I am sitting in Gus's famous fried chicken in downtown Memphis.
Big game tonight and Knicks fans are out in Memphis.
Brutal 5 game stretch starts tonight.
Can't think of this as 5 games. Just watch and enjoy the one in front of us. The NBA is so weird night to night between guys perfectly healthy sitting out and back to backs. Unfortunately we're without Noel and Valencunas is a beast on the boards. Even with Noel we'll struggle against the western teams and their size.
Was hoping it was an 8 PM start time. I’m so tired lol
I am worried about friday night,my sister is getting married saturday, i am too old to be staying up both nights late
I conked out early last night & didn't catch a lick of Knicks Rockets. I will DVR game & watch before work tomorrow. I hate these late tips, Haha. I ain't in my 20s anymore.
and the Tickets are like 5% of the price of the tickets to MSG. Kind of wishing I'd gone now. Only chance I could've gotten to see a game this year. Was too lazy to go there and back on a Monday night lol.
I'm pretty sure we were up 30 when Thibs put the entire end of the bench in. It's really amazing one guy can have that much of a negative impact on a team.
I feel like there has to be someone out there sitting on his couch who we can sign that's better than Payton. Or at the very least does less damage than Payton... And I'm not talking about for next year haha
I'm guessing Burks was ready to return last night but Thibs didn't want him to play 2 nights in a row his first days back (especially if behind on conditioning), so if he had to pick 1 of the 2 games to play it was gonna be this one.
Like slow your ass down and stop forcing shots early in the shot clock (not to mention turning the fucking ball over). The Grizzlies WANT a fast-paced game and he's playing right into their hands with that shit. Which would be fine if he didn't completely fucking suck but he does
but Payton is the only point guard I have ever seen that looks for his shot first, second and third. Which might be OK if his range was greater than two feet.
for sure we're giving up the lead. Our guys just looked tired.
Then... the coach gets 2 techs + ejection (Randle makes both). Rose with a nice bucket on the possession. 3 more techs and an ejection later the Knicks are up 15 w/ a minute to play.
Pure immaturity by the Grizzlies. So you didn't get a call... big deal. You wanna go back and count all the missed fouls YOU committed? That was an insane reaction to a simple missed call.
But really, why does Payton continue to start over Rose? Rose is just head and shoulders better than him. If you're going to play Payton, at least play him off the bench.
the Memphis crew is not nearly as infuriating as the Atlanta crew (meaning the announcers-- those are the 2 teams I'm blacked out on with my Knicks League Pass lol-- it's absolute hell to not have Clyde while watching a game smh)

The Grizzlies announcers saying: "And their reactions are warranted... watching that replay."
Those reactions were NOT warranted.
Did the Grizz announcers review the play where Rose went up for a layup on a fast break and almost got his arm chopped off with no call while the Grizz were on their run?
Points in the paint were 54-34 Knicks. Those were 2 areas I thought we'd have a tough time tonight. Taj and Pelle combined for 8 blocks. Huge props to them.

Memphis’ heart out it’s chest down the stretch like Mola Ram in Temple of Doom.
Thibs was crazy leaving Burks in as the lead disinterested. -9 tonight, clearly getting back up to speed. DRose needs to be running point for the final 8 minutes of every game that is important or close at all.
Was suffocating.
Morant could get nothing inside and the ball denial was tight.

With one of the toughest schedules in the league.

But really, why does Payton continue to start over Rose? Rose is just head and shoulders better than him. If you're going to play Payton, at least play him off the bench.
Two main reasons:
1) To limit the minutes he plays
2) Rose is a part of a unit...they play differently together than the starters. There is probably a lot having to do with Randle, RJ and him playing together last year. You dont just put all the players you think are the best players on the same unit. Different players interact with each other differently. Rose plays on a line with 3 guys who are great at creating on their own. RJ and certainly Bullock arent nearly as good at creating their own opps as Rose, IQ and Burks.
The good news is the Heat have a pretty tough schedule. I bet we finish in the 5 seed and lose home court but face the Hawks, which is a good outcome all things considered.

