Obviously, we don’t know what the trade down options are. But, when Waddle goes to Miami, knowing the Giants loved Smith - would you have parted with a 3rd round pick to secure Smith?
Here’s a scenario: Dallas calls you when they are on the clock. They say that Smith is yours if you part with the 3rd rounder and move up a spot. This prevents him from going to Philly. Would you make that move?
It appears the Giants loved Smith. Would you have been more aggressive in real time to get him? Knowing what we know now, I think we all would have taken the trade down. But, would you have faulted the Giants if they were more aggressive to secure Smith?
I was against trading up for anyone this year unless there was a shot at Pitts where they didn't have to give up next year's first.
Trader Dave is your daddy
i did not realize there would be such a strong offer to trade down however
Trader Dave is your daddy
Settle down. I’m happy with how everything went down.
But in the end I think the trade down was best.
I’ll take Toney and the picks. Smith will be a difference maker but the Giants did very well
Exceeds
Smith
The Only one I would have traded up for would have been Sewell, who was the projected best O lineman in the draft, and would have filled the BIGGEST need the O line. Smith may turn out to be better, but there were plenty of good WR in the draft. You don’t trade up for a TE unless he was going to put you over the top, and the Giants are a lot closer to the bottom than the top.
Obviously, they weren't going to choose an Edge at 11 so I would have felt no reason to move up.
I have preferred getting more picks to fill more holes or get the OL at 11. Those were my 2 top options.
But in the end I think the trade down was best.
Honestly it’s an impressive feat to keep this up. Your obsession w the QB is unreal.
Toney might be the better play maker.
The benefit is the Giants not trading out of 11 and taking a player you coveted if you trade to 12. I still do not give a 3 if I knew I had Chicago deal as a fallback
But in the end I think the trade down was best.
Lol of course you do.
The NYG would have had to include their 2nd, not their 3rd. Their 3rd would have not only just matched the PHL offer, it was 1 slot worse. They would have had to beat the PHL offer, not match it.
No way I would have inlcuded my 2nd for Smith, Pitts only.
Love the combination of Toney and the extra pick.
Overall, the trade down was a solid fallback option and Toney very well might end up being better since you never know. But I was a huge Smith fan and could totally see the argument why trading up for him would’ve been worth it.
I’m not sure which scenario would’ve been better, I’m happy how it ended up for the Giants because they look to be in great position for 2022 but at the same time I feel pissed that Smith will be an Eagle.
And BTW, it netted us a really good prospect.
If Smith becomes Marvin Harrison then, yes, trading up would have been the right move.
I’m glad they had a fallback in place.
