Conforto and Alonso have really turned things around as of late. But the continued struggles of Lindor...he's too good of a player to have a month plus of poor at bats.
I think there will be more of these firings at seemingly strange times as the Cohen regime tries to work with the Wilpon/BVW holdovers and figures out that some of them are not on the same page with the new approach .
I don't how Chili Davis keeps getting hired. Look at the the previous team he was with and you will notice a disturbing trend that seems all too familiar with the 2021 Mets. Underperforming offense, featuring a collection of players that all have career low seasons.
Will move decisively to fix a broken aspect. Mets situational hitting has been shit since Opening Day last year. I support this move and gotta think Rojas is on notice now. Good stuff as far as confidence in the org doing this right.
They didn’t gut the staff in the off-season after ownership change and I get that - continuity can be a blessing. But these are not Cohen’s hires. When his front office f7nds what they inherited to be lacking, then moving fast is a great sign.
Hopefully the team takes off. Otherwise, Showalter or another crusty/competent manager will be in by June 19.

Perhaps there is truth to the rumors that it is someone else helping them out.
Mets were wretched with RISP all 2020. There was no sign of an approach of any sort. 2019 Mets were brutal first half. They h ad a torrid 6 weeks. But, overall, that team wasn’t great at efficiency in plating baserunners.
made notice that Lindor was pulling everything in BP. Said that's not the right approach when you're slumping. He made it seem so obvious even I was thinking "well why isn't Chili working with him on this?".
Chilli has been fired/allowed to leave by both BOS and CHI
and we know each of those regimes had/have ties into this one. Just the fact that leadership was steering the organization in that direction was a bad sign for Chilli's job prospects here unless the team performed.
I actually thought there were some improvements in the team's approach the last few years and the numbers were better, but a big part of that was Alonso and Dom becoming impact hitters. Guess we will see how the next guy goes but I don't consider this to be that big of a deal and the hitters are underperforming to an extreme extent.
wanted to re-hire Kevin Long but Long decided to go back to Washington. Sandy also wanted to bring back Pat Roessler (who left because of issues with Callaway), Roessler opted to stay with Long.

Right - and needless to say but Rojas didn't hire Davis, nor did anyone still remaining in the organization. Nobody would have given it a second thought had they moved on in the offseason. It is completely normal that a new regime and new manager would be allowed to make their own decisions on staff. They gave Davis a shot and it's hard to see a reason why that was worth continuing.
Josh Walker getting the opening day start for @BKCyclones, Yamamoto for @SyracuseMets (facing "ex-Met" Mike Montgomery, Megill going for @RumblePoniesBB (he could see Queens this season) and Joander Suarez your starter for @stluciemets #Mets
Megill is the real prospect of the group. Last we heard from Suarez he was mid-upper 80's. It's been a bit so maybe he's added to that but at the time it was pretty "meh" stuff.
How exactly does a hitting coach result in Lindor sucking at the plate all of a sudden?
I'd love to understand the theory behind coaching a player who has been playing the game his entire life, instinctively knowing how to hit.
wanted to hire Kevin Long, Long wanted 3 years, for whatever the reason they didn't want to give him that and it sounds like the players pushed for Davis so they opted to keep him.
Cortes is now an OF, which obviously means he's going to have to really hit to make the bigs. As expected the AA/AAA rosters are underwhelming prospect wise.
Familia was in the Mets system for 3 full seasons before Sandy got here, to give him credit for Familia is ridiculous. In 2009 he was being hyped up (along with Mejia) as the next big thing while in Savannah. 19 years old, 2.69 era... first 35 professional starts 5 homers allowed. He's 100% an Omar guy. Sandy doesn't deserve an iota of credit for that one, sorry.
you believe Peter Gammons, Sandy wasn't even completely aware of who Jacob DeGrom was (rehabbing TJ) and was willing to include him for Kelly Shoppach but was talked out of it.
“In May, 2012, the Red Sox were working on a deal with the Mets for catcher Kelly Shoppach. Ben Cherington asked Sandy Alderson for a soon-to-be 24-year-old righthanded pitcher in the Florida State League who had missed the 2011 season after surgery.
“The name? Jacob deGrom. Alderson seemed comfortable with the original idea, but checking with his minor league people caused him to tell Cherington he had second thoughts. So, finally, Boston received Pedro Beato.”
Obviously, the Red Sox wish Alderson hadn’t consulted his scouts before making that deal. deGrom, as mentioned above, earned NL Rookie of the Year honors last season, struck out the side in his impressive fashion in this year’s All-Star Game and has gone eight scoreless innings in four of his last nine starts."
quite possible Realmuto did in fact communicate he didn't want to be here but his hot start stings. .906 OPS. McCann has looked bad on both sides of the ball. Not sure what they can do about that, his defense was supposed to be "at worst" an upgrade but he's at -1 DRS (same as Wilson Ramos in 2020) and he's 48th in framing.
Narvaez (ended up not being non-tendered so I can't cry too much) 1.3 fWAR, 2nd in framing. Brewers actually got him for a minor leaguer Brodie dumped (Adam Hill).

Mets players expressed dismay over the firing of popular hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant Tom Slater today in a team meeting with acting GM Zack Scott, an “expected” reaction to Scott as players liked Davis very much and were dismayed they were fired 23 games in.

After saying how important upgrading the Mets farm was it seemed odd they’d take the just-hired farm director Kevin Howard and make him assistant hitting coach, which to some seems like a less vital role. Jeremy Barnes will now be in charge of the farm by himself.

Following the firing of 2 of Luis Rojas’ coaches, and with the team underachieving to this point after the 2020 disappointment it may seem like a target is on Rojas’ back. But Mets acting GM Zack Scott said by phone: “There are no plans to make a change. I want this to work.”

Rojas is a Fizdale. We need a Thibs.

Sandy did make awful
And unnecessary moves. But he was not supposed to be playing GM. He had to step up because of the Porter thing,
I think he will be fine as team president. Need a real GM going forward. Shame about Porter because I think
He would have been
Good.

Premature on Lindor at a minimum? Fair to say the same about McCann?

Can't wait for all the excuses as to why it's everyone's fault but Sandy Alderson why this team underperformed under his watch yet again.
Teflon Sandy.
Mets led majors with 270+ average.
Coincidence? I think not.
I dont' think you can coach remotely as a batting coach.
IMHO, I wish they kept Slater and see if it makes a differnece. (like last year).
no fucking way.
So infuriating to read shit like this, Sandy is literally responsible for every star on this team right now.
Be fucking patient and stop calling for a change every time there isn't immediate results, we are not the fucking Yankees.

Great point. The Yankees have won pennants and championships in most of our lifetimes.

DeGrom actually predates Sandy. He was drafted June 2010 (Omar era), Sandy was hired in October. Familia as well but he's not a "star".

Syndergaard pitched 2 innings and is expected to join an affiliate soon so he can begin getting stretched out.

They both developed under Sandy
