usually humbling to hear what Sy' would have done. He's likely on board with the trade down and would have gone Paye at #20. Indy took him at 21, and Sy' tweeted that Indy knows how to draft.

Probably right with Paye(kind of who I was expecting really). We know he did not like Toney, he strongly did not like the character concerns.
That and his references to 'joy stick' and 'gadget'
Seems as though he just wasn't a big fan of KT's style of play vs. a more traditional WR
See, I read that as complementary. Joy stick as in a unreal cuts, starts and stops. Yeah "gadget" you are right as in gimmicky, but from what I see he isn't anymore gimmicky than Tyreek Hill.
Really as I read and re-read Sy's report, take out the "issues" and it is a very good report for a guy with limited experience.
Cromartie's Kid, weird, I know some have made that comp.; I just don't see it in KT. Kamara is more solid, powerful, imv: 5'10 215lbs, while KT 5'11 195. If those are accurate, pretty sig. difference. KT might be a bit shiftier and twitchier, but AK can bull his way over and between defenders--we've seen that in the NFL. We've seen 'similar' from KT in college, but I'm not persuaded that aspect of his game--breaking tackles and bulling over DBs--will translate to NFL. fwiw

I can see what you're saying; just have a difficult time getting over KT's final grade, guess I'm a weenie grade grubber (: If he's anything close to Tyreek, well, we've got something

Before the Toney pick Sy posted on the draft thread that he wanted Paye.
so my opinions are biased by a few highlights and expert opinions, but Toney seems like he can be used in more different ways than D Smith. Smith clearly seems to be more "NFL ready". I think D Smith was "higher floor, lower ceiling, with Toney being lower floor, higher ceiling". Time will tell.
Don't give a damn about Urban Meyer's thoughts but rumors of the Saints wanting Toney make me more confident in the pick. I trust the Saints evaluation of skill players more than our own.
Just like the Ravens taking Oweh signaled to me I wasn't crazy to want him at 20 -- the Ravens know what they're doing on defense.

I think the reason people make the comp is that Toney has more than once said himself that he tries to emulate Kamara's game, including in his interview right after being chosen:
Quote:
Q: Who were some of the players that you sort of modeled your game after that we would know of obviously in the NFL? And how do you envision yourself fitting into an offense that already has a lot of weapons on offense at wide receiver?
A: I’d say my game is kind of like Davante Adams, (Alvin) Kamara, like just quick, dynamic, explosive. Because Kamara, he’s really explosive and really elusive. Really coming into an offense that’s already full or packed, I want to just play my role. Whatever my job is, do it to the best of my ability.
Q: There aren’t a lot of wide receivers who would name a running back as a comparison to themselves.
A: Because I’m versatile. A lot of people can’t play running back.
trade Toney for Etienne right now! Then trade Saquon for a 1st or a couple 2nds and this draft is a total steal. Toney may end up being a solid NFL player...but Travis Etienne has top 5 RB kind of talent. Meyer might have wanted Toney with the 1st pick in the 2nd round? Either way, he got a f*cking stud RB with the 25th pick.
needs to learn he is not on College Gameday anymore.
Even if he felt that way about Toney, you can't say shit
like I was 'heartbroken' or whatever when you are now a
HC in the NFL!
Then they draft Etienne, and that kid, his family, his agent
all must feel like, well they had to 'settle' for me.
That will probably light a burr under his saddle.
Just bad audio/optics there Urb, just not good.

Him taking Etienne was a headscratcher. With Robinson & Hyde already there they should've went OL or D.
But, I don't get paid to make the call
Sy is great and much appreciated, but he is one opinion and he, as well as most scouts, miss soemtimes. By way of example, he had Michael Thomas as his 16 rated WR in 2016 with a 73 grade.
No way Tony was making it out 8f the First Round
It will be interesting to see what Sy says in his "What I would have done" thread.

Toney seemed like the perfect Sean Payton player. As I have said elsewhere, does Jason Garrett have that creativity?

Toney plays like Kamara, Saints knew it

I think Sy'56 had Kadarius Toney going in the mid-20s of Round One on a BBI Mock Draft thread.
