As good as I think we are as an optimist, are we good enough

Giantimistic : 5/4/2021 2:55 pm
I think we will have a 10 ten defense, potentially at top 5 defense.

I think we will be top 10 in special teams.

If Jones does well, and the line holds up, we have playmakers and a lot of potential.

So with full optimism in effect, are we good enough to beat the Chiefs, Tampa, Ravens, our division, ect . . .?

Did other teams make bigger jumps then us this offseason?

I think we win the division this year with above average performance from Jones, but I do not really know what to expect from other teams. The Giants improved in free agency and hopefully the draft, but will it be enough? Does Jones need to preform on a top 10 for us to compete in the playoffs.

So, in short I am excited about what the Giants have done and come become, but I do not really have a good feeling on how we line up with the rest of the league.
My opinion is that Jones will do well

but only if his wheels are functioning well..That he has to clean up his mistakes has always been a given, so not sure why people bother to debate it..

He’s got the tools, the confidence, the demeanor and the courage to succeed. With health on the support front, he has a nice complement of weapons..

Assuming he’s reasonably healthy, this needs to be the year he “leaps.” Otherwise, JJ may look elsewhere for his franchise guy.
We could be

I think the key is Barkley. Is he (still) the generational talent that he was a couple of years ago. In 2019, he clearly suffered from his injury all year but still opened up the offense for other players. Last year, we missed him completely. We've upgraded our receivers tremendously. Our line should be the best line that he has played behind despite not making improvements outside of growth since last year. Daniel Jones should mature. The key on offense is him and also how he is used.
Giants almost beat Tampa last year

that said, I don't expect them to beat a collection of talent like a Tampa or a KC yet. I'm worried about the division first.
I am not worried really about Tampa Bay

I think we would match up well with them.

If the Chiefs offensive line improves and has depth, they are going to be real tough to beat. Although, I will always love Spags, I think their defense is still suspect.

The Patriots will be interesting to watch this year with all the investments they made.
Like DG said let’s win our division first

I think we have as much (or more?) talent as any of the other division teams. We beat all of them last year. We had a better offseason than any of them. Except Dallas we all have QB questions and Dallas has plenty of other questions. It isn’t time yet to talk about KC or Tampa. A winning season, an NFCE title or a wild card berth. That would be a good start.
We almost beat Tampa last

year. In my opinion any team can win any season. Did we think the Giants would win in 2007 or 2011?
We'll go

How the offensive line and Jones go. If they all play at least "average" paired with our defense we'll have a very good shot at the division. Worse than that we'll be picking high again, better than that we may even win a game or 2 in the playoffs.
Love our defense

Not completely sold on offense but nyg have taken strides there. Offense has to prove itself. We all know that.

Defense is stacked. It’s especially stacked in the secondary. Secondary has never been this stacked in my view. And don’t tell me they need to do it. They did it last year. They’ll do it again and more in 21. You’ve got two studs at 3-4 and plenty of legit depth. Linebackers are fine if a bit unspectacular but at least they’ve got numbers there. As long as we have pros who know their role the rest of the D will carry the day.

Add in the 3 defensive draft picks... I’ve been fooled before but I’m all in on this defense. I think it’s going to be near the top this coming season. All I wanted was for nyg to devote resources to the defense this offseason and not rest on any laurels and I think they have clearly done so. They added weapons to the offense and more talent to the D. Let’s see it. Can’t wait for training camp.
Everything always looks great

right after the draft, but it's been 10 years since the euphoria was justified. I'm hoping for a nice improvement this year. It's not just for Jones that this is a prove-it year. There is not going to be a SB appearance in Feb '22. But hopefully, there will be indications that this team can play with, and beat, the big boys on any given Sunday. Can we beat teams with winning records, will the close games go in our direction?
I don’t think so,
darren in pdx : 5/4/2021 11:57 pm : link
not yet, but I expect them to be in contention for a wild card spot at worst.
So tired of the Dallas expectation

Dak is back so it is assumed they win the division. The Cowboys have the occasional year where they get a BYE and fizzle out, but mostly the last 15 years has been hyped expectations and an enormous let down season even when healthy. The Giants are more than good enough to win the division and win it by winning 10 or 11 games.
I am going to bet $$$ (literally) the Giants win the NFC East

There is too much potential everywhere for me not to believe this team takes a major step forward and wins this division.

However, I think we are a superb OL and pass rusher away from being able to compete for four quarters with the better teams.

Winning the SB isn't always about being the most talented but it is about being the healthiest & hottest during the stretch run; and, having a matchup advantage that overwhelms the other team. Examples are our pass rush in 2007 and 2011 as well as Tampa's last year.

This team will win the division and may even win a playoff game...but their run looks to be designed for 2022.

The giants were not good last year, even in a bad division.

There is much to be hopeful with the giants:

- having additional time for young offensive line players to develop and gel
- free agent acquisitions and draft picks including some skill players, which was this teams biggest weakness
- the return of Barkley

This coming year will be dependent primarily on Jones taking that next step. If he does, the Giants improve and they make a run on the Super Bowl in a year or two.

If he doesn’t then back to the qb drawing board.