One key hawks have 6 games left and Knicks have 7 and Knicks are effectively 2 games up on them, with a tough game against phoenix coming up..
Rose is really playing well. Locked in and focused.
Moving around so well too. Not exactly explosive like he was of course, but can really start, stop, start and get to the hoop. What a trade that's been.
And between the 5 techs in 30 seconds, Ja being a total baby
Grayson Allen being a piece of shit and Valanciunas being an unpleasant player to watch, I really enjoyed the Knicks taking care of business last night. Two franchises in completely different places right now.
RJ clapping when Ja got sent off was a lot of fun too.
when I look at the standings is that the Knicks are only 6 back of the Nets. Who, in there right mind, would have thought that could be the case this late in the season after the Nets completed the build of their all-star team.
I guess I shouldn't be that surprised when I consider the time it takes for a team with lots of shiny new pieces to gel. And by no means do I think the Knicks are better than the Nets.

We're only up one in the win column, so it's really only effectively one game up.
i mean why mess with whats working. But someone...anyone needs to start over payton. Sure its working now, but come playoff team we cant be falling behind every time he is in the game and then fighting back. I think starting burks makes sense. Let IQ and Rose continue off the bench together. It also adds more shooting to the starting lineup so the team cant just leave elf wide open all the time knowing he is going to brick the 3.

I missed that, but that makes me smile (RJ clapping).
Even at #6, I think we could do real well vs. the Bucks. We are up 3 on Celts with 7 to go. Miami and Boston two games against each other. Going to be a dog fight. Need at least one more win out west. Two would be great.

It was an epic meltdown for the Grizz. They played hard but completely fell apart in crunch time.

Next 4 are tough...Nuggets, Suns, Clippers, Lakers. Lakers have been in a rut, although they beat Denver last night. Then Spurs game at home is winnable, but Pop and his squad have had the Knicks number for years.
Knicks are red hot...poking around the NBA headlines, write-ups of other teams talk about having the Knicks coming up is a tough game on their schedule. Any given night, let's get it done!!
Clinching at least 5 seed is a huge goal, for potential playoff series win

Excellent, thank you!! RJ enjoying another great team win, while Ja getting sent to his room without supper:)

Hawks have a b2b against the Wiz. Westbrook is playing out of his tits and that team is the second-hottest in the East right now.
Doesn’t look as easy as it did two weeks ago, IMO.
The way washington is playing those are tough games.
Also Pacers are fighting for a playoff spot so can't look past them.
4-2 gets them to 40 wins- with loses to the Suns and washington.
3-4 gets the Knicks to 40 wins and we win the tie breaker.
Looks like all the noise about the Knicks and their bad luck in a 2 person draft was premature. Rj continues to trend up, while Ja has stalled a bit. Not that it means much, but even in fantasy leagues where they use efficiency metrics (RJs weakness early in the season), RJ has been more valuable than Morant - much more so in recent months.
RJ clapping while Ja got tossed was absolutely beautiful.
If i remember correctly but i think it came out that the Grizzlies were chirping a lot during the first game and Brooks looks like he is always talking..
Valanciunas is an ass, too. He was in the post early in the game, holding the ball over Taj's head in what I thought was a taunting way - I was kinda hoping Taj would put him on his ass.
You can tell this team enjoys frustrating their opponents. I remember Noah used to do that clapping thing with Thibs' Bulls whenever their opponents started whining.
Rose and was obviously 100% dead wrong, lol. He's clearly put in the work as he's deadly with that one-handed floater or whatever you want to call it. And if the 3 point shooting is a real thing going forward he's even more of a weapon. In his 29 games as Knick this season, he's already hit more than double the threes he had in 64 games with us in 16/17.
An experienced guard who can create down the stretch. When they had Payton out there at the end of games it was like they were sledding uphill some nights. Rose is just skilled and smart. He keeps his dribble and can score in a lot of different ways, and he's actually looking to shoot 3s. When he's good it really changes the offense down the stretch.
Didn't think this would happen but I'm so glad it did.
what PGs are available or potentially available this summer (Lowry, CP3, Ball, Schroeder, etc.), but bringing Rose back at a decent price might not be the worst idea in the world.
I 100% want Rose back this summer provided he's not wanting like max money, Haha. He's been invaluable to this team. You notice it from the jump when he's on the court.

