NFT: Hit by Pitch (face issue)

Alan W : 5/3/2021 5:08 pm
I'm of the opinion that some additional form of penalty should be levied on Genesis Cabrera (for hitting Bryce Harper and Didi Gregorius on the next pitch) and Carlos Martinez (for hitting Pirates catcher Jacob Stallings) -- both in the face.

Both Harper and Stallings handled it professionally as the pitchers seemed devastated.

But their lack of care is inexcusable and could have ended careers.

What do others think?

FWIW, I've followed the Cardinals for decades and seldom miss a game.

unintentional. What more can you want from the kid? Should we suspend NFL lineman who perform a clean tackle but someones leg bends the wrong way? Coming into this game he had hit 2 of the previous 123 hitters he had faced (h/t to Rob Rains for that stat). Suspensions are for intent, not mistakes.

"I kind of reiterated that I understand, it happens, it's part of the game," Harper said. "I have no ill will toward (Cabrera). He didn't do it on purpose. And I just wanted to make sure he was OK. He's a young kid, a young pitcher, and that can definitely mess with somebody."

Harper told Shildt that he prayed for Cabrera and offered to speak with the pitcher if he wanted.
Part of the game. No

pitcher wants to do it, but the ball sometimes gets away from them, especially breaking balls. Also, a lot of hitters crowd the plate.

I’ve never been a big Harper fan, but that’s a masterclass in handling something with class
