NFT: Mets at Cardinals Game 1. Luchessi

ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 7:02 pm
Mets Lineup

Jeff McNeil – 2B
Francisco Lindor – SS
Michael Conforto – RF
Pete Alonso – 1B
Dominic Smith – LF
Kevin Pillar – CF
Jonathan Villar – 3B
Tomas Nido – C
Joey Lucchesi – P
Cardinals Lineup

Tommy Edman – 2B
Dylan Carlson – RF
Paul Goldschmidt – 1B
Nolan Arenado – 3B
Paul DeJong – SS
Tyler O’Neill – LF
Harrison Bader – CF
Andrew Knizner – C
Adam Wainwright – RHP

Davis on the IL again for his sprained finger (BOOOO)... Hildenberger back up. Luchessi also recalled for tonight. Davis has been raking so that's unfortunate. Mets at .500 and tied for first in spite of a bunch of players not hitting and injuries mounting. LGFM.
Big game to get tonight
jpkmets : 5/3/2021 7:09 pm : link
Behind Luchesi. Love to see the offense mash this series.
Also not sad to see
jpkmets : 5/3/2021 7:10 pm : link
Yadi out. Dude still drives me crazy.
When is Nimmo going to be back?
Vanzetti : 5/3/2021 7:17 pm : link
.
Nimmo still banged up
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 7:18 pm : link
Diaz back is bothering him and he is likely unavailable.

Villar and Pillar are paying dividends early.

Really nice depth signings and we've had to dip into that well early.

Still day to day and on the team.
He was a ninth inning

Defensive replacement last night
really unfortunate
ryanmkeane : 5/3/2021 7:52 pm : link
that in basically every game this season, the first 3 innings are essentially a waste for the offense
Pillar is definitely heating up
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 8:10 pm : link
lol at Wainwright walking Villar to get to Nido and then plunking him.
Lindor has just been dreadful
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 8:18 pm : link
Wow.
It's painful watching Lindor at this point
dannysection 313 : 5/3/2021 8:19 pm : link
I mean, talk about an automatic out....

He's not going to be like this for nine years....right?
Rojas really REALLY needs to put Lindor in the 8th spot
speedywheels : 5/3/2021 8:19 pm : link
He's an automatic out.
I had Lindor pegged for a slow start
Chris684 : 5/3/2021 8:20 pm : link
many players come to NY and it takes some time.

He's starting to worry me now though.
Lindor
GF1080 : 5/3/2021 8:22 pm : link
Have to take him out of the 2 spot.

Cards manager is a moron for the IBB.
Lindor strands three runners and
speedywheels : 5/3/2021 8:28 pm : link
Luchessi promptly gives up the lead....
Haha.
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 8:40 pm : link
Pillar on fire!!
Pillar's wRC+ just went from 54 to 99
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 8:45 pm : link
lol
Nice hitting that inning
jpkmets : 5/3/2021 8:45 pm : link
Great stuff from Pete. Dom with the run scoring out was a perfect example of the little things.

I’d drop Lindor to 6 right now. I have zero doubts he will be raking soon enough, but he just does not need to be in the 2 hole at all.

Love to see his defense doesn’t slump with his offense. Can’t wait to watch him when he’s in gear. Offense is very close. Alonso hitting seeds is fun to watch.
Last start for Luchessi
moze1021 : 5/3/2021 8:58 pm : link
for a while, hopefully

He's just a bit too inconsistent. Makes too many mistakes and doesn't have the velocity to cover for the mistakes...
Unbelievable.
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 8:58 pm : link
terrible call. Obvious strikeout that was not tipped. two pitches later its gone.
Human HP umpires are horrible but that pitch was
CooperDash : 5/3/2021 9:00 pm : link
right down the middle of the plate right after Arenado crushed a foul ball. Horrible pitch from a bad pitcher.

Lucchesi is not a ML pitcher
Vanzetti : 5/3/2021 9:01 pm : link
He has no way of getting righties out. Like Gary and Keith said, he needs to develop a cutter or a change

Unfortunately we are stuck with the cards replays so we didn’t get a better look. It sounded like he tipped it but it didn’t look like it on the replay.
Terrible job by Rojas there

Lol.. no I really don't know what you mean... wasn't trying to be a jerk.

If Cookie didn't get hurt, Luchessi wouldn't be in the rotation.

Luchessi makes like $600K vs Matz $5M

Besides them both being lefties, I don't see what you're getting at.

Cool cool. Just giving you a heads up that he tipped it, since you missed it.
Looked like a blatant miss...
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 9:13 pm : link
I guess the audio led credence to that not being the case. More importantly, Rojas had nobody ready in a "bullpen game" and let Luchessi get his brains beat in for 5 straight hits when he clearly had nothing. Luchessi should have been pulled as soon as he gave up the bomb. Now we are losing....

Oh well.
Didn't look like a foul tip to me

Carrasco recovered from a very serious cancer. Chemo destroys your muscles. I really would not count on Carrasco. Whatever Mets get from him is gravy

That's extreme. Obviously, the Mets traded for him thinking he was healthy and he passed his physical AND pitched well last year. We should absolutely expect Carrasco to be "solid" when he returns.
What I don’t get about Rojas
Vanzetti : 5/3/2021 9:24 pm : link
He was just a replacement for Beltran and he did a poor job
Last year.

Why would you bring him back?

I could see if this was a rebuilding year but Mets are win
Now mode. How do you possibly put the team in his bands? Especially when
He was brought in
By the previous regime.

Just a really
Piss poor decision by Sandy in
An off-season of poor decisions.

Didnt seem like Sandy was very fond of Rojas actually. He didnt give him a vote of confidence for over a month. He very likely was on the fence. Ultimately, they likely gave him another shot because 2 months wasn't a fair enough sample, even though I agree.... I wouldnt have brought him back. But that was likely the rationale. Not sure what else you are upset over. Mets have a solid roster and had a good offseason.

Look up his cancer. Very serious. With s high rate of return. Obviously a very important factor. That’s likely why Cleveland was willing to throw him in
The deal.

This is all speculation on your part. Sandy made the decision to keep him.

Whether it is likely to return or not
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2021 9:34 pm : link
There is zero sign of that now and I disagree he was a "throw in". The deal was FOR Carrasco and one year of Lindor. The trade was as much for Carrasco as it was for Lindor. We needed a cost effective SP with Wheeler going to Philly a year prior and Syndergaard expected to not be ready until June. He was also better than any on other SP on the market IMO.

Its educated speculation. A GM usually will give a vote of confidence in a manager right away. Sandy did not. That's a fact.
Well I think we can agree
Vanzetti : 5/3/2021 9:53 pm : link
That Rojas is really in over his head

What is the Giants
NewBlue : 5/3/2021 10:00 pm : link
Equivalent for what Lindor is doing?
Jones throwing 15 incomplete passes in a row?

This is so laughable, the guy signs a $342 Million Dollar contract and he proceeds to come here and hit .164 after 23 games. I guess he will pull out of this but he seriously needs to get the hell out of the 2 hole

I hate to say it by Rojas was probably Cohens decision, you're talking about a guy who is a minority whos been with the club for years now. To fire him right off the rip would be bad PR.

Can we just get to June before we start calling for blood. Players play guys
Rojas
ryanmkeane : 5/3/2021 11:44 pm : link
is not a good manager. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Mets performance. He’s just not a good manager and does not have a good feel for the game as it’s happening. It has been that way ever since he was hired. The Mets playing well or not well will not solve this issue.
