11th Pick (No trade with Lions)

Damfino : 5/2/2021 9:47 pm
1. Who would have been the 11th pick?
2. Who should have been the 11th pick?

If this has been discussed previously, my apologies, I will delete.
No trade with Lions?

If Eagles didn’t trade with Cowboys? Otherwise why would 10th pick matter?
AVT for sure

If Dallas kept #10

Parsons would have been there pick anyway and we take Smith at 11

If we didn’t trade with the Bears then we would have taken Alijah Vera Tucker at 11

Assuming giants weren’t thinking AVT was gonna be available
At 20. Was toney on top of their list there or was he bunched with a handful of others
Was ojulari a consideration at 20?
Thanks 8n advance
Really. Like our draft. D is real young g, has some depth for sure
Toney can open things up for KG and saquon, and visa versa
Need competent oline play to make it all work
See how the improvements are from yr 1 to 2 on oline
Meant Bears

In the Athletic Duggan said save Sewell the Giants weren't enamored with any of the OL with the 11th.

Good question. I don't think trading back to #20 was a scenario that we considered very much or prepared for. The deal was too good to pass up, so we took it, and then we had about an hour to decide our pick.

I'm not sure who else was in consideration. We hoped AVT might fall, but that didn't happen.

I wonder had AVT fell a few more spots if we would have traded up for him. The Jets made a nice move. Having Becton and AVT on the left side of that line is a great start to giving Wilson the protection he needs.

Rico, FWIW, it seems that the deal was worked out by mid-week according to DG, that the Bears had contacted the Giants on the possibility of a trade and they had a couple conversations(DG pretty much said this post round #1). There was even a rumor earlier in the week that we talked about on BBI - trading with the Bears and what it would take. Believe one of the prognosticators threw this out and we jabbered about it and what it would take to move from 20 to 11. (If I knew how to search better, I would love to see what we all said about this trade.)

JJ, DG et al, said they went through these scenarios 6PM that night including what happened. So I am sure they had an idea whom they had on the board and who to take should players x, y and z be there. Yes I am sure(just like with Ojulari) they had list of people ready and had a choice of the remaining players by the time #20 came about.

I think Giantfan52 said they needed to throw in 2022 #1.
I dont know how to link old posts

but on a thread about Toney from 3/17 I did say Toney doesnt work at 11 but if we were able to sign Gollady and trade down to low 20s he would be worth it.

I think there was a major perfect storm for us to get Toney and Ojulari. Everything had to break a certin way.

I wanna know most who put their balls on the line when we traded down with Miami instead of picking Ojulari at 42. That was the toughest decision in this draft for us.

Dank, that was a very gutsy move in hindsight. Moving back in round 2, after getting jumped in round 1, I would be inclined to stay and pick at 42. It seems unreal they were able to get Ojulari at pick 50.

probably deserves its own thread

but i haven't heard anyone mention the money saved on the rookie contract by moving from 11 to 20.

Toney = Projected 4 years, $13.7M
Fields = Projected 4 years, $18.8M

Every little bit helps!!

that's actually a very good observation. Saving approx $1.25 mil a year is not chump change
Excellent question

I have believed DG wanted pick one to be someone who can support Danny Dimes more than anything....so I do not believe DG would have selected defense at 11, so no Parsons. Dallas would still get him.

So who would we pick?

Well, who was best available to support Danny? Well, those two OL, Slater and AVT could help support Dimes. But it became apparent, DG was hoping for a playmaker more than a Hog Molly.

As for a WR...Toney was arguably the best available. I’m sure had we picked him at 11, this site would have gone bonkers and the media would have been all over DG....but thank God, da Bears came in and gave us an out....which allowed us without controversy to select Toney at a spot, 20, where most intelligent people could agree he should be picked.
