Stapleton: Giants would not take Dickerson that early

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/3/2021 8:27 pm
Gettleman confirms what I reported on Friday before the second round began: Giants had zero concerns with Azeez Ojulari's knee and he was cleared by Ronnie Barnes and the team's medical team. @WFAN660

And as I’ve continued to report since Friday, that was not the case with Landon Dickerson and the Giants. He was not off their board completely, but they had a line due to the medicals. When he was taken by PHI was too early for NYG.
Interesting. Figured he was who they liked in round 2.

They said they had an OL they liked in round 2 that was taken before their pick. If it wasn’t Dickerson was it Jenkins. Those were the only two taken since Darrisaw in the first.

I think Aaron Banks was one
If I had to guess

They were high on Tevin Jenkins who went to Chicago at 39, which is perhaps why they traded out of 42 down to 50.
i agree it was Banks

Gettleman looked a little frustrated after the Olujari pick. My guess was he was second-guessing the move down becasue he liked Banks and thought he'd be there at 50.

Nobody knows why DG shook his head that night. For all we know, maybe he couldn’t believe Azeez was there which lead to him shaking his head. Idk. But I wouldn’t look too much into it.
Tevin was another guy I wanted.

In fact I would have “reached” for him. We will see how he develops.
There’s no way he’d take Banks over Ojulari

Is there?

That would seem a really poor trade. A really, really poor trade.
I love dickerson

But I think he's a bottom of the 2nd half of the second rd player with that injury history. I hope he plays well and the rest of the eagles suck. And when he plays us he sucks of course.
Dickerson with that injury history

not the most fleet of foot guy to begin with.

Plus, I feel like he is a little too tall to play center. Going to be tough to win the leverage battle.

And, he is likely maxed out. 24 year old rookie, coming out of the Alabama program.

I thought he was a 3rd round candidate at best.
...

even if Dickerson were healthy, I might have taken Ojulari anyway
At what point in round 2 did we trade back exactly?

Was it right after the Bears traded up for Teven Jenkins?
I think I would rather have Ojulari over any Day 2 OL

The kid was projected to be a first rounder and in normal draft years the top ER goes off the board before interior OL. This ain't a normal draft year and we got a legit ER prospect at pick 50. I am all for strengthening the OL, but sometimes you have to recognize when you are playing with house money and let it ride. Happy this kid is on the Giants.

In the Kay interview with Judge, coach specifically mentioned trade ups for guys ahead of them when being asked about OL.

This really makes me believe Jenkins was a strong consideration at 42. The Bears traded up from 52 to 39 to take Jenkins. Jenkins was a guy I mocked to Giants at 42.

I don’t think DG would ever admit that he wanted Dickerson...

That would only give the Eagles more satisfaction.
Surprise Pick For Me Was Elerson Smith in Round 4
LTIsTheGreatest : 5/4/2021 8:55 am : link
with still alot of good OLineman on the board.
Smith could be better than Ojulari 2 years out

Curiosity is gonna be seeing who has the bigger impact between Parsons, Paye & Toney.
I would have liked Banks or Eichenberg
jeff57 : 5/4/2021 3:23 pm : link
Had they stayed at 42. From what I’ve read, they liked Banks.
