NFT: Soccer: Manchester United fans invade Old Trafford

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 5/2/2021 10:01 am
To protest their owners - the Glazers, who own the Buccaneers - and their part in the European Super League. The Fans entered the pitch and after a period of time exited.

There is supposed to be a game vs Liverpool, but don't know it can happen now with fans chewing up the pitch and a complete security failure.

This is YEARS in the making, with the Glazers saddling the club with massive amounts of debt from the start and using the club as a cash machine without really investing in the club (once the top stadium in England, Old Trafford has many areas of disrepair).
Glazers probably want to sell.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this coincides with the 50+1 business that’s being talked about as a way to foist the club onto the fans.
Carl Anka - who covers the team for the Athletic - is there

Serious doubt the game will be played, thousands showed up to protest - most fans just want the Glazers to sell the team.

what a mess, sad state of affairs

Not as if it's only the NA owners of EPL/Euro teams who led the Super League fiasco, but their participation is notable and crass
I'm watching it now - plit screen with Ars on one half and the riot

on the other (NBCSN).

The money grubbing owners who set up the now-defunct "Super League" are in trouble. Folks like Glazer are all about the money, England soccer fans (and I bet other countries too) want no part of this type.
Good

CHP - there's a lot to unwrap here. The Glazers have operated in the NFL/MLB model, which is essential a cabal due to anti-trust exception. That model doesn't fly in Europe, particularly when an owner doesn't seem interested other than milking fans.

Klopp also made a point earlier in the week that even now after the Super League was quashed, the UK media is still riling people up. The ESL was kind of the last straw with MUFC and Arsenal fans, who have the worst of the American owners in the Glazers and Kroenke.
The Glazers are trash.

Serious trash. I hope they run them out of the continent. The Kroenke are also unpolished turds.
Will this have ramifications with the NFL/MLB in the UK?

The American owners (Glazer Man U/Bucs, Kroneke Arsenal/Rams, and John Henry Liverpool/Red Sox) are VERY unpopular in the UK right now.

I could see protests at the next NFL game, especially if it's at the new stadium in Tottenham, who were also involved in the ESL. If the UK market is that important to the NFL, I could also see the rest of the NFL owners putting pressure on the Glazers and Kroneke to sell, just to save face.

And yeah, MLB isn't ever going to catch on there, but I'm sure they want to sell things like MLB merchandise...actually, they could play up the Yankee/Red Sox Rivalry. It would be hysterical if the Liverpool fans all wore Yankee caps to the next game!
Game is Postponed

This couldn't be more embarrassing for the Glazers. Linked below is a great Twitter thread on the Glazers, who have really have done nothing but saddle the team with debt that they then passed onto shareholders and fans. They didn't name a Director of Football for basically a decade.

Yeah, the NFL could have problems when they next show up in London due to this
