Buck got another chance to manage the Yankees.

I'm so shocked that you are one of the Buck Showalter cultists! Never would have guessed.

In 20 years as a major league manager, Buck Showalter has guided teams to five playoff appearances, one postseason series win, and precisely zero World Series appearances. The myth that he's some ace manager is laughable.

Greg, I’m with you. I don’t get it.

Earl Weaver was the greatest manager of my lifetime. Billy without the off field baggage and decades ahead of his time. He won 4 pennants and 1 WS in 17 years.

Joe Torre was one of the worst managers of my lifetime. He managed the Mets Braves and Cardinals for 14 years before the Yankees. He had a below .500 record and didn't win a single playoff game. With the Yankees he made the playoffs every year for 12 straight years and went to 6 WS and won 4. Must have been the water in NY or maybe the HOF and all star players and big payroll?

Give me Buck over Boone and Cashman all day every day.
He’s out!

Anyone else tired of this Star Wars forced stuff. It would be cool to mention it for a second but they look like clowns dressed in costumes. Idk it’s just really annoying and seems like Disney is forcing them to jam it down the throat.

He is too tall and the distance too far.

He needs someone behind him so they don't pitch around him.

Needs to go with it like he did when he first came up. Like what Stanton just did.

we need
RasputinPrime : 5/4/2021 10:01 pm : link
a lefty in this lineup that can spray the ball. Brantley would have been perfect. If Frazier doesn't find it soon i'd be down for them making a play for someone who can fill that spot. Odor, Hicks, Gardy aren't going to help protect Judge, Stanton and Voit.

I also think getting a lefty catcher like Narvaez would be a solid move.

there were 40,000 fans jeering the Astros!
The 'bleacher creatures' had some great signs out there.
That was a bizarre play at the plate, three runs scored
on a weak groundball. Hope Odor is okay, he has helped them
with some key hits. German not at his best, but didn't
cough up the lead, solo homers won't kill you.

If Joe Torre was one of the worst managers in your lifetime, your posts make much more sense.

Like almost all takes by you - it is bereft of sports acumen.

RE: German - that would have been a decent start from anybody's #5 starter. German has talent. He seems to lose focus or his control or both. I would have thought he would be better, but I guess inconsistency is why some pitchers are #4s or #5. With this staff - Cole and Kluber - he can learn how to pitch. I still think German can be a #3 quality pitcher.
Joe Torre was a great manager for the Yankees
UConn4523 : 5/5/2021 9:34 am : link
don't care about his time prior. He managed in an era where players started becoming larger than life, and that was before social media (even the internet in part) was part of our culture. I don't think he was some tactical genius, but he was a leader and provided the perfect balance between the players, ownership (which was overbearing), and the media (also overbearing).

Sometimes I really scratch my head about what I read on this site.

.

I really don't consider German a #5 starter, he has better stuff than Taillon or Monty. I don't think it's about focus
with him, he just throws too many good strikes for the hitters, meaning missing location in the zone. He is always going to let up his share of gopher balls, that's been his history. He had two really good starts prior to last night.
At least, he didn't cough up the lead,as I mentioned above.
Not Yankee related..

but MLB's best umpire was on fire last night in the Royals game!!

“Our goal was to get the play right, and that’s exactly what we did."

- Umpire Angel Hernandez after awarding the Royals 4 outs in the 3rd inning last night.