I would be absolutely shocked if he is not on the Knicks
He will definitely be back if we pay him.
It might take 2 years at 30 million.
He is making 10 million now.
We need to draft a PG to be ready behind him.

his current deal is 2/15. Mid-level projects to be about $10 million this year. That might be the top of his market. Same with Burks. Where the luxury tax number ends up might have a big impact on free agency as well.
Grayson Allen being a piece of shit and Valanciunas being an unpleasant player to watch, I really enjoyed the Knicks taking care of business last night. Two franchises in completely different places right now.

I think he was clapping because, for all intents and purposes, that iced the game for sure. There was still over a minute left and another Tech meant we go up 12....no way they would come back from that.
the Nets, Sixers or Bucks want to see Celtics, Heat or maybe the Wizards who are red hot?
The Heat seem to have taken a real step back from last year. Tatum can go off any night and Westbrook is playing amazing basketball right now. They both scare me more than Jimmy Butler right now.
then they’ll only need one win out west to come home no worse than tied for fourth. Phoenix will be playing second of back to back on the road and went to OT tonight versus shitty Cleveland.
If the Mavs somehow end up w/ a lottery pick then the Knicks don't get the pick... but I think that's wrong. I'm reading that the pick is unprotected. (Mavs aren't getting a lottery pick likely anyway but still)
They have 6 to play.
2 against sixers and bucks.
2 against the Celtics.
If they go 3-3 that is 38 wins.
Knicks have 7 to play and have 37 wins currently.
That was HUGE that the Heat lost tonight. Even if we go 2-5 the rest of the way (which I think is like the WORST-case scenario), the Heat would need to finish 4-2 to finish ahead of us. With back-to-back games against the Celtics and then the Bucks and Sixers I see them finishing 3-3 as well.
I think we have like an 80% chance of finishing as the 4 or 5 seed... 85% if the Suns beat the Hawks tomorrow... but I honestly think that falls to like 50/50 if we don't beat the Celtics in that final game of the reg season. That's gonna be a key game no matter how you slice it.
40 wins (i.e. finish 3-4) definitely secures us the 4 or 5 seed... w/ 39 wins it's a little dicey and again it will then depend then on the outcome of our game against Boston in that scenario. But honestly, if you think abou that-- it's kinda nice to know we could lose 5 of our next 6 and STILL have a shot at the 5 seed by beating the Celtics in that finale at MSG.
Raptors just beat the Lakers and they may very well beat the Clippers tonight. If they can beat the 2 LA teams essentially back-to-back then we should be able to too. (Although the Lakers do look like they could be "back" now somewhat with that win over the Nuggets)
RE: RE: RE: Both Pelle and Noel are questionable for tomorrow's game
Mitch is already out, so that means we may very well be looking at Taj and small-ball
What happened to Pelle?
Sprained ankle
Ugh holy shit. Playing Jokic is not the game you want to play with only one aging center. And I love Taj and think he’s great but how many minutes is he gonna be able to play and who the hell is stopping Jokic when Taj sits? I usually don’t say put up the white flag but if it’s a 20 point Nuggets lead at the half I would be in favor of resting our guys and getting ready to hopefully beat the Suns or Clippers.
Then again I bet the Knicks find a way to shoot 60% from 3 or some shit and make it come down to the last possession just because we’ll they always do haha
Denver and the Clippers have pretty much locked up the top 4 in the west with a 6 game lead on Dallas.
I could see LA rest people against us because of how physical we play.

