we have several free agents coming up, Engram, Peppers, Hernandez, Carter. None are really elite elite players, but they are and can be contributors. If we have a 10-6 season, and lets say they all play decent. Which ones are you inclined to keep?
with Engram is he has ALL the talent in the world and is a high character, hard working kid...Dammit if he just can't put it all together. He's the type of person you want to root for, but in the game when he's flicking volleyball tips off his hands, all that good will goes right out the door... he is a frustrating player, but if he puts it all together he would be hard to let go...the TE franchise number isn't anything too prohibitive, so I could see them letting him prove it on a Franchise Tag.
But if he puts up another season like last year....deuces buddy haha.
I really want Peppers back...if we drafted JOK, then Peppers would be redundant, but we didn't, so I really would like to have him back.
Helped recruit Golladay and Jackson. That’s a true Giant. If Hernandez has a good year I’d sign him as well.
No way with Engram, I don’t care what he does this year. His drops and tips for interceptions have been the focal point here over the past several months but he’s had one healthy season in his four year career. That’s an important thing to consider.
Based on the money we saw Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith receive this offseason, even in this decreased cap environment, I can only imagine what Engram will ask for.

He’s a key player in the secondary. His versatility is perfect for the Giants’ defensive scheme. He’s a top notch athlete. Want to see him in blue for the long run.
Not only on how they play, but on how much they command from others. If they play well, but unspectacularly this year, I'd resign any of them, but only at the right price. Just as I suspect they would have been happy to sign Tomlinson, but weren't willing to match what he got from Minn. Also depends on what our options at those positions are like. For instance, if Hernandez, Lemieux and Fulton all step up this year and are thought to be about equal by the team, it is easier to let Hernandez go and seek a cheaper replacement to back up the other two.
that Graham has brought out. I think he will move on as someone will over pay him ala LC. People were saying McKinney is his replacement. Giants then get a safety in the draft.
But of any of the possible FAs, Peppers is the one I would want.
None of them will be extended or re-signed. I think they would love to re-sign Peppers, but I'm not sure that's going to be realistic. And hopefully McKinney really comes on as his replacement. Love is good depth, and they could go Safety next year in the first few rounds to round out the depth.
but with Ryan signed to a multi-year deal, McKinney, Love having played safety (although I think he's better at corner), they Giants may not be able to afford to sign Peppers to a huge deal and may be forced to let him walk.
Answer: that means they are having solid off-seasons, learning, paying attention, high character, and one less worry at season's end when free agency starts. We can sign them cheaper now then later should they exceed expectations.
That is my hypothetical, best case scenario but in truth the best thing that could happen for us is for Peppers to get signed NOW and perhaps (gulp) Engram.
As noted above, Engram has talent and he seems to have a good work ethic. He just hasn't put it together though in his final season he just may flourish. Remember, Strahan became an All-Pro in 2007 after a solid but unspectacular 2006. The talent was there but he had to put it together in the right spot.
If our top 3 guys receiving put up numbers like that D. Jones would have a magnificent year. That would mean our offense was clicking with an OL that included Hernandez (likely) and three 2nd year guys!
At the end of the day, at a minimum, I hope the Giants pay the right guys the right amounts before payouts get ridiculous again.
I want Peppers back. Hernandez TBD -- I know it's a different sport, but seeing how Mika Zibanejad struggled on the Rangers earlier this year after getting COVID, I want to see how Hernandez plays this year. IF he plays well, he could leapfrog Peppers, but I hope we can bring them both back.
As others have alluded to, Zo Carter's Achilles rupture doesn't bode well for his (alleged) strengths as a player, so I don't have high hopes for his recovery.

It appears JJ really likes Engram..APPEARS.
This is one thing that always cracks me up on this site.
Judge praises Jones and it is pointed to as irrefutable proof that he believes in Jones. When it was suggested it might be coach speak people were asked if they were calling Judge a liar.
Judge praises Engram and it is "Well what else do you expect him to say?" When you ask if they are calling Judge a liar, it is met with "All coaches do this."
Either you believe Judge really likes Jones AND Engram, or you need to admit you don't actually know where he stands on either (which is most likely the correct answer).
I think he's a perfect fit for PG's defense and will be even better this season. I view him as a poor man's Jamal Adams and if they can agree to a mutually beneficial deal before the season, I'm on board.
Only other one I'd consider is Hernandez, but he needs to prove he can start at RG first.
Engram - hoping he cuts down on the drops and puts up a 60/800/8 season and then cashes (Hunter Henry type money) in elsewhere.
Carter - hopefully surprises with 6-8 sacks and similarly cashes in on a 2nd tier level contract.
Assuming we aren't big players in FA next year, those 2 departures would net us some comp picks.
But if he puts up another season like last year....deuces buddy haha.

Good point, definitely can’t overpay, but id love to have him back.

Was key part in recruiting Golladay also.
Personally, I would like Hernandez back.
hernandez entirely depends on how he plays this year.
Carter may not even make the 53 (or may start on IR/PUP).
Why??? We haven't seen them even play yet????

Galloday - 75-1100-8
Barkley 80-1000-6
Engram 70-950-7

Bingo! I'd really like to see which players are thriving and make the decision you know - when the decision is going to be made.
