with Brooklyn Bedding and their Aurora which was one of the, if not the, coolest sleeping mattresses. I first tried the a Serta mattress in a box but their soft/medium was just too firm. I need a little bit of give for a couple of balky shoulders.
Of note, if you go by way of a mattress in a box, you can end up spending more than a year trying them out and arranging to have them picked up. I ended up finding a showroom in NYC that carries nearly all the major brand name mattresses in a box. Don’t know if it’s geographically feasible but i believe below is the link to their store. Going to the store with some brands in mind will help me (thanks JohnnyR) but, I am going to have to climb on top before I spend.

Wife and I tried Bear and retuned it. We got their softer model and nit was still super firm.
