This shows just how much value the Giants got with only 6 picks this year, and doesn’t account for the future picks added next year.

Fun exercise- took my top 150 players & assigned point values. My number 1 player is worth 150 points. My 150th player is worth 1 point.

This was a home run draft for the Giants IMO. I feel good about this team going forward outside of whether DJ is the answer long term, but we'll find out this fall. And if not, we got capital to take his successor next spring.

Exactly. There’s so much debate on Jones, but it’s not a big deal either way. The Giants aren’t married to him and it’s more than reasonable to give him a third year with a slew of weapons. If he doesn’t pan out, it’s easy to move on. No big deal.
and his second chart with the points per selection is what’s more interesting since it evens out the teams with lots of later picks. When you factor in the trade the value is overwhelming.

This is true. I just hate committing all of 2021 to an experiment. There should at least be a viable alternative in the building.
But yeah I agree. The acquisition of that first rounder next year was really good.
Didn’t realize someone had Brightwell that high. Personally I would have gambled on him being UDFA, but I guess someone could like him if they feel that his issues are correctable with experience. If he is only a special teamer he needs to be an ace at to justify drafting him.
pro bowl level WB ready to take over at the first incompletion by Jones .
Umm sorry Mr Smarty Pants, team building doesn’t work that way. Nor does perpetually turning over the QB position to stay on the rookie contract.

Do you realize how dumb this sounds?
I think its fair point, if the rest of the team looks great but Jones stinks won't we all wish the Giants had better talent in the QB room behind him? Easier said than done of course.

Its dumb to have a capable backup who can
A) push the starter (competition is nlt a bad thing)
B) mitigate games lost to injury (its happened each of the past 2 seasons, tough as Jones is)
C) not drive the car into the ditch should, worst case scenario, Jones faulters and leaves an otherwise talented and capable roster holding the bag
Everyone wants Jones to succeed. Its the most direct route to relevancy and quality football. But having a contingency plan when your young and overhauled roster would benefit from meaningful football, maybe even a playoff appearance, isnt dumb.
When a team goes with BPA and sticks to it. I’m not saying all of these guys are going to be all pro... but 1 probowl maybe 2 from this draft will not surprise me.
his cross cutting style kind of reminds me of bradshaw a little bit but Bradshaw's highlights from Marshall were insane. Brightwell looks more like the slowed down version of Bradshaw.
QB for Appalachian State University is still an UDFA he would be a good pick up to provide competition in camp and possibly a backup quarterback once the season starts.
Interesting, other analysts like WalterFootball did not have a ranking for Brightwell, but this is their ranking on Rodarius Williams with comment:
Pick 201 "Rodarius Williams, CB, Oklahoma State - A+ Grade I'm shocked Rodarius Williams lasted this long. I had him in the third round of my mock draft, thanks to a great 2020 season. This is a great value pick, and Williams could potentially fill a position of need

You think an undrafted QB from Appalachian St., is going to be better than Glennon this year? These same fans expect every draft pick to be the best he will ever be the moment he steps into the training facility. It takes time. Man, sometimes I just can't believe how some people think.
And, sorry folks, but with the salary cap, the days of having Hostetler sitting behind Simms are over.
Was clear intention to look at a multi-year approach to roster building and how they paired it with a multi-year approach to FA.
There are so many good things about this draft. For a team that didn't outright tank and to have 10 draft picks in a projected very strong draft and 5 top 100 picks is really something else. say it with me 5 top 100 picks in 22.
The question I have outstanding, but have confidence in.

I don't think a UDFA will beat out Glennon, but I would like to see some competition for 2nd and 3rd QB spot as Jones has never made it through a full season healthy
Sure, it's helped by not having a 7th round pick (which would have dragged down the mean), but it's helped even more by having executed a truly fantastic draft.
It's now on Judge and company to develop these kids, but we did add a lot of talent last week.

The points per pick metric actually hurts teams with a lot of later picks. Those later picks all carry a lower numerator value but an equal denominator value. They drag down the mean.
If only we all just dropped to our knees for every single thing the Giants do, maybe you'd be happier.
What's funny is my one post on this thread generated five posts whining about my post.
So who is doing the hijacking?
To steal your line about another poster, if the Giants traded a draft pick for a blanket infected with small pox, Ryan would find a way to defend the move.

Solid.
Giants place 2nd overall based on Daniel Jeremiah's rubric

Gary Brightwell: ranked 138, picked 196
Elerson Smith: ranked 73, picked 116
Aaron Robinson: ranked 55, picked 71
Azeez Ojulari: ranked 30, picked 50
Kadarius Toney: ranked 28, picked 20
Rodarius Williams not ranked in top 150
I do think the Giants did fairly well, btw. Not so much the players, but the way the draft was managed...