Ah man I really hope so. How the hell do we stop Jokic with only 1 center and 2 PFs? My buddy and I were just getting super pessimistic about this next 4-game stretch with possibly only 3 C/PFs (that unfortunately also reduces our overall physicality that those teams would try to avoid right?)
What do you guys expect as far as the lineups tomorrow? Taj can only play so many minutes at his age and we need to conserve him for however long the other dudes are out. When Taj comes out I guess we'll play Randle and Obi at the 5 and 4 respectively (or vice versa). But Randle can't play the whole damn game either. At some point I have to imagine 2 of those 3 will be sitting (Taj, Randle, Obi) and then what's the lineup? I think Knox is the only other POSSIBLE PF but no way do I want him on the floor at all. Move RJ to the 4 maybe? He probably plays the best inside of any of our remaining guys... imagine a lineup for a few minutes of: Randle-Barrett-Bullock-Burks-Quickley lol they could just shoot 3s on every possession. Plenty of small ball tomorrow for sure.
We should prob just forfeit tomorrow lol I'm serious what's the point in stretching our guys thin in the middle of a treacherous road trip in a game we are definitely going to lose anyway? I think at the very least there's a strong possibility if we're down by 20 at the half Thibs will rest our starters in the 2nd half.
keeping Randle at the 4 and playing Obi at the 5. We need Randle to play his natural position because he's going to need a huge game tomorrow to win. Meanwhile: Obi has a 7'2" wingspan and can jump out of the gym so I'm going to trust him with the rim protection and hopefully he can slow down Jokic a bit with his pure athleticism alone.
Jokic is going to score like 80 points and we're going to have to shoot 90% from 3 lol
and they go 3-4, Hawks have to go 5-1, Heat 5-1 and Boston 7-0
if knicks 2-5, Hawks 4-2, Heat 4-2, Boston 6-1
I just want 1 more win on this road trip, now if they win tonight i am going to be greedy
I know this sounds crazy but I think we go 2-2 in the next 4.
Sets us up to close out 3 straight at home for the playoffs.
I think this team is too hungry and has a ton to prove.
It makes it dangerous vs. Anyone out there.
The way this team is playing...4-0 is entirely possible. Probable? No, but this team is rolling right now. I fear no one. Sucks but I'll be DVRing this game & will watch tomorrow morning. I hate these late starts, but se la vie.

Lol fuck that. I'll be ecstatic with 2-2, 1-3 is what I'm expecting.
Jon, it's a weird year. Yeah, Denver's good but this is also the same Nuggets team that completely wetted themselves in a game vs. the Cs a couple of weeks back before Murray got injured. Any given night.
Yup on Denver's bench. I watched that Cs Nuggets game-believe it was a Sunday afternoon?-& their bench completely let Boston back into the game. They were awful.

They were up 20 in that game and the bench came in and gave away thr game
You think Thibs is planning to throw in the towel tonight because we're short at C? Think again. He's busy devising a game plan to deal with it. Often as fans we overrate our team. That's not the case right now with this Knicks group. Listening to NBA radio all the time lately the true NBA analysts, I'm not talking about the hot take buffoons on ESPN or even TNT(the disgraceful job those little Lebron ass kissers Shaq and Wade went to defend his play in comments last night was a joke)I'm talking the analyst who live breath and take in the sweat in NBA arenas every night are gushing about this team. Antonio Daniels the Pels color guy was over the top yesterday. Said he was sold prior to the game in NO a few weeks back, but after he watched the job they did on Zion in the 4th quarter he was astounded. Hadn't seen something like that in a long time. I guarentee outside of maybe a healthy Miami team the top 3 in the east want to play us the least of anyone in the 2nd rd. Let teams worry about us for once. How nice is that? I mean even Frank Isola is straining to say something bad about the Knicks these days...
But godamn the Athletic is so worth it. Mike Vorkunov has such a great piece in there today about Rose and what he has meant for the team. Holy crap the metrics are off the charts especially the way it affects Toppin and IQ. Their efficiency skyrockets playing next to him. The Lnicks have the 6th best offense in the NBA since March 27. Rose has transformed his game. His shooting off the dribble has gotten so much better and he's relying less and less on the drives which cuts down on the wear and tear. He's at 45% on non-corner 3's which is in the 100th percentile in the league. My god he's been more valuable than any trade acquisition outside of Harden in the whole league.
The bench for the Knicks is so dangerous that Memphis had to go with mostly starters so the lead didnt extend more...you are going to see teams doing this more, Knicks during this winnning have created 10 to 12 point leads to start the 4th and not let teams back in..
If it wasn't for Brooks and Bane shooting the lights out in

Knicks shooting the lights out for a second straight night, remarkable
Once he starts hitting those open threes, he'll start putting a lot of pressure on the D.
Really should start Rose in the 2nd half, you dont need Payton anymore
Puts us behind every game.

