IOW's do the Giants trade down even if Smith was there?
We know the deal was not spontaneous and the general terms were set.
My second thought: without Smith did the terms change?
Just idle speculation and not terribly important in the scheme of things, but I think they would have made the deal anyway, so in effect Philly was not the Flint that started the fire.
And I also think there's the possibility that Chicago pulled back some bartering chips once Smith was gone.
if forced to give an opinion I'd say if Smith was there at 11, Giants stay at 11 and take Smith.
Absolutely DeVonta would've been the pick.
They didn't have two number ones next year. They have no first round picks next year now.
And yes, it was a win-win for both teams. Giants get draft capital; Bears get their franchise QB.
Bears could not walk back on the deal arranged as Minnesota was apparently looking to move and they wanted Fields.
I was a "trade down" guy....and if the downs worked like this one.
I would always trade down.
I actually feel Toney will have a better career then Smith.
20/20 hindsight I'm ecstatic that Philly jumped ahead of the Giants.

THIS. The Vikings made the Bears make that deal. The Giants wouldn't have made the trade if Smith was there based on what's been said by people who know like Rico.
Just my opinion, we may never know. I hope Smith gets under-utilized in Philly and we kick their ass for years to come.

I hope they get called for delay of game while they play Rock Paper Scissors to determine who the first read will be.
Ditto. I hope we use the Bears pick to get a player who haunts the Philthy Green Birds for a decade.
