If things go south in Philly, and Smith is unhappy there for whatever reason, how much would you give up in a trade to bring him onboard?
He’s a good kid and will probably accept his fate, practice hard and play hard, but if he really wanted to be in NY, he may find his way here eventually anyway.
Thoughts?
While he seems like a nice young man, he’s now on a hated divisional rival.
We have an above average WR corps now. Use the 2022 1st to fill another need.
Where you're drafted doesn't matter as much once you put pads on. For example, John Ross was a #1 draft pick and was drafted higher than Smith. We gave up nothing for him. It's all about production and value once you play.
And Philly would NOT trade a top 10 pick from the 2021 draft (to the Giants no less) for just a 2022 first rounder, which would probably be outside the top 10.
That being said, yes I would do it in a heartbeat, because getting Smith THIS year for a 1st RD pick NEXT year would be great value... and next year we'd still have a 1st rounder and extra picks in RDs 3 and 4.
How high or low in the first will the bears pick be?
What player are we getting from the Chicago pick (high or low)?
But also, just playing out your hypothetical, if the Eagles were in a position to be trading their 1st round pick after less than a year, you'd have to consider that they'd get back less than what they spent on him.
Oh yes. And would be shopping somebody else in that unit like Shep immediately...
in the near future will turn around and trade him...okay.
Smith is better than the average first-rounder. Giants and Bears are likely to be mid-round picks next year. If Smith really isn't happy, who knows? Philly is a dysfunctional organization and maybe they'll bail.
That would mean that instead of drafting Smith at #11, the Giants eventually get Toney AND Smith along with a 4 and 5 and saving the 3 the Eagles used to move up.
And if he's not anywhere near as good as he's cracked up to be, or gets hurt, he's not going to command a #1 in trade.
Bottom line? Philly isn't trading him.
Then with that $ use it best way possible, whatever that is.
Save the 2022 draft choices for our offensive line. We're lined up perfectly to fix the O-Line, and make deep runs for the next five years in the playoffs! And don't underestimate our #1...I think he's going to have a breakout rookie year!
For another, next year's draft is predicted to be considerably stronger than this year's, due to the impact of Covid patterns. Strong players who lost last season didn't come out in many cases. If 2022 is much stronger, a #11 this year could be the equivalent of a #15-17 or something like that next year. Possibly even lower than that. If we get three real kickass players next year with the 2 #1, a really good #2 in a strong draft, and two pretty good #3s, this team will be relly deep and strong.
And, of course the one huge open question has to be what Jones looks like this year. It's possible that we look for a QB and an OL in round 1 if Jones doesn't play so well. Kudos to Gettleman for giving us this much potential and flexibility in 2022.
Then with that $ use it best way possible, whatever that is.
A 2023 #1? For a guy on an expiring option year that reportedly couldn't fetch a 3rd round pick at the deadline last year?
Any Giants fan would make that deal and approximately zero other NFL teams would.
Then with that $ use it best way possible, whatever that is.
Great idea. Can we also trade John Ross for a 2024 1st rounder? Maybe we can get a 2032 2nd rounder for Niko Lalos...I mean it's so far away who even wants that pick anyway.
So you just woke up this morning and decided you were going to do whatever was necessary in order to get banned on here?
Next.

First Simmons last year and now Davonta Smith. Some of you need a box of midol and a case of tampons
So you just woke up this morning and decided you were going to do whatever was necessary in order to get banned on here?
So you just woke up this morning and decided you were going to do whatever was necessary to be a bitch? On a Monday no less? What did I hit a nerve?
I can't believe it took this long for there to be any push back against this stupid hypothetical