Yeah fractured feet with bigs are never quick to heel
Need Phoenix to beat Atlanta Tuesday night.
Need Dallas to beat Miami.
Need Miami and Boston to split their home and home.
Did Morant even play last night?
Not much else to say about Rose...in total control when he’s out there. Fun times for Knicks fans, let’s keep it rolling boys!

Morant was awful. I winced every single time Grayson Allen shot a 3 we were leaving him so wide open.

RJ clapping when Ja got sent off was a lot of fun too.
I guess I shouldn't be that surprised when I consider the time it takes for a team with lots of shiny new pieces to gel. And by no means do I think the Knicks are better than the Nets.

We're only up one in the win column, so it's really only effectively one game up.

I missed that, but that makes me smile (RJ clapping).

and 2 up in the loss, also if they are tied Knicks habe the 4 spot, that is why it is 2

Grayson Allen being a piece of shit and Valanciunas being an unpleasant player to watch, I really enjoyed the Knicks taking care of business last night. Two franchises in completely different places right now.

It was an epic meltdown for the Grizz. They played hard but completely fell apart in crunch time.
Here you go - Ja tantrum, RJ likes it. - ( New Window )
Remind me why that draft turned out so badly.

Also Pacers are fighting for a playoff spot so can't look past them.
4-2 gets them to 40 wins- with loses to the Suns and washington.
3-4 gets the Knicks to 40 wins and we win the tie breaker.
Remind me why that draft turned out so badly.
Also that missed 5 footer by Ja at the buzzer of regulation at the Garden a few weeks back turned our whole season around.
Remind me why that draft turned out so badly.
He has no jumper and Knicks were packing the paint, knicks got physical with him and he folded
If i remember correctly but i think it came out that the Grizzlies were chirping a lot during the first game and Brooks looks like he is always talking..
You can tell this team enjoys frustrating their opponents. I remember Noah used to do that clapping thing with Thibs' Bulls whenever their opponents started whining.
Hopefully Burks gets back to full health and this team is dangerous
Didn't think this would happen but I'm so glad it did.
was a huge for that team
I would be absolutely shocked if he is not on the Knicks
It might take 2 years at 30 million.
He is making 10 million now.
We need to draft a PG to be ready behind him.

his current deal is 2/15. Mid-level projects to be about $10 million this year. That might be the top of his market. Same with Burks. Where the luxury tax number ends up might have a big impact on free agency as well.

I don't disagree, but the Wizards turnaround in itself has been UFB.

I think he was clapping because, for all intents and purposes, that iced the game for sure. There was still over a minute left and another Tech meant we go up 12....no way they would come back from that.

Heat. Knicks lose the H2H tiebreaker against them.
Mavs are going to take the 6th anyways, so no hope for a higher draft pick. Way easier schedule than the Blazers.

Correction. Rooting for Mavs lol
The Heat seem to have taken a real step back from last year. Tatum can go off any night and Westbrook is playing amazing basketball right now. They both scare me more than Jimmy Butler right now.

Randle and Taj would need to guard Jokić.
I could see LA rest people against us because of how physical we play.
Jokic is going to score like 80 points and we're going to have to shoot 90% from 3 lol
if knicks 2-5, Hawks 4-2, Heat 4-2, Boston 6-1
I just want 1 more win on this road trip, now if they win tonight i am going to be greedy

I know this sounds crazy but I think we go 2-2 in the next 4.
Sets us up to close out 3 straight at home for the playoffs.
I think this team is too hungry and has a ton to prove.
It makes it dangerous vs. Anyone out there.
Gotta be a decade plus since we won there. Maybe more.
Lol fuck that. I'll be ecstatic with 2-2, 1-3 is what I'm expecting.

Looks like the 3 seed in the west will get the Lakers
4 seed gets Dallas.
Wonder if Clippers and Nuggets jockey for position to get Dallas or LA.
Bench will be huge in this game
They were up 20 in that game and the bench came in and gave away thr game
