumb take. This was an A+ draft. It’s probably Ly almost an A+ draft even when you discount the trades.
